8 1 Introduction The Appareo Transfer Utility is a program that allows for the automatic downloading of flight files from removable media cards (such as Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards) taken from Appareo flight recorders to a computer, and the subsequent upload of those files to the Appareo flight data server. Users are only required to use the Appareo Transfer Utility service manager interface to initially configure or change the configuration of the application. 1.1 SDHC card interface Figure 1: Appareo Transfer Utility service manager Use your computer s SD card reader or the SanDisk MicroMate external card reader that is included in the shipment of the system to read flight files from the Appareo flight recorder SDHC cards Page 8 of 22
9 1.2 Appareo Virtual File System The Vision 1000 records flight information onto an SDHC card using a virtual file system format. The Appareo Transfer Utility uses the Appareo Virtual File System (AVFS) driver to interact with the SDHC card data. The AVFS driver is installed on a computer during the Appareo Transfer Utility installation process. When an SDHC card containing Vision 1000 recorded data is inserted into a computer, the AVFS driver creates a virtual drive, which the ATU uses to access flight data. By default, the virtual drive is assigned to M of a computer. However, if M is already assigned, the next available drive is assigned Page 9 of 22
