3 1. Introduction This manual provides specifications, installation procedures and configuring information for the COMWAY LED Remote Display Starter Kit. COMWAY LED remote display system 2. WG8010 Cellular IP Modem Installation In this example the requirements are: GSM/GPRS SIM with GPRS data enabled. An APN (Access Point Name). Username and Password, if GPRS is operating on a non-transparent network. Note: If you don t know the name of the APN you need to use, please contact your cellular network carrier for that information. 3.1 SIM Card Installation Insert SIM Card with the metallic part facing down and the clipped corner in the left. Note: Not to pull out the SIM holder without pushing the eject button 3.2 Connecting the Antenna The antenna is supplied with WG8010; connect it to the antenna connector on IP modem. 3.3 Connecting to PC The WG8010 have one RS-232 port; connect WG8010 to PC with serial line for later configuring. 3.4 Connecting the Power Connect the 5 to 16 VDC power cord with the WG8010 IP Modem's power input. 5 power is properly supplied, the "PWR" LED will glow a solid green color to indicate that the system is ready. 3.5 LED Indicators The LED indicators on the front panel of the WG8010 IP Modem are described in the following table. Configure WG8010 with AT command 4.1 Determine which Com Port to Use Step 1. On older computers, there is usually a built in Com port. This is normally Com1. Step 2. If you are using a USB-to-serial converter, you will need to determine which Com port it is installed on. Note: If the USB-to-serial converter has not been installed, install the necessary drivers per the instruction supplied by your USB-to-Serial device. Then leave the device unplugged. Step 3. Open up the System Properties window. This is done through the Control Panel System or right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Select the Hardware Tab. Step 4. Select the Device Manager button. Expand the Ports section by selecting the + sign beside Step 5. Plug in the USB-to-Serial converter. The window should change to show the USB-to-Serial converter installed. Step 6. Most devices will show the Com port next to the device name. Record this number. Note: Make sure there is no! or X next to the USB device. If you see an! or an X, the device is not properly installed and will not work. 4.2 Start HyperTerminal Step 1. Connect the WG8010 IP Modem to the PC COM port and run HyperTerminal software. From the Taskbar, click [Start], followed by All Programs Accessories Page 5of 14

6 Communications HyperTerminal. Step 2. You will be prompted to enter a description for the new connection. Enter a name for the connection (e.g. WG8010 IP Modem ) and click [OK] to continue. Step 3. In the Connect to dialog box, select the PC COM port number, which is connected to the modem, and click [OK] to continue. Step 4. In the next prompted dialog box; enter the port settings which is configured in the modem click [OK] to continue. Page 6of 14

7 Step 5.The Connected text in HyperTerminal status bar indicates that the PC is ready to communicate with the modem. Perform a simple check on the connection between HyperTerminal and the modem: Enter AT<Enter> command. An OK response (displayed on HyperTerminal) indicates that the connection is successfully established. Page 7of 14

8 4.3 Cellular Network Connection Configuration Step 1.Configure serial port: AT^BAUD= Step 2. Give the WG8010 a unique name: AT^ID= //ID should be 15 numbers or letters Step 3. Connect to your provider s network AT+CGDCONT=1, IP, cmnet // replace cmnet with your APN ATDT*9 Step 4. Configure the WG8010 to talk with COMWAY Test Server AT^SERVER= ds.fusionunix.com : 9000 Step 5. Setup transmission mode AT^PKMD=1 // COMWAY Protocol Step 6. Store the current configuration to memory: AT^SAVE 5. Configure WG8010 with configuration software WG8010 Configuration software can be used to configure the general parameters, without the need to look up AT commands. Page 8of 14

10 6. LED Message Board and LED Controller Installation Step 1. Connect WG8010 to LED controller with crossed RS232 line Step 2. Connect LED controller to LED message board with controller serial line and power line Step 3. Connect LED the LED controller to the power Shown as bellow: 7. Using COMWAY LED Publish software 7.1 COMWAY LED Publish Software Installation To install the COMWAY LED Publish software, follow these steps. 1. Insert the WG8010 Installation CD into the PC. 2. Run COMWAY_remote.exe 3. After you install COMWAY LED Publish system, a desktop shortcut is created, run it, you get a view of all the cellular IP modems. Page 10of 14

11 7.2 Set LED Message Board Parameters Click Edit to proceed with message editing. Select Setting --->Screen Set, Page 11of 14

13 Select Hard, Select your LED Controller Model Communicate Select Network IP address:input LED message board parameters:set according actual LED message board size and color Screen Width, Screen Height, Color Style and Screen Name. Set according actual LED message board parameters. Click SetScreenPara to Send your Settings to the LED Controller If the prompt of parameters send successfully is given, it means that you have setup correctly. Repeat above procedure to add more LED message board. 7.3 LED message Editing In Main Window, click File add a File, you can edit message in following style. MultiText: multi line moving text SingleLnText: single line moving text StaticText: still text Timing: timer Clock: Digital clock SimulantClock: Simulation Clock In the Preview Window, you can use your Mouse to move the Object to the position you want to place, or you can change the x, y position, the width or Height of the Object your Select in the preview window. 14 8.4 Send Message to LED Message Board Click SendData, close message editing window. Select one or more cellular IP modem, click Go. Publishing status will be showed in publish result field.. Page 14of 14
