59 Chapter 3 System Design 3. System Design The system is completely described in the analysis model and the system design is the first step toward the designing of the system. System design provides us with detailed diagrams of the system which is then implemented. System design results in the following diagrams. A list if design goals, describing the qualities of the system that developers should optimize. System design is the transformation of the analysis model into a system design model. In the system design the design goals of the project are defined. The goal of system design is to establish a design approach that provides the functions that are described in the system requirements. There are some diagrams that describe the flow of the system: 1. 69 Chapter 4 Implementation 4. Implementation Implementation (software) perspective describes software implementations in a particular technology (such as Java). Implementation means programming and building the system, not deploying it. In the implementation phase, the developer builds the components either from scratch or by composition given the architecture document from the design phase and the requirement document from the analysis phase. The architecture document should give guidance. Sometimes, this guidance is found in the requirement document. The implementation phase deals with issues of quality, performance and debugging. The end deliverable of implementation phase is the product itself. 4.1 Software Technologies Android Android is a complete operating environment based upon the Linux V2.6 kernel. Initially, the Deployment target for android was the mobile phone-arena, including smart phones and low cost flip-phone devices. However, Android s full range of computing services and rich functional support has the potential to extend beyond the mobile phone market Java Java is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in There are lots of applications and websites that will not work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day. Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is a network control protocol designed for use in entertainment and communications systems to control streaming media servers. The protocol is used for establishing and controlling media sessions between end points. Clients Remote Security Camera Monitoring System page. 60

70 Chapter 4 Implementation of media servers issue VCR-style commands, such as play and pause, to facilitate real-time control of playback of media files from the server Vision Library (OpenCv) OpenCV (Open Source Computer Vision) is a library of programming functions mainly aimed at real-time computer vision, developed by Intel Russia research center in Nizhny Novgorod, and now supported by Willow Garage and Itseez. It is free for use under the open source BSD license. The library is cross-platform. It focuses mainly on real-time image processing. If the library finds Intel's Integrated Performance Primitives on the system, it will use these proprietary optimized routines to accelerate it VLCJ (Open Source) Vlcj is a framework that allows you to embed an instance of a native vlc media player inside your Java application. There are a lot of special requirements that must be met when embedding vlc. Those requirements are, as much as possible, encapsulated by vlcj enabling application developers to use a media player component just as they would use any other Java component. 4.2 Tools Netbeans IDE Netbeans Ide let you quickly develop Java desktop, mobile and web applications Android SDK Google provides Android Software Development Kit to aid developers in producing Android applications. It is consists of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that enable easy interaction with device's hardware (buttons, touch screen, compass, GPS etc.) and operating system. It also includes a plug-in for Eclipse IDE that enables easy debugging and simulation of the written applications. At the time of writing the report, the latest version was the Android 1.0 SDK release 2. Remote Security Camera Monitoring System page. 61

72 Chapter 5 System Testing 5. System Testing Software testing is the process of evaluation a software item to detect differences between given input and expected output. Also to assess the feature of a software item. Testing assesses the quality of the product. Software testing is a process that should be done during the development process. In other words software testing is a verification and validation process. 5.1 Verification Verification is the process to make sure the product satisfies the conditions imposed at the start of the development phase. In other words, to make sure the product behaves the way we want it to. 5.2 Validation Validation is the process to make sure the product satisfies the specified requirements at the end of the development phase. In other words, to make sure the product is built as per customer requirements. 5.3 Basics of software testing There are two basics of software testing: blackbox testing and whitebox testing Blackbox Testing Black box testing is a testing technique that ignores the internal mechanism of the system and focuses on the output generated against any input and execution of the system. It is also called functional testing Whitebox Testing White box testing is a testing technique that takes into account the internal mechanism of a system. It is also called structural testing and glass box testing. Black box testing is often used for validation and white box testing is often used for verification.
