4 Introduction About this document This document assumes knowledge of the PLUS+1 concept and some understanding of the operation of the PLUS+1 GUIDE and Service Tool. This document provides: y An overview of the use of the PLUS+1 License Administration Tool. y An overview of the PLUS+1 License and how security can be used. y Details of how to use the PLUS+1 License Administration Tool. y Further PLUS+1 information can be found at: Overview PLUS+1 License Administration Tool The PLUS+1 License Administration Tool allows licenses to be created and managed for the PLUS+1 Service Tool. The PLUS+1 License Administration Tool is itself licensed. This license determines how many Service Tool licenses to be created and managed in the License Administration Tool. It is possible to have several PLUS+1 License Administration Tool licenses which extends the number of licenses that can be created and managed. PLUS+1 License The PLUS+1 License is used to control security to PLUS+1 applications and provides traceability of changes to applications. For example; the license can give the user different access levels to control what variable and parameters can be read or written to using the PLUS+1 Service Tool. PLUS+1 Traceability The public PLUS+1 Service Tool includes a license embedded in the installation that has the same ID for all users. The PLUS+1 License Administration Tool allows unique ID to be assigned to each user license. With a unique license ID the History Log in the PLUS+1 hardware will record: y Who The License ID y When y What Date of action (from PC clock) Performed action: Changes to an application. Compiling an application. Download to hardware Adjusting application parameters in hardware. Reading data from the hardware. 4 L Rev CA Oct 2013
5 Application Security Strategy PLUS+1 Security Features PLUS+1 allows many alternative methods for the control, deployment and life cycle management of applications in support of IEC None of the features are required to be used. However, if they have to be used, then it is helpful to develop a company wide strategy. This section describes the PLUS+1 features that are available and some questions that should be considered. Toolkey It is possible to provide a prevent access to PLUS+1 applications unless a user has the correct password or toolkey. The toolkey is a security code that is assigned to an application when it is created in the PLUS+1 GUIDE. To allow the PLUS+1 Service Tool access to an application, the toolkey must be known. The toolkey security code can be provided to the PLUS+1 Service Tool in one of three methods: y Embedded in the users PLUS+1 license. y Embedded in the PLUS+1 Service Tool application (P1D) file. y Entered manually by the user into the PLUS+1 Service Tool. The first two methods are preferred as the user does not need to know the toolkey. Therefore, toolkey security code would not be shared with unauthorized persons. A PLUS+1 license may contain up to three toolkeys. The default state of the toolkey in an application is blank. Therefore, it is possible for anyone with a PLUS+1 license to access an application and make changes to parameters and read signal values. Once the toolkey has unlocked an application then the further access control mechanisms may be used as described below. Read/Write Control and Access Levels Without the use of a toolkey in a PLUS+1 application any further restriction or security is meaningless. Read/write access is controlled independently, and groups of access can be disabled globally. When a group is enabled, access is then controlled by the access level. A number between 0 and 9. 0 is the highest access level, 9 is the most restrictive. The application developer will determine and program the access level for every signal and parameter in the PLUS+1 GUIDE. The users access level is determined by the PLUS+1 license. For example, a user might have inclusive access rights between 6 and 9, if the developer were to give a signal an access level of 5, the signal would not be viewable by the user. If the user has inclusive access rights between 0 and 5, the signal would be viewable by the user. File Download The PLUS+1 License can control if applications can be downloaded to PLUS+1 hardware. Details regarding license information and security settings, see PLUS+1 License Terminology, page 7 through 8. L Rev CA Oct
6 Application Security Strategy PLUS+1 Security Features (continued) PLUS+1 GUIDE Access Components Access components used in a GUIDE application will override the access rights defined in the license. License Start/Expiry Dates A PLUS+1 license can optionally be made to operate between the Start Date and the Expiry Date. Once a license has expired it cannot be reactive, it must be reissued with a new expiry date. It is possible for a PC to have several licenses loaded and available for use but only one PLUS+1 license can be active at a time. It is possible to update a user for one specific day to allow an unusual task to be conducted with a higher or different access level, or perhaps a different toolkey. After this time the special license would be no longer valid and the user would return to their original license. PLUS+1 Security Strategy When developing a company wide security strategy for PLUS+1 applications consider: y Is a security code required or should anybody, including competitors, be allowed to access applications? y Is a company wide toolkey, or a machine family or machine specific toolkey to be used? y Is a specific toolkey being used for a released development project? y Does everyone, including developers, production, service, distributors, and end users, require the same access levels to an application to read and write parameters? y Do different groups of people with different access levels need to be further divided into subgroups, even on a temporary bases, such as, when using the expiry date feature? PLUS+1 License Level Settings Parameter Full PLUS+1 GUIDE development / Service Tool design PLUS+1 Service Tool only Create Service P1D File Enabled Disabled Read Access Enabled Enabled Read Access Level 0 5 Write Access Enabled Enabled Write Access Level 0 5 Download Application Enabled Enabled Download Parameter File Enabled Enabled Read ECU History Enabled Enabled Application Log Access Enabled Disabled App Log Statistics Access Level 0 N/A App Log Errors Access Level 0 N/A App Log Others Access Level 0 N/A Danfoss reserves the right to change these settings at anytime without notice. 6 L Rev CA Oct 2013
7 PLUS+1 License Terminology PLUS+1 License Administration Tool License The PLUS+1 License Administration Tool license determines the number of licenses that can be created using the license administration tool. It is possible to use multiple licenses with the tool so the number of licenses managed can be extended at any time License Information Callout Item Description 1 License ID This cannot be changed and is provided for information only. If this box is checked then the user will be able download a parameter file to hardware. 6 Access Level The Access Level is a number between 0 and 9. The highest level of access is zero and the most restrictive is 9. The application developer determines the access level for every signal and parameter in the PLUS+1 GUIDE. If a signal is given an access level of 5 and the user has an access level of 6, 7, 8 or 9 then the user will not be able to see the signal. If the user has an access level between 0 and 5 then the signal can be viewed. Read Access Checkbox If this box is unchecked then the user will not be able to read any signals or parameters from any hardware. If this box is checked then the user can read signals given the relevant access level. Read Access Level Sets the read access level for this license.
