5 Pre-Installation Information Pre-Installation Information Before you begin the installation of this version of the winsight Analytics Desktop, it is crucial that you read the entire Deltek winsight Analytics Desktop 8.1 Installation Guide. Compatibility Matrix The tables below display the supported and compatible technologies used to deploy winsight Analytics Desktop. Supported versions are the currently actively tested versions of technologies used to deploy winsight Analytics Desktop. These technologies are not embedded or directly supported by Deltek. Changes to these technologies occur at the discretion of the individual technology vendors. Compatible versions are the recent previously supported and tested technologies used to deploy winsight Analytics Desktop. These are not actively being tested but are believed to be compatible with winsight Analytics Desktop. Deltek does not recommend these technologies for new deployments but will make its best effort to answer questions concerning these technologies. These technologies may not be available for troubleshooting at Deltek. For a full explanation of compatible versus supported versions, see the Deltek Product Support Compatibility Matrix document that you can download from the Deltek Customer Care Connect site. 8 New Features New Features This section includes summaries of the new features included for this release. EPM Security Model for winsight Analytics winsight Analytics now shares the same role-based security model as other Deltek PPM products like Cobra, PM Compass, and Open Plan. As well as providing much finer control over user access to data within the winsight Analytics modules, the security data (users, groups and roles) can be shared with those other products when installed in the same database. The security data is managed using a dedicated tool called EPM Security Administrator (EPM SA) that is installed with winsight Analytics Administrator. System administrators can use the EPM SA tool to enable security in winsight Analytics. To enable security, you must set the authentication mode to either Basic or Windows. For more detailed information regarding the new security system, see the Deltek winsight Analytics Desktop and winsight Analytics Administrator Online Help. winsight Analytics Application winsight Analytics Application Login Dialog Box If the authentication mode is set to Basic in EPM SA, a login dialog box displays when you launch certain winsight Analytics applications. These winsight Applications include winsight Analytics Administrator, winsight Analytics Desktop, winsight Analytics Briefing Wizard, winsight Analytics C/S Glue Viewer, and winsight Analytics WSQuery. The dialog box name varies, depending on the application you access. For winsight Analytics Briefing Wizard, however, it displays the winsight Analytics Desktop Login dialog box. It requires you to enter your user ID and password, and select a data source from the drop-down list before you can access the application. The User ID field always defaults to the ID you used previously to log on to the application successfully. The Data Source drop-down list only contains data sources that have been created for winsight Analytics. For first time installation, the default data source is Sample. When you log on again, the value of this field defaults to the last one used. If you click OK after you enter or select the required values, the winsight Analytics application validates the user ID and password against the selected database. If any of the credentials are incorrect, the application displays an error message and returns you to the login dialog box. The application automatically closes after three consecutive unsuccessful logins. The maximum login retries (3) is set in EPM SA by your Release Notes 5

9 New Features administrator. When it closes because you reach the maximum login retries, you can launch the application again and enter the valid credentials. If you click Cancel, the application closes. If the authentication mode for the last database used is set to Windows or security is turned off in EPM SA, the login dialog box does not display. User Security Support on Import and Restore of Contracts Importing and restoring an.xml file supports the user security defined in the.xml file and applies that security to the contract in the winsight Analytics database. When importing a contract, you have the option to import security data in the XML file generated from Cobra. You can only perform the import action if you have rights to the Import File option in EPM SA. When restoring a contract that does not exist yet, you must have access to the Contracts» Contract Setup» New option in EPM SA. When restoring a contract that already exists, you must have at least Write access rights to the existing contract in the database as well as access to the Contracts» Contract Setup» Delete option in EPM SA. User Security Support on Export and Backup of Contracts The export and backup operations support exporting user security data to the export or backup file. The said security information is then applied to the contract when the file is imported or restored into the winsight Analytics database. You can export one or more contracts if you have at least Read access to the selected contracts, and have access to the Export File option in EPM SA. In addition, the Export File dialog box also displays only those contracts to which you have access. You can back up one or more contracts if you have at least Read access to the selected contracts, and have access to the Backup option in EPM SA. In addition, the Backup Contract(s) dialog box displays only those contracts to which you have access. For more detailed information regarding the security support on export and backup of contracts, see the Deltek winsight Analytics Desktop and winsight Analytics Administrator Online Help. winsight Backup Tool for Version to winsight Analytics now features a backup tool that allows you to easily create a winsight backup of all projects in an Access database formatted for an earlier version of winsight (version to v8.0.1). When the backup process is complete, a single.wsa file is created and can be easily restored into the winsight Analytics version 8.1. This BackupMDB.exe tool is installed when you install winsight Analytics Administrator 8.1 or winsight Analytics Desktop 8.1. Release Notes 6

10 New Features If you have recently used or accessed the tool, a shortcut (Deltek winsight Analytics BackupMDB) displays on the Start menu. By default, the backup file is saved as <database name>.wsa in the C:\Users\<User Name>\My Documents. Support Transfer of EVAS Metrics from Acumen Importing and Restoring Metrics winsight Analytics now supports the import and restore of EVAS metrics from Acumen, allowing you to perform further analysis and relate metric results to other data in winsight Analytics. You can import control account data form Acumen or Cobra using the Deltek Cost Data Exchange format (.DCDE) file. The file you import directly from Cobra contains control account, work package and element of cost details. If the.dcde file is produced from Acumen, in addition to the above information, tasks, metric descriptions, and metric results of testing project information against these metrics are included. Control Account Data and Metrics Options The following options have been added to the Import Options dialog box: Control Account Data Selecting this option imports or restores control account information, including the Control Account and Work Package table as well as resource assignment values rolled up to the EOC level from Acumen or Cobra. Metrics Selecting this option imports or restores metric descriptive information and the results of testing project information against these metrics. This includes the IDs for the data elements such as control account, work package and task IDs that contribute to project tests from Acumen. Release Notes 7

11 New Features To display the Import Options dialog box, click Utilities» Import File in winsight Analytics Administrator or click File» Utilities» Import File (but make sure no data set is opened) in winsight Analytics Desktop and then click Options. Exporting and Backing Up of Metrics winsight Analytics now includes the new DCMA metrics from Acumen in the exported or backup file. Control Account Data and Metrics Options The following options have been added to the XML Export Options dialog box: Control Account Data Selecting this option exports or backs up control account information, including the Control Account and Work Package table as well as resource assignment values rolled up to the EOC level from Acumen or Cobra. Metrics Selecting this option exports or backs up metric data (which may only be transferred if there are updated details or added/removed metric), metric results, and list of IDs for the data elements (such as CA, WP, and Task) that contribute to the metric results from Acumen. 12 New Features To display the XML Export Options dialog box, click Utilities» Export File in winsight Analytics Administrator or click File» Utilities» Export File (but make sure no data set is opened) in winsight Analytics Desktop and then click Options. If you select any version prior to 8.1 in the Compatibility field, these two new options are disabled. Release Notes 9

13 New Features Data Tool Adding and updating data source information are now done in a separate application called Data Tool, which is installed when you install the winsight Analytics Administrator 8.1 or winsight Analytics Desktop 8.1. The data sources that you add in this tool display in the Data Sources drop-down list of the winsight Analytics application login dialog box. If you are a member of the SYSADMIN group, you can also add or edit data sources in EPM SA. To do this, on the EPM SA menu bar, click Tools» Change data source. Data Sources Dialog Box The Data Sources dialog box has replaced the Select Data Sources dialog box. It allows you to add, edit, and delete a data source connection. Clicking the Add button displays the Data Link Properties dialog box, allowing you to configure and add the data source to the list of available data sources. Clicking the Edit button displays the new Edit Data Source dialog box. Name This field displays the name of the selected data source. Data sources are frequently referred to by their Data Source Names (DSNs). Database Name (Schema) - This field is optional and typically used only with Oracle. This field, however, is required if the Oracle Account used has access to more than one schema in the Oracle database. Release Notes 10

14 New Features Database is Unicode - Select this option only if the database is in Unicode. Under most circumstances, this option is used only for Microsoft Access databases. A Unicode database uses a UTF-8 character set as the database character set. Data Link Properties - Click this button to display the Windows Data Link Properties dialog box, which you can use to specify how to link to the server where the database is stored. Compact Database Click this button to compact a database, allowing you to defrag the database file, recover disk space previously used by deleted records, and improve performance. You should compact your database after deleting a user-defined field. You can access this tool by clicking Start» All Programs» Deltek winsight Analytics» Deltek winsight Analytics Data Tool, which displays the Data Sources dialog box. You can also access this dialog box from EPM SA by selecting a product in the Products folder and clicking Tools» Change Data Source. 15 Enhancements Enhancements This section includes summaries of the enhancements made to existing features in this release. User Interface Changes Access Control Option The User (Security) Data option has been renamed to Access Control both on the Import Options and XML Export Options dialog boxes. In addition, this option is now selected by default the first time you perform the import or export process. winsight Analytics, however, retains the setting from the last import or export. For example, if you do not select Access Control and proceed with the import, it will still not be selected the next time you open the Import Options dialog box. Enhanced Look and Feel The winsight Analytics product icon and color scheme have been updated to bring them into line with the rest of the Deltek PPM (Project Portfolio Management) suite. 16 Enhancements winsight Analytics Desktop splash screen: Updated About Dialog Box The About dialog box of winsight Analytics Administrator, winsight Analytics Desktop, and C/S Glue Viewer has been updated to include additional details including the version, data source, total number of users currently logged on to the selected data source, and the logged-on user ID. 17 Enhancements Supported File Types In this release, winsight Analytics Desktop only allows you to link or upload external files that match its supported file types using the Linked File dialog box. The supported file types are as follows: doc/docx ppt/pptx mpp/mpx xls/xlsx txt dat csv It does not allow you to upload compressed archives, such as ZIP files. If you try to upload such or manually enter a file that does not comply with the allowed extensions, an error message displays. The previous version allowed you to upload any file and would execute it as soon as you clicked the Open button. To display the Linked File dialog box, click Input» Linked File on the menu bar or click the Standard toolbar. on Backup Improvements Ability to Limit Periods and Time-Phase Data Included in Backing Up a Contract winsight Analytics is now capable of limiting the number of periods and timephased data included in backing up a contract. It provides you with two additional options on the Backup Contracts dialog box: Only Backup Last X Periods This option allows you to select certain number of periods that you want to back up. You can select from 1 through 50, or all available periods. Only Backup Timephased Data For Most Recent Period This option allows you to back up the time-phased future period and past period data only for the most recent period. Release Notes 14

18 Enhancements For example, if you select ALL in the Only Backup Last X Periods drop-down list and also select the Only Backup Timephased Data For Most Recent Period option, winsight Analytics backs up all periods but only backs up the Future Period and Past Period data for the most recent period. Recalculate Past Period Data for All Structures and Units Recalculating past period data now works on any selected structures and units. A new button called Past Period Options has been added to the Recalculate Options dialog box. Clicking the button displays the Past Period Options dialog box, which allows you to select the structures and units for which you want to recalculate past period data. You can select multiple structures and units. To display the Recalculate Options dialog box, click Utilities» Recalculate in winsight Analytics Administrator or click File» Utilities» Recalculate (but make sure no data set is opened) in winsight Analytics Desktop. 19 Enhancements Installation and Upgrade Changes to WSDATA.ini Renaming to datasources.dat The WSDATA.ini file, which contains data source definition information, has been renamed to datasources.dat. By default, it is saved in C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics\. Synching Changes between WSDATA.ini and datasources.dat To continue support for older versions of Cobra, which rely on WSDATA.ini to determine which data sources are used by winsight Analytics, the data tool updates the list of data source names in the.ini file to keep it in synch with datasources.dat. Any existing data sources in WSDATA.ini with the prefix WE: are updated to remove WE: and transferred to datasources.dat during the upgrade process. The data source conversion process can be rerun after upgrading by running the ConvertWSDATA tool. Any data sources added through the data tool are also added as headers in WSDATA.ini upon clicking OK on the Data Sources dialog box. Any data sources deleted from data tool are also deleted from WSDATA.ini, along with any available connection parameters. When editing an existing data source through the data tool, only the connection details in datasources.dat are updated. Converting WSDATA.ini into datasources.dat When you install winsight Analytics Administrator, the ConvertWSDATA.exe tool is also installed in the C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics\bin folder. The tool automatically converts your existing WSDATA.ini into the new datasources.dat. When you upgrade your winsight Analytics installation (for example, from to 8.1), running the installer also runs the conversion tool. After the conversion process, the data source [WE:Sample] in the.ini file becomes [Sample] in the.dat file. After installing winsight Analytics Administrator 8.1, you can still run ConvertWSDATA.exe manually. Shared Data Sources winsight Analytics now supports sharing the data sources used to access winsight Analytics data by specifying the location of the datasources.dat file (which contains the connection details) in config.dat. If you use other Deltek products (such as Cobra and Open Plan) and store all of your data in a single database, you can create a single list of database connections in one shared datasources.dat file. The config.dat file must reside in the winsight Analytics folder, but the shared datasources.dat can be placed in a network shared folder and accessed by all users. This allows all users to easily connect to the databases configured by their system administrator. To specify the location of the shared datasources.dat, edit the config.dat file, which is installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics by default. 20 Enhancements Create and Upgrade Scripts Updated Script Names The winsight Analytics database scripts now uses the following naming conventions: The create scripts contain create statements for tables, data, or procedures, and consist of one to three scripts, depending on availability. New Naming Convention Example <product>_tables_<database>.sql WST_Tables_SqlServer.sql WST_Tables_Oracle.sql <product>_data_<database>.sql WST_Data_SQLServer.sql WST_Data_Oracle.sql <product>_procedures_<database>.sql WA_Procedures_SqlServer.sql WA_Procedures_Oracle.sql The upgrade scripts perform all necessary upgrades of tables, data, or store procedures in a single file. New Naming Convention Example <product><version>_upgrade_<database>.sql WA81_Upgrade_SqlServer.sql WA81_Upgrade_Oracle.sql All existing scripts have been renamed to conform to the new convention. By default, these scripts are saved in their respective folders found in C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics\data. Running All Create Scripts The winsight Analytics installer provides batch files to assist with the creation of a new winsight database. The batch files are saved in the C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics\data\ folder and are database-specific. Run the script for the database type (SQL Server or Oracle) that you are using. If you are using a Microsoft SQL database, run the RunAllCreateScripts_SQLServer.bat from the Windows Command Line to run the following winsight create scripts to create a database: WST_Tables_SqlServer.sql WST_Data_SQLServer.sql WA_Tables_SqlServer.sql WA_Data_SqlServer.sql WA_Procedures_SqlServer.sql Release Notes 17

21 Enhancements If you are using an Oracle database, run the RunAllCreateScripts_Oracle.bat script from the Windows Command Line to run all the following winsight create scripts to create an Oracle database: WST_Tables_Oracle.sql WST_Oracle_CI_Indexes.sql WST_Data_Oracle.sql WA_Tables_Oracle.sql WA_Data_Oracle.sql WA_Procedures_Oracle.sql If you choose to run the.bat file, the WST_Oracle_CI_Indexes.sql script is run automatically. This script creates CI and regular indexes for the WST tables in winsight Analytics. You can also create the winsight Analytics database by running the scripts individually (in the order they are listed) during the installation process. For more information, see the Deltek winsight Analytics Desktop 8.1 Installation Guide. Support for Unicode The create scripts are now in Unicode by default. This universal encoding standard allows winsight Analytics to interpret all characters or codes of all languages. If you create new winsight Analytics databases using the create scripts, these databases will have Unicode columns. If you upgrade existing databases, however, they will still use non- Unicode columns because the previous winsight Analytics version only supported non-unicode. Deltek recommends that you do not turn off Unicode in the create scripts before running them. Identifying and Renaming User and Group Names Exceeding Character Limit When you run the upgrade script for Oracle (using SQL Plus or the equivalent) or MS SQL (using Query Analyzer or the equivalent), it identifies and reports any user and group names that exceed the supported maximum length of 20 characters. If there are names that go beyond the specified limit, the upgrade script fails and displays a message. For the upgrade process to continue, you need to copy the RENAME lines in the message and paste the copied lines into the rename script. You then need to manually replace the NEWUSERNAME, NEWDOMAINUSERNAME, and NEWGROUPNAME values in the rename script. When all names follow the defined character limit and are converted into the updated winsight Analytics table, the upgrade process can continue. 22 Enhancements After you successfully run the rename script (which contains the renamed user and group names), you need to run the upgrade scripts again. For Oracle, the upgrade and rename scripts are WA81_Upgrade_Oracle.sql and WA81_Rename_Oracle.sql, respectively. For MS SQL, the upgrade and rename scripts are WA81_Upgrade_SqlServer.sql and WA81_Rename_SqlServer.sql. Full Support for Oracle Provider for OLE DB winsight Analytics now uses Oracle Provider for OLE DB (OraOLEDB.Oracle.1) to connect to an Oracle database. In the previous release, it supported Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle (MSDAORA.DLL). Updated Data Type Part of this change is the conversion of the LONG data type into CLOB (or Character Large Object) data type, which the Oracle Provider for OLE DB supports. CLOBS allow you to store and manipulate large blocks of unstructured data and provide efficient access to the data. In addition, Oracle recommends that you use CLOBs over LONG data types. The conversion happens when you run the WA81_Upgrade_Oracle.sql upgrade script during the upgrade installation. winsight Analytics uses this data type for long element descriptions in narratives. For more information, see the Converting an Oracle Database section of the Deltek winsight Analytics Desktop 8.1 Installation Guide. Ability to Make Backup Copies of Existing MDB Files When performing an upgrade installation, winsight Analytics now moves any existing.mdb files it finds in the installation folder that will be replaced by the installation or upgrade (for example, Sample.MDB and Blank.MDB) to the Backup folder, which has a default location of C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics. It then installs the new.mdb files into their respective installation folders, for example, blank81.mdb is in C:\Program Files (x86)\deltek\winsight Analytics\data\Access by default.
