Device Compatibility Guides by River Pilot can be used with these Garmin devices: nüvi Series StreetPilot Series c5xx, 7200, and zūmo Series 2xx, 5xx and 6xx. Getting Started Using a microsd Card The MicroSD Card Guides by River Pilot come on a microsd card for smaller card slots and includes an adapter for larger card slots.

Into Devices with a Large Slot If your device has a large card slot, the microsd card is first inserted into the card adapter.

7 Inserting the Card Into Devices with a Small Slot If your device has a small card slot, the microsd card is inserted directly into the device. 1. Insert the microsd card into the card slot. 2. Press the card into the device until it locks in place. Into Devices with a Large Slot If your device has a large card slot, the microsd card is first inserted into the card adapter. Then the adapter is inserted into the device. 1. Insert the microsd card into the card adapter. 2. Insert the card adapter into the device. 3. Tap No. To avoid performance issues on Garmin devices, DO NOT install the data on the device. When the message displays, always select "No". (Note: This message does not display on the Garmin Nuvi series 1xxx.The Warning message displays. 2. Tap Agree. The Garmin Menu page displays. If Nothing Happens On some devices, the above message will not display. To confirm that Guides by River Pilot is available, see Access Guides by River Pilot and follow the procedures to access the title page. 9 Using the Travel Guide (nuvi Series 3xx and 8xx) The microsd card must be inserted before using the Travel Guide. If you select the Travel Guide and the microsd card has not been inserted, you will see the following message: If this message displays: 1. Tap OK. 2. Insert the microsd card or microsd card and card adapter. 3. Tap Travel Guide to access the title page. Remove the SD card 1. Turn the device off. 2. Gently press the microsd card or card adapter into the device until you hear a click and the card pops out slightly. 3. Pull the card out of the slot. 11 Install the Garmin Plugin (First Time Only) When using a compatible Garmin device, a plugin must be installed on your computer in order to download files to your device. 1. Click on the Please install Garmin Communicator now message for your computer (either Windows or Mac). 2. On the Garmin Updates & Downloads page, under Communicator Plugin software, click Download. On the Garmin Installation Wizard, click on I accept the terms in the

14 Downloading Files From the Spot It Out Website For download compatibility information, see Download Compatibility Connect Your Device to Your Computer On a supported Garmin device: 1. Turn on your device. 2. Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable (not included). Wait 30 seconds for your computer to recognize the device. Purchase and Download From the Spot It Out Website 1. Connect your device to your computer. 2. Download the Garmin plugin (first time only). 3. Go to the Spot It Out website (www.spotitout.

Go to the Spot It Out website ( and select a download product. 4. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the purchase. 5. If you are a new User, enter user account information and click the Create an Account button. 6. Follow on-screen instructions and provide credit information. 7. 16 9. Click Download Files. This may take several minutes. Note: Do not disconnect your device during the download! 10. When the Download Successful message displays, do the following: On a Mac - On desktop, right-click on the Garmin icon and select Eject Garmin. Note: Garmin s do not show all POI s from your current location. They only show the closest 50 that are in the database and as you move away, or towards a POI, the GPS will add or remove the POI s accordingly. 4. Tap and to view more locations. 5. Note: Not available on all compatible Garmin devices. 1. On the Menu page: Tap Tools > Settings. 2. Tap 3. Tap Proximity Points. When Using a microsd Card Inserted the Card but Nothing Happens If nothing happens after the card/card adapter is inserted, do the following: 1. Remove the card/card adapter from the card slot. 2.

42 When Using a microsd Card Inserted the Card but Nothing Happens If nothing happens after the card/card adapter is inserted, do the following: 1. Remove the card/card adapter from the card slot. 2. If using the adapter, remove the microsd card and reinsert it into the adapter. When inserted correctly, the microsd card fits fully in the card adapter. 3. Re-insert the microsd card or card adapter into the device. When inserted correctly, you will hear a click as the card/adapter locks into place. If performing the above steps does not resolve the problem, the device may need to be reset. Refer to your device User s Guide for instructions on resetting your device. Install the Data on the Device Message Note: This message does not display on all compatible Garmin devices. On some devices, when the card is inserted a message displays asking if the data should be installed on the device. 44 Can t See Icons on the Map If icons do not display, do the following: On a Garmin nüvi Series 1xxx With the map display: 1. Tap and start zooming in on the map. The Zoom In ( ) and Zoom Out ( ) buttons are located on the upper right side of the displayed map. Note: Wait about 1 second between each zoom operation. 2. Continue zooming in until the icons display. 3. If the icons still do not display, see the following topic. On Compatible Garmin Devices Data from this or another title may have been inadvertently saved on the device. In some cases, multiple titles running on one device can cause icons to disappear. This will not impact any other feature. 1. Determine whether the data has inadvertently been saved on the device. Do the following: On a nüvi Series 2xx, 7xx, or 1xxx. Tap Where To? > > Extras. On a nüvi Series 3xx, 6xx, 8xx: Tap Travel Kit > Travel Guide. On a nüvi 5000: Tap Where to? > Extras. On StreetPilot Series c5xx, 7200 or 7500: Tap Where to? > Extras. 45 If more than one title displays on the page, the file must be removed from the device. 2. Remove the file from the device. Do the following: On a PC a. Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. b. Navigate to the data file on the device and delete it. c. Disconnect the device from the PC. On a Mac a. Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. b. In the Finder, navigate to the data file on the device and delete it. c. Empty the Trash Can. d. Disconnect the device from the Mac. 3. 46 Search for POIs Returns Locations in a State When searching for a Route 66 location, you first select a state (such as Illinois or Missouri). You next select a POI type (such as General Interest or Lodgings). However, if you select All Categories for a state and select a specific type of POI (<POI type>), the returned list includes all POIs of the selected type in the state that are geographically closest to you. 47 Downloads: Purchasing a Spot It Out downloaded product involves the following steps. Properly connect your device to your computer. (See Connect Your Device to Your Computer.) If you are downloading a Spot It Out product, you must install a Garmin plugin to allow the product to be loaded onto your device. The plugin only needs to be installed the first time you download files. (See Install the Data on the Device Message.) Once the download process begins, do not disconnect your device. Doing so may make your GPS device inoperable. Once the Download Successful message displays, disconnect your device properly: On a Mac - On desktop, right-click on the Garmin icon and select Eject Garmin.
