KEYWORD SEARCH: Tennis elbow or elbow tend?nit* or elbow tend?nos* or lateral epicondylitis AND laser* (we could use: low level laser* or low power laser*) SUBJECT HEADING SEARCH: Look up the SUBJECT HEADINGS (MeSH or CINAHL Headings)? Tennis elbow - as a subject AND Laser therapy, low-level as a subject

7 + Tennis Elbow & LASER Search 7 1. Go to MeSH (top of page) 2. Search for tennis elbow select it 1. Can you explode? 2. Do you want to make it a Major Concept? 3. Do you want subheadings?. Click SEARCH 3. Go to MeSH repeat step 2 for your second term: low level laser 4. Go to SEARCH HISTORY to see what you ve searched 5. CLEAR the search box!! (click on Clear button) 6. Combine using AND (click on s1 and s2 and use AND button) 7. If time, do keyword searches and combine

10 + 10 Tip: Remember to click on Search History for a list of searches you ve done. This is where you combine them (s1 and s2)

12 + But where is the LIMIT button??? 12 It is under Advanced Search

13 + Helpful Limits 13 Full-text Language English titles in [square brackets] refer to articles written in non-english languages Years citations are listed in the order in which they were entered into the database, usually the most recent first Publication types Age groups

14 + 14 Tip: Hold down the Control key to select more than one limit from the list

16 + Hands-on: Try out LIMITS! 16 Do a search (or select a search you did) Click on Advanced Search to access the Limits Try out these limits (hold down Control to select more than one from a list) Age groups or Publication types Search button is at bottom of page

27 + Ways to pull out physiotherapy 27 articles Conservative treatment* (or just conservative) Non-surgical or non surgical or nonsurgical or non-operative, etc. Physical therap* or physiotherap* Rehab* or use rehabilitation as a sub-heading Exercise* or manual therap* and any other specific therapy terms as keywords

28 + More ways 28 In CINAHL, use the subject heading Physical Therapy and explode it (advanced tip: type in MH physical therapy+) In Medline, use the subject heading Physical Therapy Modalities and explode it (advanced tip: type in MH physical therapy modalities+) Note: the subject headings above will include subject headings for exercise, manual therapy, etc see the Subject Heading Tree In CINAHL, limit to SPECIAL INTEREST = physical therapy

29 + Reminder: To get full-text articles 29 All full-text that we have will show up in your EBSCO searches (by next week) Go to the A-Z Journals List is the journal there? If not, is the article free on the Web? If not, ask Deb

30 + Recap: 30 Write a clinical question using PICO and select a database (view tutorials on website) Access EBSCO CINAHL & Medline on the PABC elibrary Do a keyword and subject heading search using EBSCO CINAHL (CINAHL Heading, explode, major concept, subheading) Use Boolean logic and, or, not Apply limits to a search (age, publication type, year, language) Work with search results by sorting, adding to folders, displaying, printing, ing, Consider searching Medline & CINAHL together but note subject headings will be different so check them first Create a search alert (or save your search permanently)
