2 What is Freegal? Freegal is a music service offered through libraries that allows patrons to stream and download songs and music videos. To access Freegal there is no software to download and there are no digital rights management restrictions. That means that once you download a song or music video, it is yours to keep. Using your Whitby Public Library card you can: - stream an unlimited amount of music - download 7 songs each week (music videos count as 2 songs) Download the Freegal App To stream or download songs and music videos from Freegal on an Android tablet or smartphone, you ll need to download the Freegal app. Open the Play Store and search for Freegal. Tap the Freegal icon and then tap Install. The app will now download and install. September

3 Set Up the Freegal App The first time that you use the Freegal app, you will need to select the Whitby Public Library and enter your Library card information. Tap the search box and enter Whitby. Tap Whitby Public Library to select it as your library. Enter your Whitby Public Library barcode number and your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number). The first time that you use Freegal, you will be prompted to accept Freegal s Terms and Conditions. You must tap Accept to use Freegal. September

Email Notifications You will also be prompted to enter your email address to receive notifications from Freegal.

If you would like to receive email notifications from Freegal, enter your email address and tap Submit. If you are not interested in receiving email notifications from Freegal, tap Cancel.

4 Notifications You will also be prompted to enter your address to receive notifications from Freegal. These notifications will primarily let you know when your weekly download limit has reset, and how many weekly downloads you have left. If you would like to receive notifications from Freegal, enter your address and tap Submit. If you are not interested in receiving notifications from Freegal, tap Cancel. Find a Song, Artist or Album to Listen To At the bottom of the Freegal app are 4 icons: Home, Browse, Search, and My Music. The Home page will show featured playlists and artists. Tap Browse to search for music several different ways using the tabs at the top of the Browse page: Trending, New Arrivals, Genres, Playlists, Artists, Music Videos or Audiobooks. Tap a tab to select it and browse music. September

5 Use the Search function to search for a specific title, album, or artist. My Music Tap My Music to see the songs that you have downloaded, create or listen to Playlists, or view downloaded music videos. September

To stream music, you must have an Internet connection.

6 At any time, tap on the 3 dot icon in the top right corner of the screen to view your remaining number of downloads for the week. Stream Music You can stream an unlimited amount of music with Freegal. To stream music, you must have an Internet connection. Streaming a song is as easy as tapping the Play button for the song you want to listen to. To stream an entire playlist or album, tap Stream or Shuffle at the top of the track listing. September

7 Download a Song or Music Video To download a song or music video so that you can listen to it without an Internet connection, tap the 3 dot icon next to the title of the song you wish to download. Tap Download to download the song to your device. Once the download completes, you will see a message that the song or music video was successfully download. Tap OK to continue browsing for music, or tap View Downloads to go to My Music and view all downloaded songs. Songs and music videos downloaded to your device do not need an Internet connection to play. September
