26 Short quote An exception to copyright to use an excerpt of a work without asking permission from the author Use the exact text or data from the original information source Insert the quoted sentence(s) into the body of your text using quotation marks: Pay attention to the length of the quote (extract size / personal work size) How do I quote? Make sure to associate the quote or the reformulated sentence with the source it comes from Paraphrase A reformulation operation consisting in developing an idea from another source To repeat in one's own words the idea expressed by another Change the sentence structure, do not settle for synonyms Make sure to respect the meaning of the original text, to be understandable

28 Citation Link between your quote in your text and its precise bibliographic reference Identified in the text body using either : the author s name and the publication year between brackets : (Debiez, 2018) Harvard system Or numerals in the text: [1], (2) Numeric system The full bibliographic reference appears in the final list of documents (the bibliography) When a document has more than 2 authors, mention the first one then use «et al.»
29 What is a bibliographic reference? Data describing a resource or part of a resource, precise and detailed enough to identify it and to enable it to be located Some elements are mandatory Name of creator(s). Date. Title. Edition, place and publisher. Digital document : online resource, web page Mention [online] inserted after the title Mention of the reading date : [viewed 3 September 2006] and the full URL after «Available from :» Other elements may be used for other document types or specific medium : Medium designation, availability, access or location information ISBN (standard identifier) and number of pages for a book Series title and numeration for a journal Duration of a movie
30 The bibliography A list of information resources references, consulted and used during your research Arranged in alphabetical order by author s surname or by numerical order in a numbered list eventually by document type Present at the end of your document Homogeneously written using the same citation style within a document = one uniform format and punctuation schema for all bibliographic references, regardless of the particular citation style being used
