1 To install the BAAN Data Navigator On that machine must be installed the BAAN User interface and logic (see the BAAN IV installation manual.) Furthermore, you also require a connecting BAAN database server, which the BAAN Data Navigator can use as a data source. To install the BAAN Data Navigator Server you require the following specifications. Hardware 64 megabyte (MB) RAM, 128 MB recommended. At least a Pentium 133 megahertz. 150 MB of free disk space (after you installed BAAN). For Display Properties a Color Palette with a minimum of 256 colors is required. Software Windows NT 4.00 server. Network Protocols: TCP/IP. Network Services: Internet Information Server on TopTier server. BAAN Data Navigator client Hardware An Intel system. Software Windows NT 4.00 workstation or Windows '95. Network browser installed. To install the BAAN Data Navigator server Carry out the following steps to install the BAAN Data Navigator server. 1 Checklist For planning purposes you must fill out the following checklist before you install the BAAN Data Navigator server. You can always refer back to this checklist for troubleshooting. The data in brackets refers to the architectural diagram of page
1 To install the BAAN Data Navigator Checklist for installation BAAN Data Navigator Server Name (reuter) IP address ( ) Local BSE (C:\Baan4c) BAAN already installed Yes / No WebServer Root (C:\WebServerRoot) BAAN Database Server Name Type (OS) (pico) UNIX / NT IP address ( ) Remote BSE BAAN version BAAN IV installation manual available during installation (/usr7/b4c/bse) BIVb2 / BIVc Yes / No 2 To prepare the BAAN Data Navigator server for installation (set up the Baan User Interface and Logic) If you use a remote database server, you must check/change some registry entries and other BAAN-specific settings. You must do this on the machine where you want to install the BAAN Data Navigator (for example, reuter). BAAN User Interface and Logic If you have not done this, you must first install BAAN User Interface and Logic. See the BAAN IV Installation Manual. User files rbaan file The file rbaan is in $BSE/lib/user (for example, C:\Baan4c\lib\user\rbaan). The syntax of this file is : <name database server><space><remote BSE><SPACE><Encrypted password> 1-3
1 To install the BAAN Data Navigator The first field on the first line must specify the name of the database server. The second field must specify the BSE on that database server. The third field is an encrypted password. Be careful not to make any changes to this. Example of file rbaan: Pico /usr7/bivc/bse!xh}5vk U{c~m>j0sus/7mwpE!HPDl2\ ubaan file The file ubaan is in $BSE/lib/user (for example, :\Baan4c\lib\user\ubaan). Set the Pacc field to the database server s package combination according to the BAAN version of the tables. For example, pacc=b40sc Table definitions The file tabledef6.1 is in $BSE/lib (for example, C:\Baan4c\lib\tabledef6.1). According to the client/server principle you must specify the server where the database is located. The first line must read as follows (if this line is not present you must type it yourself): *:*:<server name> For example, *:*:pico Check connection with the database server Test the connection with qptool. Start a command prompt window and go to the local directory $BSE/bin (for example, C:\Baan4c\bin) and type (in lower case): qptool -c0 -q"select user from ttaad200" <enter> If this command creates a list of user names you have the correct settings and connection to the BAAN data. If not, refer to chapter 3 (Troubleshooting) of this document. Add Baan user called toptier Log on to the database server and add a user on the database server with user name toptier and password toptier. User type must be superuser. Through this user you can connect to the database server. The default company number of the toptier user must be 000. In addition, you must also add a user baan to the BAAN environment. The user type must be superuser. Keep in mind that every time the toptier server is running, the toptier user will be a concurrent user. 1-4
1 To install the BAAN Data Navigator 3 To install the BAAN Data Navigator server The following steps are related to a subsequent window in the setup procedure. 1 Run setup from the BAAN IVc Navigator folder of the installation CD. 2 Click Next on the welcome window. 3 Select destination location folder. 4 Select destination program group or default 5 Select Web Server Root Folder. This must be the one selected when you installed your specific Web server (check your Web server). For example, C:\Web Server Root when Internet Information Server is installed. 6 Enter the IP address or Internet name of the BAAN Data Navigator server (is current) machine (for example, ). 7 Review your selections in the Ready to Install window. Go back if you must change anything. 8 After you carried out the installation, the Security Installation runs automatically and sets the user profiles. Use toptier logon and toptier password to log on. The Security Installation carries out the following tasks: The Security Transporter imports all Baan users into the BAAN Data Navigator server. For reasons of security it cannot import the passwords. Default passwords that are similar to the user names will be created. You can modify these passwords by attaching a suffix to them. Type the suffix you want in the Edit field before you start the process. You can also make additional changes to user settings and passwords by clicking the Manage Users button after the security transport has been completed. 9 Carry out the Security Transporter instructions carefully. Refer to the Administration Guide to update the Security Installation. When prompted for a logon, you must always use the toptier user name and the toptier password. 10 After you completed the installation you will receive a message, which tells you that the installation was successful. 1-5
1 To install the BAAN Data Navigator 4 To configure the Web server (Internet Information Server) Start Internet Information Server and create an alias to the shell.html file in the subdirectory Baan on the Web Root. For example, alias: data-navigator pointing to directory c:\web Server Root\Baan with default html page shell.html. Users can connect to the BAAN Data Navigator server with address Baan Data Navigator server>/<alias> For example, or To install BAAN Data Navigator client The plug-in installer is downloaded from the BAAN Data Navigator server you connect to. Carry out the following steps to install the BAAN Data Navigator client. 1 Start the desired Internet browser on the PC. 2 Fill out the URL field with the Internet name of the BAAN Data Navigator server and press enter. As follows address of BAAN Data Navigator server>/<alias>. For example, 3 Click Download the TopTier plug-in to run the self-extracting installation TopTierWebNavigator.exe on your HTML page. 4 If you are prompted to save or open the file, select Open It and click OK. 5 Click Yes if a window appears with a warning that the files can contain viruses. 6 The Installation has started. 7 Select the browser on which you want to install the Web Navigator (Netscape or MS Internet Explorer). The installation will locate the browsers. If it fails to locate the MS-IE, it will prompt with a Folder Selection pane, which will ask to locate the MS-IE folder. If it fails to locate Netscape Navigator, it will prompt with a Folder Selection pane, which will ask to locate the folder that contains Netscape.exe. 1-6
2 To administer an application The BAAN Data Navigator is a fully integrated, multiplatform development environment on which you can design and build information systems (applications). The Internet is one of the major platforms that the BAAN Data Navigator supports. The applications that are created by using Enterprise Builder provide users with a simple, object-oriented drag-and-drop user interface that allows free and associative access to large databases. Once it has been created, the application no longer requires Enterprise Builder to run. The Internet application consists of three parts: 1 The BAAN Data Navigator Server. 2 The Web server. 3 The BAAN Data Navigator client, which runs on the client PC. The Internet application relies on advanced technology to navigate within a Web application. Instead of using a static, hard-coded hypertext link to jump from one place to another, the BAAN Data Navigator application uses hyperdata links. A hyperdata link is a dynamic link. The user can specify the required information by dragging a data object to one of the icons (atoms) on the left side of the browser screen. The Web navigator retrieves and displays the information that matches the combination selected elements. To set up an application To run the BAAN Data Navigator on the Internet you must make sure that the following specifications are met. On the BAAN Data Navigator server Both the BAAN Data Navigator server and the Web server can reside on the same machine. If this adversely affects performance, however, you must consider using different machines for each server. The BAAN Data Navigator server runs on Windows 95 or Windows NT. See the installation manual to install the BAAN Data Navigator server. 2-1
2 To administer an application Carry out the following steps to set up the BAAN Data Navigator server: 1 Open the BAAN Data Navigator folder and double-click the TopTierServer.exe file. 2 Right-click the BAAN Data Navigator icon (located on the taskbar) and choose Properties. You can now assign the server properties: Specify the IP port value (default is 9999). Specify the number of streams (files) that you can download simultaneously. This value must be slightly higher than the number of users who will access the application simultaneously and request data from the database. You can tune this value to optimize performance at any time (refer to Chapter 3, Troubleshooting). 3 Set the Full Media path and Media alias. This information is used to dynamically create the correct links between media (images, audio, video, animations, and so on) and the requested data while the TopTier server is running. The Full Media path is the path to the actual database and points to the Media folder. The default path is: C:\ \DATAFILE\MEDIA-FOLDER. The Media alias is a nickname, which you can use in HTML documents to refer to the MEDIA-FOLDER. On the Web server Configure the Web (HTTP) server. Refer to the documentation provided by your Web server supplier. The following Web servers have been approved by TopTier: Netscape Servers Microsoft IIS O Reilly Web site To set up the Web server, you must: 1 Map the full Media path and Media alias so that they match the settings on the TopTier server (see previous section). Refer to the URL mapping or Path Mapping section of your Web server documentation for more information. 2 Set the Mime Type: set the extensions.atm and.atom to application/atom. Refer to the Content Types section of your Web server documentation. It depends on the server whether you must indicate that the extension is a binary type. 2-2
2 To administer an application On the client PC You must install the following components on every PC that will run the BAAN Data Navigator application: A supported Web browser. The recommended browsers are: Netscape Navigator version 3.0 and higher Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher The NPTool.dll plug-in. This plug-in must be installed in the Netscape Plug-In folder or in the Microsoft Internet Explorer Default Tools folder. To check which plug-ins have been loaded in Netscape: Click the Help menu Choose the About Plug-Ins command User and security administration In the Administration module, a system administrator can customize Enterprise Builder for a specific enterprise. The Administration module contains atoms through which a system administrator can add system users, define the type of user, and assign a password to each user. User management describes how to add a new user to the system, to define a user as a regular user or a security officer, and to define and change user passwords. 2-3
2 To administer an application User management You can define two types of users in Enterprise Builder: 1 Security officers 2 Regular users The first user to log on to Enterprise Builder is automatically defined as a security officer. A security officer has the authority to add users to the system, define their user type (regular user or security officer) and assign and change their passwords. A regular user must know the current password to change it, whereas a security officer can change a password without knowing the current password (refer to page 2-6 for further information about changing passwords). A user can be assigned to a user class (group). This way you can define functions, such as access rights, for a group of users at the same time without having to define these individually. To access the user administration atom To access the user administration atom, you must: Double-click the Modules icon on the Enterprise Builder desktop. The Modules folder opens. Double-click the Administration icon. The Administration folder opens. Double-click the User icon. 2-4
2 To administer an application NOTE To find users Through Enterprise Builder, security officers and regular users can both view a list of all users and forms with information about each user. To display information about a specific user, you must: Launch the User atom. The following window is displayed. By default this window opens in Find mode. In the Find mode you cannot use the Change Password button. Type in the user s ID or user name and click Find or press ENTER. A form with information about the user will be displayed. You can also display a list of users and select a specific user as follows. Enter an asterisk (*) in the User ID field and click Find to display a list of all the users. Double-click a user in the User ID column to display that user s form. You can modify this form as required. To add a user A security officer is permitted to add a new user to the system. To add a new user, you must: Launch the User atom. Select Add User from the Data menu. In the User form, all fields become active. Enter an ID for the user in the User Id field and the name of the user in the User Name field. Click Save to add the new user to the system. If required, you can now assign the user to a user class (group). Description of the fields and buttons in the user window: User ID Specifies the user identifier that you must enter when you log on to Enterprise Builder. The user ID can contain 10 characters. User Name Specifies the name of the user (up to 20 characters). User Class Enables you to assign a user to a group so that a function can be applied to a group of users at the same time. 2-5
2 To administer an application Minutes before Screen Lock Specifies the number of minutes before Enterprise Builder will be locked when not in use. A zero in this field disables the lock. To restart you must enter the user s password in the displayed Logon window, which automatically appears when the screen is locked. A small Padlock icon appears in the lower left corner of the Enterprise Builder desktop to indicate whether or not Enterprise Builder is locked. If the padlock is open, Enterprise Builder is not locked. If the padlock is closed, Enterprise Builder is locked. User Record is a User Class Specifies that the user is a regular user. This user cannot define other users. User is a Security Officer Specifies that the user is a security officer. A security officer can provide other users with a security officer's authorization. Security officers can add new users and change a user's password without knowing the current password. Change Password Button Click this button to specify or change the user s password, as described in the following section. To change a password Enterprise Builder provides a password option to limit access to Enterprise Builder. Through a user's password, Enterprise Builder knows whether a user is a security officer or a regular user. The user s authorizations within Enterprise Builder are assigned accordingly. The Logon window and the User form both contain a Change Password button. You can use either of these buttons to change the password. The Logon window is automatically displayed when you start Enterprise Builder. Refer to the instructions on page 2-5 to access a specific User form. Regular users can only change their passwords by first entering the current password. Security officers, on the other hand, can change a password even if they do not know the current password. 2-6
2 To administer an application Security After you completed the installation, the Security Installation runs automatically and sets the user profiles. The Security Installation imports all BAAN users into the BAAN Data Navigator server. For security reasons, however, the passwords are not imported. Default passwords that are similar to the user names will be created. You can modify these passwords by attaching a suffix to them. Type the suffix in the Edit field before you start the process. You can also make additional changes to user settings and passwords. Click the Manage Users button after the security transport has been completed (see User management). 2-7
