1 Introduction Cloud and Collaboration Services Cloudscape is a social networking environment for students that has been introduced by NIIT. This environment can be used by NIIT students to connect with their peers and share information and interests. Users who are registered at NIIT may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when you update their profile. Users may join common-interest user groups, center groups, school/college groups, or other groups, and categorize their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Batch Friends". Users can see blogs of their friends and join groups. These groups will be displayed on the basis of their creation date. Objectives In this manual, you will learn to: Access Cloud Services Access Chat Access and Use Cloud Lab Access Version Management System Access Cloud Services In order to access Cloud Services from NIIT Cloud Courseware System, click the Cloud Services link. Alternately, the student can also log on to This will open the welcome page. Click the Cloud Services link in the Niitstudent welcome page under Registration Specific Services.
2 The Cloud Services Page This will take you to Cloudscape welcome page as shown in the following figure.
3 The Cloudscape Welcome Page Cloudscape is a social networking environment for students. It provides various features like Blog, Wall, Discussion, Messages, Groups, Chat, My Assessment and Assessment Scorecard. Let us look at each feature in turn. My Courses Cloudscape provides you with additional material to strengthen your learning for the course. This is given under a technology page, which can be accessed through My Courses option in the welcome page. Each course will have its own technology page under the My Courses section, that will contain additional learning material like Knowledge Bytes, Additional Examples, Simulations, Data files, etc. Cycle tests will also be available in this page. The student can access cycle tests required for the course through the My Courses page. Each technology page will be formatted as shown in the following sample technology page.
4 The Technology Page Blog Cloudscape provides students with their own blog space, which can be maintained by the students by making regular entries called posts. You can post comments, describe events, display graphics, or upload videos. You can also display your special projects in this space and add any other blog to your favourites list. Posts are displayed in reverse chronological order.
5 New Blog Post The Cloudscape Blog Page The New Blog Post page shows all new posts that have been added to the blog. You can comment on a blog by clicking the Comment tab. You can also add a new blog post by clicking the Add new blog post tab.
6 The Add New Blog Page Wall Cloudscape provides space for students to post their comments and observations.you can write on the wall or post comments on the wall.
7 The Cloudscape Wall Page In addition, you can search for friends, look up your friends' list, as well as look at recent activities of your friends on the wall. The Wall is protected by a security firewall to filter out unacceptable words or bad language, if any. Only logged in users can see the Wall link on the top. Discussion Discussion forum is an open space, where students can participate in an open discussion on a topic. This is the common area, where the students will discuss a question posted by an expert faculty. The comments posted on discussion forum will be mediated by experts. You can join any open discussion or even create a new discussion topic for other users to participate in. You may view the log of all topics discussed earlier and also the topics that you participated in. You may also search for a specific topic.
8 The Cloudscape Discussion Page Messages Students can send messages to groups or to individuals from this space. Messages help communicate with other students on a one-on-one basis or form a private group. you can also send and receive s from other users. you can open this option by clicking on the Messages tab. Messages can be sorted on subject or date.
9 The Cloudscape Messages Page Groups Groups is a feature that allows students to create their own groups based on interests, batches, or location. Some of the groups are predefined. 10 Access Chat Chat facility has been provided so that the student can connect with the faculty or a friend for help. Chatting with Friends or Faculty You can now avail this chat facility by either going to Web chat or downloading NIITiM onto the netbook. Web Chat You can directly interact or chat with their friends or faculty by using the chat feature in the NIIT Cloud Courseware System. To chat, you need to perform the following steps: Click the Chat tab in the Cloud Services link of in the NIIT Cloud Courseware System window. The chat window opens, as shown in the following figure. 11 Click the Options icon on the bottom left pane of the chat window. Select the Show all friends option, as shown in the following figure. The Chat Window Showing Friends Status You can view the status of your friend in the friends list, which is displayed in the left pane of the chat window.
12 The Friends List To view a friend's profile, click the Profile link that appears when you move your cursor over your friend s name. The USER PROFILE dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure.
13 The USER PROFILE Dialog Box To remove, block, or prohibit any friend, click the Edit link that appears when you move your cursor over your friend s name. The Remove/Prohibit/Block message box appears, as shown in the following figure.
14 The Remove/Prohibit/Block Message Box Changing your Profile You can change the look and feel of your profile by setting the status, mood, and activity appearing at the bottom left corner of the chat window. You can also add details to your profile by clicking the Profile link on the chat window. You can fill in the details by selecting the Identity tab in the YOUR PROFILE dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. Click the Save button to save your personal details.

18 Joining a Group Chat Room There will be chat rooms created for technical topics like.net, Java, etc. Experts will be logged into these rooms. Students can go to these rooms to chat with experts and get their issues resolved. You can join the public chat rooms over the network by performing the following steps: Click the Search icon on the bottom left pane of chat window. The SEARCH window appears, as shown in the following figure. The SEARCH Window Click the Browse icon under the Rooms section. The SEARCH window for searching a room appears, as shown in the following figure. You can also search for a particular technology by typing the name of that technology in the Search a room text box.

20 The Group Chat Room Window You can insert emoticons and even change the style in the group chat room by selecting the icons on the bottom left pane of the window, as shown in the following figure.
21 NIITiM Chat Style Options for Group Chat NIITiM is a chat software that enables the students to interact with their friends or faculty online. you can share their views, add new friends or join conference rooms. you can share audio files or share whiteboard. NIITiM Chat Installation Getting started with NIIT s IM chat System is as easy as downloading the installer and using it. To install NIITiM onto your netbook Before performing these tasks ensure that your netbook is connected to the internet. Download the NIITiM installer onto your netbook from under Cloud Courseware Downloads and double click the setup.exe. If Java runtime environment is not available on the netbook, the following message will be displayed.
22 Locate the Java runtime environment folder by clicking Locate. The Install4j Wizard If your netbook does not have the environment installed, you may download Java runtime environment from Once you have the Java runtime environment on your netbook, the installer will guide you through the rest of the setup process. You will see the following message displayed. The Install4j Setup Process Page You will be asked to verify the setup for security reasons.
23 The Publisher Verification Page Click the Run button. This will start the setup process. The NIITiM Setup Wizard
24 You will be guided through the setup process by the setup wizard. Click Next button to continue the setup process. The next message box that you see will ask you for license agreement. The License Agreement Page Select I accept the agreement option and click Next button to agree the license agreement. Next you will be asked to select the destination directory where you would like to install NIITiM. Browse to the folder you want to install the IM in and click Next button.
25 The Select Destination Directory Page Select the start menu folder in which you would like the setup to create the program s shortcuts. Then click Next button.
26 The Select Start Menu Folder Page This will start the IM installation process. You may cancel the setup at any time you wish to before the installation is complete by clicking the Cancel button.
27 The Installation of IM Page Once the installation is complete a message of successful installation will be displayed. The Completing Setup Page Click Finish button to complete the setup and exit.
28 Using NIITiM To start NIITiM, select Start All Programs NIITiM NIITiM. The login window appears, as shown in the following figure. The NIITiM Login Window Enter Username and Password then click the Login button. The NIITiM chat window appears, as shown in the following figure.
29 The NIITiM Chat Window Adding Contacts/Groups The students can add a contact or group to their list by selecting the Contacts menu item on the menu bar. The list of contacts appears, as shown in the following figure.
30 The Contacts Menu Item Add Contact To add contacts to your list, you need to perform the following steps: Select Add contact from the Contacts menu. The Add contact dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. Select the username and nickname. Then click the Add button.

The Friends Status on Chat Window A subscription request will be sent to your friend. The Subscription request dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure.

33 The Newly Added Friend on Chat Window Add Group To add new groups to your profile, you need to perform the following steps: Select Add contact group from the Contacts menu. The Add new group dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure. The Add new group Dialog Box Type any new group and click OK. The group will be added automatically and the chat window appears, as shown in the following figure.
34 The Newly Added Group on Chat Window Chat Features Student can avail the chat feature of NIITiM chat window by performing the following steps: Select Start a chat from Actions menu bar, as shown in the following figure.

38 Invitation to Join Conference To invite a friend to join a group chat or conference, you need to perform the following steps: Select the Invite Conference icon appears on the extreme right corner on the group chat window. The invitation request appears, as shown in the following figure. The Conference Invitation Message Click the Accept button. The group chat window appears, as shown in the following figure.
39 The Group Chat Window Sharing Audio To share audios with your frinds, you need to perform the following steps.: Select the Audio button on the bottom left corner of the chat window. A request will be send, as shown in the following figure.

41 Sharing Audio Sharing a Whiteboard To do whiteboard sharing with your friends, you need to perform the following steps: Select the NIITiM Whiteboard button on the top right corner of the chat window. An Invitation messgae box will appear, as shown in the following figure.
42 Start a Whiteboard Session Click the Yes button. The Whiteboard sharing window will open, as shown in the following figure.
43 Sharing a Whiteboard Session A student can share text or images with a chat friend, which will appear automatically on the friend s window. Start a Conference To start a conference, you need to perform the following steps: Select Start a conference from the Actions menu bar. The Conference rooms window opens, as shown in the following figure. The Conference rooms Click the UserList button. The UserList dialog box appears, as shown in the following figure.
44 User List Dialog Box Select the user and click the OK button. The user will appear on the Conference rooms window, as shown in the following figure.
45 Conference rooms Click the Invite button. An invitation will be send to them. Join a Conference To join a conference, you need to perform the following steps: Select Join conference room from the Actions menu bar. The Browse conference rooms window appears, as shown in the following figure.

48 The Selected Conference room Window My Calendar Student can check all booked events with batch milestones in My Calendar option. Slot Booking The My Calendar Page In order to use a cloud lab the student needs to book for a cloud lab session. This can be done through the Book clab option in the Cloud Services screen. When a student selects the Book clab option, the following screen opens. The slots are arranged in a tabular format according to date and time and are color coded. If a slot is shown in blue color then the slot is available for booking. The number of slots for that specific time slot is shown in the slot box. Those slots that have already been booked by the student are shown in orange. Slots that are not available for booking are shown in grey. In order to book a cloud lab click on a slot you wish to book.
49 The CLOUD LAB BOOKING Screen To book a clab session, you need to follow the steps given below: Click the date for which you want to book a slot, and then a CLOUD LAB BOOKING DETAILS page will appear, as shown in the following figure.
50 The CLOUD LAB BOOKING DETAILS Page Select all the deatils to make the booking from drop-down buttons in the page. Now click the Book Slot button. You will be shown a booking confirmation message that displays your booking slot id. This token will also be sent to you to your registered address as well as sent via sms to your registered mobile phone number.

53 The Confirmed clab in My Calendar Page You will be allowed access to the clab only on the day and time for which you have a confirmed booking. Access and Use Cloud Lab Back to top A student needs to have a confimed booking in order to access a cloud lab. Once your booking is confimed, you will be sent an with your token id and time of your clab booking. An sms will be sent to your mobile phone with a similar message. At the appointed date and time click on the event appearing on your calendar. This will take you directly to the clab login screen. Your Student Id, Registration Code, and Student Name will be displayed on the login screen. Please verify your details carefully. On the apoointed day and time of you booking you can access the clab from your calendar.
54 The Confirmed clab Booking on My Calendar Click the tab that is highlighted for your booked day and time. This will open the CLOUD LAB ACCESS screen. This is your entry point to Cloud Labs. Enter the token number that you have been given for this slot. Click the Continue button. The CLOUD LAB ACCESS Screen
55 You need to enter the correct token id for the current date and time of clab. In case you have booked for more than one clab at two different time slots, you need to enter the correct token id. issued for the clab slot. Click the Validate. The Enter Token Number Screen Once your token id has been validated the details of your booking will be displayed. Verify these details and click the Continue button. 56 Once your token id has been validated you will be required to take a short survey on why you are accessing clab today. You may select from the given choices or enter your own comments. After completing the survey, click the Continue button. The clab Survey Screen Once your token id has been validated and you have completed the shoonce your token id has been validated and you have completed the short survey on why you are accessing clab today, you are ready to log into the cloud lab. You will be taken to cloud lab welcome screen. This screen will have three buttons. clicking upon the Instructions button will open a quick set of instructions in your browser. These instructions tell you how to access the Version Management System and the exercises. Click the Help button, it will open the complete user manual for all the cloud components. When you are ready to enter the cloud lab, click the Enter clab button.
57 The clab Welcome Screen You will be taken to the cloud lab login screen. Enter the login and password details as provided to you in your confirmation . The clab Login Screen
58 This will take you to the Virtual Machine (VM) desktop where you can start working on your cloud lab exercises. Your VM desktop will be similar to any other desktop. For your convenience, we have provided a set of quick instructions for working on your VM as wallpaper. You may refer to these instructions any time that you need help. The clab Desktop Wallpaper Screen You may access your exercises from the central repository using Version Management System as shown in the following figure.
59 The Access Exercises Window The details of accessing exercises in your VM will be explained in the next section of user manual in the Version Management System. You may access the application that you want to work on from the start menu of programs.

62 Access Version Management System Version Management System (VMS) is a centralized repository system where the students will have their own lockers as folders. The Version Management System enables a student to store all documents relevant to their course in a centralized location which can be accessed from anywhere. This centralized repository will also enable the student to access cloud lab and MR exercises from anywhere. The Version Management System Icon In order to access the Version Management System you need to follow the steps given below: From Programs select NIIT Version Management System. Alternatively, you can also doubleclick the icon on your desktop. Once your VMS window opens, click the Working Copy from the Menu Options. Add a folder into which you want to download your exercises as a working copy to the list.
63 You may also remove a working copy from the list. You can now Checkout and Commit files from VMS to this folder. The Set Working Copy Page The first time that you access VMS, you will be asked to accept the security certificate. You can either accept the cerificate temporarily or permanently. The security certificate is shown in the following figure.
64 The VMS Security Certificate Dialog Box Access the Exercise Folder In order to access your exercises, please follow the following steps: From the VMS menu, click the Checkout option. You will be asked to enter the URL of the folder which you want to access on the VMS. Once you enter the appropriate location, click the OK button. In order to access your folder, you need to specify your Student ID. Your folder will be named the same as your Student ID. You may also access other folders by stating their names. Please note that the VMS is case-sensitive, so you need to be careful when you enter the name of the folder as shown in the following figure.
65 The Checkout Window in VMS You will have complete read/write rights on your personal folder. You will have only read rights on all the other folders. Once you have entered the name of the folder that you wish to access, you will be asked for your login and password. Your Student ID is your login and the password will be given to you at the time of registration.
66 The Login Dialog Box After logging in, all the files within that folder will be downloaded into your working folder in the VM. You can now start working on your exercises.
67 The Working Folder Window If the checkout is successful, you will see a check mark in green on your working folder. This indicates that the folder is in sync with the Version Management System.
68 The Synchronized Working Folder Window Click the folder to see the contents inside. In addition to the files you checked out you will see another file names.svn. This is the file that keeps track of your folder activity in reference to Version Management System. This updates everytime you access the Version Management System. Do not delete or edit this file in any way.
69 Add Files to Version Management System The Working Folder Contents Window In case you want to add new files or modified files to your personal folder in the repository, follow the steps given below: Create a separate folder which we will refer to as solution folder here on and save your work in that folder. Make sure the files you want to Check in or Commit are in the solution folder. Click solution folder and select Add to Server. You need to add the folders to the server before you can check them in.
70 The Add to Server Window Next you should update your files on the server so that you have the same version. This is especially important if you are adding files that already exist on the server.
71 The Update Modified Files Window After you have done Add to Server you will be shown the list of files you wish to add to the server. Select the files that you want to add.
72 The Add Files to Server Window The list of files that will be added to the server will be displayed in the display window of the VMS. Make sure these are the files that you want to commit finally.
73 List of Files Now select Commit to server option from the menu. You will also see this option if you select the path where your working folder is and right-click on it.
74 Commit to Server Always make it a good practice to write a log of what is being checked in and the purpose. After the files are committed into the repository, a log shows a list of all the files updated. This can be used to keep track of which file has been uploaded.

77 The Update from Server If a lot of users access the same files at the same time, you may want to update the files in your folder before logging off by selecting Update from Server.
78 The Node History Dialog Box The Node history is shown at the end of this transaction indicating that the files have been successfully uploaded and your working folder is in sync with the repository.
79 The Node History Dialog Box Delete Files You can delete the files from your personal folder only. You do not have write rights on any other folder. In case you need to delete files from your personal folder, select Delete from server option from the menu. You also get this option if you right-click on your mouse while pointing to the working folder. You need to be careful while deleting the files. Once you are deleted you cannot recover them.
80 The Delete from server Option Delete Working Copy Folder You can delete a working folder from your list or from disk. In order to delete a working copy folder, select the Remove selected working copy from list or Remove selected working copy from disk option from the menu options. You will also get these options by pointing to the working folder you wish to delete and right-click your mouse button.
81 The Remove selected working Copy from disk Option You will be asked to confirm the action before you permanently delete a folder as shown below. To click the Yes button will delete the folder permanently.
