9 Release Overview Intel NetStructure Host Media Processing (HMP) Software performs media processing tasks on generalpurpose servers based on Intel architecture without the need for specialized hardware. The software provides media services that can be used to build flexible, scalable, and cost-effective next-generation IP media servers. HMP software is an Intel communications building block technology. When installed on a system, the software operates with customer applications similar to an Intel NetStructure board with DM3 architecture, but all media processing takes place on the host processor. To help customers accelerate their time to market and migrate their existing applications to IP, the software also supports two direct APIs: R4 for media processing and Global Call (GC) for call control. HMP software uses a built-in network interface card (NIC) to provide IP connectivity. HMP supports the industry-standard H.323 and SIP protocols for call control; RTP/RTCP for media streaming over IP in G.711, G.723, and G.729 format; and the T.38 format for fax over IP. HMP software is implemented as a Windows* operating system kernel-mode driver that runs at real-time priority. The software is optimized to run on the Intel Pentium III, Pentium 4, and Xeon processors. HMP software can be installed and upgraded like any other software. The HMP software is licensed using an industry-standard model in which the MAC address is used to node-lock the software to a specific computer. To enable customers to choose combinations of media processing, HMP software is offered in a variety of licensing models. Refer to the Features section for a list of the features supported by HMP. 9

Using Command Line Parameters to Install HMP Software The HMP Software setup program enables software component installation using command line parameters. This feature eliminates the need for user input during program execution and, optionally, eliminates screen output resulting in a silent install. You can create customized installation programs for HMP Software by including the contents of the HMP Software release package on your distribution media and then passing command-line parameters to the HMP Software Setup.exe program through a batch file. For detailed instructions about creating customized installation programs for the base HMP Release 1.1 software, see section 2.5 of the Intel NetStructure Host Media Processing Software Release 1.1 Feature Pack 1 for Windows Installation Guide. Creating Response Files Normally, an installation process receives user input as responses via dialog boxes. A silent install, however, does not prompt the user for these inputs and must get them from a different source. A response file contains information similar to what an end user would enter as responses when running a normal interactive installation. You can create a response file by executing a command that records the user inputs to a response file at run time. The format of the response file is similar to an.ini file, but response files have an.iss extension. A response file is a plain text file consisting of sections containing data entries. To create a response file by having InstallShield record your installation choices in the setup.iss file: At the beginning of the install process, run the command: setup.exe -r Continue with the install process and respond to the install prompts. After the installation has completed, copy the response file (setup.iss) from the Windows directory (for example, C:\winnt) to the same directory as setup.exe. 20
21 Setup Command Line Parameters for HMP 1.1 Service Update The command line parameters for Setup.exe as described in Section of the Intel NetStructure Host Media Processing Software Release 1.1 Feature Pack 1 for Windows Installation Guide apply to the HMP Service Update with the following exceptions: The COMP keyword and the component tokens (Table 4 in the Installation Guide) are not supported. The DIR keyword is not supported (Section 2.5.3, Defining the Destination Directory). The -ip switch is not supported. You must create a Response File if you wish to perform a silent install. The only switches (see Table 5 in the Installation Guide) that are supported are as follows: The -f1 switch is supported. The -f2 switch is supported. The -s switch is supported, but must not be used with the -ip switch. Service Update Setup Example The following example silently installs the Service Update and specifies the response and log files (the program takes response input from a:\somedir\somedir.iss and logs setup information to a:\somedir\somedir.log). Setup.exe -s -f2 a:\somedir\somedir.iss -f2 a:\somedir\somedir.log If the f1 option is not supplied, the default response file, setup.iss, is used and must be in the same location as setup.exe. A response file must be created before attempting a silent install. If the -f2 option is not supplied, the default log file name, setup.log, is used and the file is created in the same location as setup.exe. The -f2 option must be used when silently installing from a read-only medium (e.g. CD-ROM). 21
