2 Section 1: HOMEPAGE This is the main landing page for Wiley InterScience, accessed at Persistent navigation links ensure that essential information about the site is never far away: About Us provides more information on products, licensing Demo gives a quick overview of all products and features Contact Us has all customer service and technical support addresses Help offers detailed guidance on specific products and services Login box Registered users can access their saved titles, articles, queries and alerts in My Profile by logging on with their username and password in this box. Browse by Subject Area for publication lists organized under subject headings. Browse by Product Type for products across a range of subject areas. New products and announcements from Wiley InterScience appear in this column. Watch for new products, functionality and business updates. A Persistent Search Box provides powerful search capability from any page on the site. Links to services for Librarians, including the customer administration area, and information for authors with submission guidelines for Wiley books and journals. All Content - Searches across all Wiley InterScience journal articles, OnlineBook chapters, reference work articles, databases, entries and Current Protocols content. Publication Title - Finds a specific Wiley InterScience publication quickly.

3 Section 2: USER REGISTRATION AND LOGIN Registration is easy! Simply click the Register Now link on the login box on the homepage. DID YOU KNOW... Individual registration on Wiley InterScience is not mandatory to access institutionally licensed content in most cases. But there are many Benefits of Registration, including personalization features, alerting services and free access to sample journal issues. You must also be registered to take advantage of the Pay-Per-View service. Set Username and Password You will be taken to the New User Registration page, where you'll be asked to select a user-name, provide your address and select and confirm a password. Personal Profile You will also need to provide some basic information about yourself: your name, address, country, and area of interest. This information is never shared with any third party. Terms of Use To complete the registration you will also need to read and agree to the Wiley InterScience Terms of Use. You can read the Terms of Use by clicking on the link provided. If you would like to receive updates about new products and functionality provided by Wiley InterScience, check the box provided. After you have registered, you will need to log in when you return to the site. A Login Box with username and password inputs for log in appears at the top right corner of the homepage. Until you are logged in, a link to this box will appear at the top of every page. Remember Me: Choosing this option stores your username and password on your computer as a cookie. Note: If you use a shared or public access machine do not select this option, or other users will be able to view your account information. ATHENS USERS: If you are affiliated with an ATHENS Login partner (such as the NESLI consortium in the UK) you can log in to Wiley InterScience via your ATHENS account. 4 Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.1 Navigation Bar DID YOU KNOW... Every registered user of Wiley InterScience has their own personalized Navigation Bar and My Profile area. These are automatically created when you register and become available for your use every time you log in. Once you are logged in, you will notice some changes to the homepage: You will see your Personal Navigation Bar along the top of the screen... and, instead of the login box, you ll see a summary of the number of products that Wiley InterScience currently has online. Your Personal Navigation Bar allows you to link to the titles, articles and searches you use most frequently via interactive pull-down menus TIP: To manage your Saved Titles, Articles or Searches, you can use the Manage links in the pull-down menus or go to My Profile. The menus will display your 7 most recently saved items under: Saved Titles Saved Articles Saved Search Queries The My Profile area has these pages linked from its navigation bar: Subscriptions - see a list of all the content you have access to via your institutional license, sample copies or Pay-Per-View Account Information - view and edit your account details Order History - keep track of your Pay-Per-View orders Saved Titles - manage saved titles and Contents Alerts Saved Articles - view and edit your saved articles Saved Searches- view and run your Saved Searches and manage your Saved Search Alerts Alert Preferences - edit your alert preferences, such as the address and preferred format (text or HTML)

5 Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.2 Subscriptions / Account Information When you enter My Profile, you will land on the Subscriptions page. From there, you can see what subscriptions personal, institutional, member, or trial are currently available to you based on your IP address and login status.* Link to your account information to edit your login and personal information Find out more about Roaming Access to view institutional subscriptions from home or while travelling. View lists of the content you have access to via: Sample Copies - online sample issues available free for most journals My Subscriptions - personal online subscriptions offered for select journals Subscriptions Provided by - Institutional, member, or trial subscriptions available to you. Click View All to see the specific titles included in that subscription. * NOTE: Most personal, member, and trial subscriptions require that you log in to access full-text. You can register and link these subscriptions under a single, personal login. Most institutional subscriptions do not require a login to access full-text content; access rights are determined by your IP address. For access to these from outside the institution's IP range, you can sing up for Roaming Access (for EAL customers only). The Account Information section has links to: Edit Your Login Information - where you can change your password. Edit Personal Information - to update your name and address. You can also input phone and fax numbers, if you choose. This information is used for Wiley InterScience records only and never shared with any third party. Note that the address shown here is the same as kept under your Alert Preferences. You can modify it in either location.

6 Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.3 Remote and Roaming Access You can gain Remote Access to full-text content for institutional subscriptions (e.g., university, corporation, consortium, etc.), which is usually controlled by IP address. The system checks if the IP of your current computer is within the range specified by the subscribing institution and you are automatically authenticated. However, if your institutional holds an Enhanced Access License (EAL) with Wiley InterScience, you can access content outside your institution's network by activating Roaming Access. How to Activate Roaming Access 1. You must be a Wiley InterScience Registered User with a valid username and password. (If not, complete the online registration form.) 2. Access the site from within your institution's IP range. (e.g. from a computer in your university library, computer lab or office) 3. Login and go to the My Profile area, and enter the Subscriptions page. On the right side column, click the "Activate Roaming Access" icon. 4. This brings you to a page called License Sources. Near the bottom of the page is a link to Activate Roaming Access. Click this to enable access for 90 days. To continue 3.2 access Saved beyond Items that, follow the same procedure every 90 days to Refresh your access. Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.4 Order History This page provides a complete record of any Pay-Per-View or ArticleSelect articles you have ordered, including order numbers for your reference and links to the article. See the date and time when the article was ordered so you'll know exactly when its 24-hour access period will end plus a status indicator immediately tells you if the article is currently available or has expired.

7 Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.5 Saved Items (Titles, Articles, Searches) The My Profile area allows you to manage your lists of Saved Titles, Saved Articles, and Saved Searches. It also enables you to request a Tables of Contents alert for new journal issues, and alerts based on your Saved Search queries so that you'll be notified as soon as an article matching your search criteria is published. Saved Titles This function allows you to construct a preferred list of Wiley InterScience journals, Reference Works, OnlineBooks, and Databases with links directly to the title. You may also choose to receive an alert with the table of contents for any specified Wiley InterScience journal as soon as the new issue is available online. TIP: To add titles, click the Save Title to My Profile link on any product page on Wiley InterScience. To set a TOC alert, click Set Alert on any journal page. To have a saved journal s Table of Contents sent to your upon publication, click + Activate Alert. If you are currently receiving a journal's TOC via no longer wish to, click - Stop Alert. (Note that these alerts are for journals only.) Saved Articles The Saved Articles function lets you "bookmark" links for specific articles. You can save links to: Journal articles OnlineBook Chapters The Saved As: item shows the article's short title as used in the pull-down menu on your personal navigation bar. TIP: To add articles, click the Save Article to My Profile on a journal abstract page. For OnlineBook chapters, the link is called: Save Summary to My Profile

8 Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.5 Saved Items (Titles, Articles, Searches - continued) Saved Searches This page allows you to retrieve and run detailed search queries that you have saved. It's a useful way to check if any new content is available on a highly specialized topic of interest to you. You can also set an alert so that you are notified as soon as any articles are published on Wiley InterScience that match your search criteria. TIP: To save a query, simply run a search on Wiley InterScience, then click Save Search on the results page. Suggestion: Use a Saved Search with alert to keep track of publications by specific authors or institutions by saving an Advanced Search on the author names. To have a saved search generate automatic alerts, click + Activate Alert To stop a query from generating an , click - Stop Alert (Note that these alerts are for journals only.) Section 3: MY PROFILE 3.6 Alert Preferences This page allows you to change your address and specify your preferred format (text or HTML). Note that the address shown here is the same as the one kept under your Personal Account Information. You can modify it in either location.

9 Section 4: CONTENT 4.1 Journals Journal content on Wiley InterScience is presented organized by issues corresponding to the print version, the most recently published always appearing at the top of the page. Navigation links for the journal include lists of Issues, Editors, Author Guidelines, Subscription and Advertising rates. The table of contents of the Current Issue always appears on the journal's Home Page. The Issues navigation link calls up a list of all issues available online for the journal If you are accessing the site from within the IP range of an institution, which has a license with Wiley InterScience, their Logo or name can be displayed here. NOTE: This option is available to EAL customers only. Search in this Title allows you to target a keyword search to the current journal. Search by Citation lets you input an exact Volume, Issue, and Page Number to find a known article. Special Features, Special Issues, Trial or Discount Offers, and Related Products of Interest are displayed in this right-side column Listings show in reverse chronological order, with complete year, Volume, Issue, Date, and Page Range citations. DID YOU KNOW... Free Online Sample Copies are available for most journals? Click this icon on the issues list to access or click the Get Sample Copy link near the top of each journal page. NOTE: This option is available to Registered Users only. Browse through online back volumes by year.

10 Section 4: CONTENT 4.1 Journals (continued) Article Abstract Wiley InterScience makes abstracts from journal articles freely available. You do not have to subscribe to the journal, or register with Wiley InterScience to access abstracts. Elements featured in the abstract include: Browse through the abstracts in an issue Link to References Full Text (PDF or HTML, as available), and Related Articles article title and citation info author names and corresponding address abstract text DOI citation links to related articles and additional articles by the authors DID YOU KNOW... CrossRef is a collaborative reference linking service with over 1000 scholarly publishers participating to offer links from a reference citation to the cited material. For more information, see DOI for article. Links to related articles or articles by current authors. References Reference listings for a given abstract are available only to subscribers. Reference Linking is available for cited articles indexed by Wiley InterScience partners, including: ChemPort Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) PubMed / Medline ISI Web of Science and others... Full Text All journals offer Full Text articles in PDF; select journals also offer HMTL full text. Full text for journal articles is only available to subscribers or as individual articles accessed via ArticleSelect or Pay-Per-View. Link back to the journal issue, or article abstract or references from the header. Also, Registered Users can use the functional link to Save Article to My Profile

11 Section 4: CONTENT 4.2 Journal Backfile Collections Fully searchable and link-enabled, Wiley InterScience Backfile Collections restore a crucial connection with historical material, pre-dating online migration. Our retrospective collections are integrated with current web-based content and offer the same flexible retrieval and printing capabilities. Covering a range of tightly defined subject disciplines, our Backfile Collections represent a comprehensive archival solution - and eliminate issues of limited shelf space, collection gaps, materials degradation, and access. The Backfile Collections are presented just like current journals organized by issue, article abstract, references with citation links, and full text in PDF. However, unlike current journals, license to access full-text backfiles is not based on an annual subscription, but a one-time purchase of the collection. 13 Section 4: CONTENT 4.4 Reference Works Wiley InterScience offers online versions of many renowned and indispensible Reference Works, with flexible searching and access options to accommodate a range of research needs. Each Reference Work home page features a detailed description and a How to Order link. Browse articles lists by Title or Subject. Certain Reference Works also offer the option to browse by Author or special content categories. TIP: Registered users can add a Reference Work to their list of Saved Titles, just as with journals or onlinebooks. DID YOU KNOW... Several reference works feature online Sample Content, freely available to all users. Search in this Title Because of the distinct content of different Reference Works, this link will take you to a customized Advanced Search page that will allow you to build detailed queries targeted to the specific product. This Advanced Search page will provide a range of options for selecting relevant data types, subject categories, and publication dates to help you find the content you need. How to Order Online Reference Works are priced for multi-user, institutional access. Pricing for online access depends on the type of institution, size of the user population, and other holdings and reference works ordered Note that all Reference Works can be licensed on an annual basis, while some Reference Works can also be purchased for a one-time fee. There are separate worksheets available online to view pricing scenarios with different options. Full-text content from Reference Works is only available to licensed institutions or as individual articles accessed via ArticleSelect or Pay-Per-View.

14 Section 4: CONTENT 4.5 Databases Wiley InterScience Databases offer highly specialized content organized according to unique requirements of their target disciplines in chemistry, materials, science, and medicine. Database home pages offer the same familiar interface as all Wiley InterScience products, with specialized navigation links for its unique content. Search in this Title Because of the distinct content of different Databases, there are a number of specialized searches that allow you to find content within a given database. Depending on the specific title, these options may be available: narrative or text searching search within tables MeSH descriptors search by property search by substance metadata search chemical structure search.* * - Note that structure search may require the installation of a third-party plugin software, such as ISIS Draw or Chem Draw TIP: For databases that require third party software, such as browser plug-ins for chemical structure drawings, go to the Getting Started page linked from the database home page for information oh how to download and install. How to Order All databases are priced for multi-user, institutional access. Pricing for online access depends on the type of institution, size of the user population, and other holdings and reference works ordered All databases are available for license on an annual basis only, and full text entries are not offered via individual article access options.

15 Section 4: CONTENT 4.6 Current Protocols Current Protocols (CP) is a comprehensive and constantly-updated source for laboratory methods in all areas of the life sciences. Online, Current Protocols features robust browsing and searching capabilities, html and pdf full text, plus links to related Current Protocols material and external content cited in references. TIP: Click Search Across All Current Protocols Titles to enter search mode. BROWSING To browse a Current Protocols title, click on the title on the main CP page. Click a title in the Table of Contents to see the abstract, or go straight to HTML or PDF full text by clicking the appropriate links. HTML Full Text displays in your browser, with a convenient navigation pane, plus links in the document to other CP units, and from references to external abstracts and available full text.

16 Section 4: CONTENT 4.6 Current Protocols (continued) SEARCHING The Current Protocols search engine features powerful options to help target the information you need: Fielded Boolean Searching: Allows you to enter several search terms and, for each, select the field (e.g. Article Title, All Text, Section Title, etc.) in which to run the search. You can connect these search terms with Boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT. You can even specify the proximity of two search terms within the text using the NEAR operator. You can also restrict your search to one, several or all Current Protocols titles using check boxes. The wildcard asterisk character (*) within search terms allows you to include all forms of a term (example: the search term neuro* would return CP units with any word beginning neuro-, while the search term neurobiology returns only units with that exact word.

17 4.7 MobileEdition MobileEdition is a free services of Wiley InterScience that delivers tables of contents and abstracts from the latest issues of select Wiley journals directly to your PDA. It supports all the major handheld platforms and works automatically with desktop synchronization software. TIP: There 30 journals currently offering MobileEdition. You can choose the ones you want during sign-up, and change your selection at any time right on your PDA. Watch for more journals coming to MobileEdition throughout the year!

18 Section 5: Individual Document Access Options Most content on Wiley InterScience is available for customers to license online access on an annual subscription basis. However, there are also several options that allow users to access individual journal articles, OnlineBook chapters, and Reference Work entries that are outside their regular subscription holdings. 5.1 ArticleSelect ArticleSelect is available for institutional customers who hold either an Enhanced Access License (EAL) or a Basic Access License (BAL) with Wiley InterScience. It allows the customer administrator to order packages of pre-paid "tokens" that provide access to full-text content from non-subscribed products to Authorized Users within the institution. Librarians can order tokens and manage their institution's account from within the Customer Administration area: See the balance of tokens available in your account, and review the list of articles that have been purchased. Token Packs: Order in "packs" of 100 to 1,500, with discount rates applied based on quantity. 100 pack 5% discount off $23.75 per token = $ 2,375 USD 250 pack 20% discount $20.00 per token = $ 5,000 USD 400 pack 30% discount $17.50 per token = $ 7,000 USD 700 pack 40% discount $14.29 per token = $ 10,000 USD 1,000 pack 50% discount $12.50 per token = $ 12,500 USD 1,500 pack 60% discount $10.00 per token = $ 15,000 USD Confirmation options: The Customer Administrator can also choose different options for how users can "spend" ArticleSelect tokens, specifically, what Confirmation Message they see, and what method of Access Control is enabled Option A: No Confirmation Message Authorized Users enjoy seamless, direct access to the full text of a document not covered by the License. Option B: Confirmation Message Authorized Users view a preliminary confirmation screen noting that the Licensee is making this article available through Wiley InterScience ArticleSelect. Control Options: Option 1: IP Address Control Authorized Users must access Wiley InterScience from the Institution 's IP address. Option 2: IP Address/User Registration Control Authorized Users must access Wiley InterScience from the Institution s IP address and have a valid Wiley InterScience User ID and Password. Option 3: SuperUser Control The License Administrator designates a small group of Authorized Users as SuperUsers. They are the only Authorized Users permitted to "spend" ArticleSelect Tokens. Other Authorized Users must pass their requests for documents to these SuperUsers.

19 Section 5: Individual Document Access Options 5.2 Pay-Per-View Individuals who are not affiliated with a subscribing institution, or who wish to directly access any Wiley InterScience article outside their available subscriptions, can take advantage of the Pay-Per-View service. To use Pay-Per-View: 2. You must be a Registered User of Wiley InterScience and Logged-in with your Username and Password 3. Select an online journal article, book chapter, or reference work entry that is not included in any paid subscription available to you directly or from your institution. 4. Click the Full Text link 5. You will see a screen saying the system is unable to grant you access. Near the bottom of the screen click the "Buy Now" button. 6. Enter Your Billing Address You must enter a valid personal billing address (this is for verification only and is not retained in our system). 7. Review Billing Address and Complete the credit card information for billing 8. Click "Submit Order" You should now have immediate access to the full text article in PDF or HTML (as available). Your rights to access the content will last for 24 hours from the time you submit your order. You will receive a confirming with a link to the article or chapter for your reference. After 24 Register and Login Find an unsubscribed Full Text article Click "Buy Now" and enter billing info Confirm billing info and "Submit Order" You have access to the online full-text article for 24 hours TIP: If you have a 5-digit Pay-Per-View Discount Code from any promotional offer from Wiley InterScience, be sure to enter it in the indicated slot when you are placing your order! In My Profile: The "Order History" page provides a complete record of any Pay-Per-View or ArticleSelect articles you have ordered, including order numbers for your reference and links to the article. See the date and time when the article was ordered so you'll know exactly when its 24-hour access period will end plus a status indicator immediately tells you if the article is currently available or has expired.

20 Section 6: Searching 6.1 Basic Search Every page on Wiley InterScience includes a basic Search input. TIP: You can use simple Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT, quotes, *, etc.) in the basic search input. 6.2 Advanced Search Advanced Search is a stand-alone page that provides detailed options for crafting a complex search. Multiple inputs with menus for Boolean expressions You can limit your search to a category of products on Wiley InterScience the available bookshelves of OnlineBooks or journal backfiles. Drop down menus show the fields available for a targeted search: Publication Titles Article Titles Author Full Text/Abstracts Author Affiliation Keywords Funding Agency ISBN ISSN Article DOI References If you have saved any favorite journal, book, or reference work titles to My Profile, you can target only that saved content, as well. Target almost any range of publication dates as far back as 1946 in the case of some journal backfiles. Choose to arrange your results based on relevance to your search terms, most recently published, or alphabetically by title. Select any of the top-level subject areas to focus on a term as relevant to a particular field (e.g., "cellular systems" in Engineering as opposed to Life Sciences). TIP: You can always find specific examples on the "Search Tips" column that appears right on the Advanced Search page.

21 6.3 Search Tips Some specific examples of different approaches to searching. These tips appear on the Advanced Search page. Tip No. 1: Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT can be selected from the pulldown selection boxes or entered directly within the search text boxes. You can further restrict searches by selecting a field such as Article Title from the pulldown selection box at the end of the search input box. Tip No. 2: Use AND, OR, and NOT to create a more complex search. Use NEAR/ with a number to indicate proximity. Example: rat AND cancer NEAR/5 prostate >matches rat and cancer within 5 words of prostate. Tip No. 3: You can use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character. Example: carcino* > matches carcinogen, carcinoma, etc. Tip No. 4: As a shortcut for OR, you can use a comma ",". Example: gene, therapy > matches gene OR therapy" Tip No. 5: Search for exact phrases by enclosing a string in quotation marks. Example: "gene therapy" > matches that exact term Tip No. 6: Use parentheses to create nested searches. Example: (brain AND serotonin) OR (brain AND dopamine) 6.4 Search Results The Search Results screen offers a number of options to organize and retrieve content. View large result sets in groups of 25 per web page. To go directly to a specific result, use the links for Abstract, References or Full Text (HTML or PDF, as available) You can also click the checkbox next to an item, then hit View Selected Abstracts to page through a series of chosen abstracts in succession. Click the links at top of each page to show results under these specific product types: Journals OnlineBooks Reference Works Databases Current Protocols (NOTE: Bold indicates the results shown are from that product type.) OnlineBooks Reference Works TIP: You can save any query you like simply by clicking the Save Search link on the results page. (NOTE: To use this feature, you must be a registered Wiley InterScience user and logged into the site) Suggestion: Track publications of specific authors by saving a search with the author name and/or affiliation, then click the +Activate Alert option in My Profile to receive notification whenever a paper matching the criteria is published on Wiley InterScience. Sort results according to: Match % - A measure of relevance to your search criteria Date - Results list in order of most recently published. Product - Article results are sorted alphabetically based on the title of the publication where the article appeared.

22 6.5 CrossRef / Google Search To help connect users to a larger universe of online, peer-reviewed content, Wiley InterScience is one of the founding participants in the CrossRef Search, powered by technology from Google. The CrossRef Search represents the first phase of an initiative involving different publishers of primary scientific, technical, and medical (STM) content to employ industry-standard search technology to serve as a starting point for general web searching of online STM literature. Results from the search will appear in a special Google-sponsored interface, with direct links to article abstracts highlighted for all results.
