3 SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS Android 4.1 or higher and USB OTG support Note: Android OS 4.4 or later has restrictions and may limit the device s ability to write to either/both memory cards or OTG flash drives. FEATURES Allows you to easily access, transfer, share, and backup information. Organize your files quickly and easily. Protect your files during transfer with secure folders. Transfer contacts from one device to another. INSTALLING THE IMATION LINK APP 1. Open Play Store, then search for Imation LINK. OR Go to 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the app. 3
4 1. Tap OPENING THE IMATION LINK APP OR Connect your LINK device. Note: The first time you connect your LINK device a prompt appears. Check the box to have the Imation LINK app open automatically when your LINK device is connected to your smartphone or tablet, then click OK. 4
5 IMATION LINK MAIN MENU The Imation LINK main menu displays the areas where your files can be transferred and stored. Local LINK Device Settings Tap to expand menu options for files stored locally on your device or memory card (if connected). Tap to expand menu options for files stored on your Imation LINK device. Tap to expand and find information about this app. ACCESSING FILES Note: It may take a while to load your files the first time you access them in the Imation LINK app. After thumbnails are generated they will be cached for faster access. 5
6 PHOTOS 1. If your photos are saved to your: Smartphone or tablet, tap Local, Primary, then All Photos. Memory card, tap Local, ExtSDCard, All Photos (Read Only). LINK device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Photos. 2. To find a photo: Tap Tap Tap (View in List) to view your photos as a list. (View in Grid) to view your photos as a grid. to sort photos by name or date. Tap, then enter a file name to search for in the current folder. Note: If options are not shown, tap. 3. Tap a photo to view it. 4. To view all your photos as a slideshow, tap (Slideshow), adjust your slideshow options, then tap Start Slideshow. When you are finished, tap the screen to stop the slideshow. Note: The slideshow will start with your first photo or the photo you have currently selected. 6
7 VIDEOS 1. If your videos are saved to your: Smartphone or tablet, tap Local, Primary, then All Videos. Memory card, tap Local, ExtSDCard, then All Videos (Read Only). LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Videos. 2. To find a video, tap, then enter a file name to search for in the current folder. 3. Tap a video, then, if necessary, select a third-party app to view it. Note: Use the third-party app and your device to control playback and volume. MUSIC 1. If your music is saved to your: Smartphone or tablet, tap Local, Primary, then All Music. Memory card, tap Local, ExtSDCard, then All Music (Read Only). LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then All Music. 7
8 2. Tap the tabs to sort your music by: Artist Album Song Playlist Genre 3. Tap the song that you want to play. 4. To control playback: Tap or Tap Tap to play or pause the song. to skip to the previous song. to skip to the next song. Use your smartphone or tablet s controls to adjust the volume. Tip: You can also control playback from your app s main menu. 5. To create a playlist, touch, then, enter your playlist name, select songs, then tap OK. 8
9 FOLDERS 1. To open the folders on your: Smartphone or tablet s memory, tap then Folder View. Local, Primary, Memory card, tap Local, ExtSDCard, then Folder View. LINK Device, tap the LINK device you want to use, then Folder View. 2. To find a folder or file: Tap to sort by name or date. Tap, then enter a file name to search for in the folders and files currently listed. Note: The search function will only search what is currently open. To search for content inside a folder it must be open. 3. To create a new folder, tap, enter a name, then tap OK. 9
10 MOVING OR COPYING FILES PHOTOS, VIDEOS, OR MUSIC 1. Locate the file that you want to transfer. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and hold the thumbnail. Note: If there is no thumbnail, touch and hold the file name until a circle appears, then tap the circle. A check mark appears. Note: Once you select a photo, video or file, the Select All icon will appear. Tap to Select All files listed. Then tap individual files to de-select any files you do not wish to copy or move. 3. Tap, then tap Copy To (create a copy in a new location) or Move To (to save the current file to a new location). 4. Select where you want to save your file, then tap OK. Local Storage Your smartphone or tablet s local memory. 10
11 Imation LINK device Your Imation LINK external storage device. Securefolder Encrypted files stored on your Imation LINK external storage device. 5. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. 11
12 BACKING UP AND IMPORTING CONTACTS CREATING A BACKUP Note: All contacts are saved in a single VCF file. You cannot save individual contacts. 1. Tap Local, then tap Contacts. 2. Select Export contacts, then tap OK. 3. Select your Imation LINK device. Note: Selecting a different location will save a copy of your contacts in your smartphone or tablet s internal memory and will not back them up to another device. 4. Select the folder you want to save your contacts in (if needed), then tap OK. 5. Tap OK when your export is complete. Importing contacts Note: You must export your contacts to create a backup file before they can be imported. See Creating a backup for instructions. 1. Tap Local, then tap Contacts. 12
13 2. Select Import contacts, then tap OK. 3. Select the location where your contacts are saved, then tap the Contacts file. 4. Your Contacts or People app opens. Import your contacts using your app. See the app s instructions for more information. 13
14 BACKING UP YOUR ENTIRE PHOTO/VIDEO COLLECTION Note: To back up your contacts, see Backing up and importing contacts. PHOTOS OR VIDEOS Note: Your Imation LINK device must be connected to your smartphone or tablet to back up your photos and videos. 1. Tap Local, then tap Photo/Video Backup. 2. Tap the Imation LINK device you want to use. 3. Tap Skip existing files to ignore photos and videos you previously saved to your Imation LINK device, then tap OK. OR Tap Overwrite existing files to save over photos and videos you previously saved to your Imation LINK device, then tap OK. 4. Tap OK when your backup is complete. You can access 14
15 the files through the Folder View. See Accessing files for more information. 15
16 ENCRYPTING YOUR FILES To encrypt files on your Imation LINK device, save them to the securefolder. These files have AES 128 encryption and must be copied or moved out of the folder to view or edit. CAUTION: Files encrypted with the LINK app can only be decrypted with the LINK app and are not readable on a personal computer. Saving encrypted files for the first time 1. Locate the file that you want to securely transfer. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and hold the thumbnail. Note: If there is no thumbnail, touch and hold the file name until a circle appears, then tap the circle. A check mark appears. 3. Tap, then tap Move To. 4. Tap securefolder. 5. If you are saving a file to the securefolder for the first time, enter a password twice, then tap Confirm. 16
17 6. Select a security question from the list, enter your answer, then tap Confirm. 7. Select a location in the securefolder (if needed), then tap OK. Encrypting additional files 1. Locate the file that you want to transfer. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select the file, touch and hold the thumbnail. Note: If there is no thumbnail, touch and hold the file name until a circle appears, then tap the circle. A check mark appears. 3. Tap, then tap Move To. 17
18 4. Tap securefolder. 5. Enter your password, then tap Confirm. Note: If you forget your password, tap Recover password to enter the answer to your security question. Your password is displayed. 6. Select a location in the securefolder (if needed), then tap OK. Accessing encrypted files Files cannot be viewed in the securefolder. Files must be copied or moved out of the folder to view them. 1. Tap the LINK device you want to access, Folder view, then tap securefolder. 2. Enter your password, then tap Confirm. Note: If you forget your password, tap Recover password to enter the answer to your security question. Your password is displayed. 18
19 3. Tap the thumbnail of the file you want to open to select it. You can select multiple files. 4. Tap, then tap Move To. 5. Select where you want to save your file, then tap OK. 6. When your file is finished copying or moving, tap OK. 7. Navigate to and view the saved file. See Accessing files for more information. Changing the securefolder password 1. Remove all files from the securefolder. See Encrypting your files for instructions. 2. Move a file back to the securefolder. You are prompted to enter a new password and security question. See 19

21 ING AND SHARING FILES ON SOCIAL MEDIA OR CLOUD STORAGE Note: To share files on social media, you will need to be signed into your social media account through your smartphone or tablet. 1. Locate the file that you want to share. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select files, touch and hold the thumbnail of each file you want to transfer. Note: If there is no thumbnail, touch and hold the file name until a circle appears, then tap the circle. A check mark appears. 3. Tap, then select Mail, desired social media, or cloud storage account from the list. Note: You cannot share songs to Facebook or Twitter accounts. 4. Follow the on-screen prompts to share your file. 21
22 DELETING FILES 1. Locate the file that you want to delete. See Accessing files for more information. 2. To select files, touch and hold the thumbnail of each file you want to transfer. Note: If there is no thumbnail, touch and hold the file name until a circle appears, then tap the circle. A check mark appears. 3. Tap, then tap OK. CAUTION: If the Imation LINK App is uninstalled from your smartphone or tablet, the LINK Folder on the Ext SDCard will be removed and all content within the LINK Folder will be deleted. It is recommended to use this folder for temporary storage only. 22
23 SAFELY DISCONNECTING 1. Tap next to the Imation LINK device name. 2. Tap OK to open Settings. 3. Under USB STORAGE, tap Unmount. 4. Read the prompt, then tap OK. 5. Disconnect the Imation LINK device from your smartphone or tablet. Note: The Imation LINK app closes after a LINK device is disconnected. 23
24 TROUBLESHOOTING Smartphone or tablet will not recognize the Imation LINK device. Try closing the app, then re-opening it. Try restarting your smartphone or tablet. Make sure that your smartphone or tablet supports USB OTG (on-the-go) to let USB devices connect. Imation LINK app will not recognize SD card. Close the app completely, then reopen it. Restart your smartphone or tablet (with the SD card still in place). I forgot my password to the securefolder. Enter the answer to your security question. If you forget both the password and answer to the security question, files in the securefolder are not accessible. My Imation LINK app keeps crashing. Make sure the flash drive is securely in place. Uninstall, then reinstall the app. I cannot get a file to play or open. The file may be corrupt or damaged. If you have just tried transferring the file, try transferring the file again. The file may be encrypted. See Accessing encrypted files for more information. Make sure that your Android device supports USB OTG (on-the-go) to let USB devices connect. 24
