3 1. Introduction This document provides the instructions on how update the Maxim supplied software application/algorithm in the MAXREFDES220 Heart Rate, SpO2 Sensor Board. Block Diagram 2. Minimum PC Requirements 1.9 GHz i5 Dual Core. AC Power Supply must be plugged in. 8 GB RAM. Maxim Integrated 3

4 3. Required Hardware - MAXREFDES220 HR Sensor Board - MAX32630FTHR FeatherWing Host Microcontroller Board (Pegasus) - MAXREFDES100HDK Programmer - Two micro-usb cables 4. Unzip and copy the Required zip files to a directory - c:\maximintegrated\maxrefdes220\setupppg_evkit_ _win10.msi - c:\maximintegrated\maxrefdes220\ SetupPPG_EvKit_ _Win7.msi - c:\maximintegrated\maxrefdes220\ MAXREFDES220_MAX32630FTHR_Host_2018_08_10.bin - c:\maximintegrated\maxrefdes220\maxrefdes220_hr_algorithm_os24_1.8.1a.msbl - c:\maximintegrated\maxrefdes220\ max3263x_hdk.cfg 5. Program the Host Microcontroller, MAX32630FTHR 5.1. Connect the header connector of the MAXREFDES220 to the MAX32630FTHR (Pegasus) header connector Connect the 10-pin SWD grey cable to the MAX32630FTHR and the MAXREFDES100HDK. Note that the cable is keyed and pin 1 of the cable is red. Maxim Integrated 4

5 5.3. Connect the micro USB cable to the MAXREFDES100HDK Connect the micro USB cable to the MAX32630FTHR. Connect the other end of both of these cables to the PC Verify that the Windows driver is installed correctly Wait a few minutes for the driver to Windows driver to install Go to Start, Control Panel, Device Manager If the drivers have correctly installed, you should see the two ports listed as mbed Serial Port If you see the following, then you will need to install the correct Windows driver: Maxim Integrated 5

6 To Install the Windows Driver, Download the Arm Mbed Windows serial port driver from here: For Window 10 users, run the mbedwinserial_16466.exe by double-clicking it For Windows 7 users, Follow these instructions. i. Do not double click on the.exe. Instead Right click on mbedwinserial_16466.exe file, extract to a folder. ii. Inside that folder, edit and add the following to the mbedserial_x64.inf that the following italicized vid's and pid's are in the [_Devices] section. iii. [_Devices] %S_DeviceDesc1%=Install,USB\VID_0D28&PID_0203&MI_01 iv. %S_DeviceDesc1%=Install,USB\VID_0D28&PID_0204&MI_01 v. %S_DeviceDesc1%=Install,USB\VID_1F00&PID_2012&MI_01 %S_DeviceDesc1%=Install,USB\VID_1F00&PID_2012&REV0100 vi. %S_DeviceDesc1%=Install,USB\VID_1F00&PID_2012 Then right click on the "? CDC device", Update Driver Software, Browse My Computer for driver software, and enter the folder name from above. Wait at least 3 to 5 minutes for the driver to install. vii. If there is still an issue, run the mbedwinserial_16466.exe file After the USB cables are connected properly, you will see a new Drive on your PC called DAPLINK. Drag and Drop the.bin file to the DAPLINK folder. Click Yes. Wait for the MAXREFDES100HDK to stop blinking. Maxim Integrated 6

7 5.7. Press the reset button on the MAX32630FTHR. 5.8 Verify that the LED on the MAX32630FTHR is flashing green. 5.9 If the LED on the MAX32630FTHR is not flashing green, then the firmware needs to be flashed 5.10 Install the Maxim ToolChain to your Windows PC: Go to this site below and create a login and password, then go to this link again if necessary: Select the link for: Low Power ARM Micro Toolchain (Windows) Then select the link for: ARMCortexToolchain.exe (20MB) After the ARMCortexToolchain.exe has finished downloading, doubleclick on it and use the default settings and select next until finished Select "Install the Driver/Run it Anyway" when Windows says that it doesn't recognize the driver In the folder C:\Maxim, double click on updates.bat If updates.bat fails it may be necessary to open it in a text editor and call the commands manually In Window, navigate to this directory: c:\maxim\toolchain\msys\ Double click on msys Type the command below inside of the MINGW32 window: openocd -f max3263x_hdk.cfg -c "program MAXREFDES220_MAX32630FTHR_2018_08_10.bin verify reset exit" Maxim Integrated 7

8 Press the reset button on the MAX32630FTHR. Maxim Integrated 8

Use DeviceStudio for I2C In-Application Programming of the MAXREFDES Double-click on the file the DeviceStudio installer For Window 10 users, double click on SetupPPG_EvKit_ _Win10.msi For Window 7 users, double click on SetupPPG_EvKit_ _Win7.msi Click Yes to the Confirm Execution Check the acceptance of the license box, Click Install Click Finish 6.2. Run DeviceStudio, and click Yes to the Confirm Execution Check the Serial over USB/Bluetooth box. (Uncheck the other boxes.) Maxim Integrated 9

10 6.4. Click on Scan Once Connected, go to Device -> Update <Platform> Software -> Update Firmware Navigate to the.msbl file (Maxim supplied algorithm) to In-App flash the MAXREFDES220. Click Open. Click OK to the warning. Maxim Integrated 10

11 The application program is now flashed into the MAX Maxim Integrated 11

12 7. Run the PPG Heart Rate GUI from Device Studio 7.1. Click on Launch Tool Click Skip Tutorial Place a steady finger on the MAXREFDES220 optical sensor (best to be sitting down in a steady position and not talking). Maxim Integrated 12

13 7.4. Check the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) box (leave the Algorithm Data box as checked and Click on Start Monitoring. 8. Known Issues Maxim is working resolving these known issues: 8.1.
