3 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 3 Chapter 1 DinoStor TapeServer User's Guide 1.1 Overview of this User s Guide This document is arranged into chapters. These chapters are highlighted in the following list: Chapter 2 provides an introduction to the DinoStor TapeServer. This chapter includes an orientation to the physical attributes of the TapeServer as well as its administrative tools. Chapter 3 contains step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the TapeServer. Chapter 4 includes instructions for commonly performed administrative tasks. Chapter 5 describes the LCD. This reference information is useful for initial system set up and normal system operation. Chapter 6 describes the tabs, pages, and fields of the Administrative User Interface. This reference information may be useful during installation, configuration, or while performing other administrative tasks. Chapter 7 describes the Command Line Interface. Chapter 8 includes troubleshooting procedures. Chapter 9 includes configuration guides for the TapeServer with 3 rd Party Software. Chapter 10 contains warranty, regulatory, and contact information. 1.2 Document Notes The DinoStor TapeServer User's Guide makes use of the following conventions: Note: This icon indicates that the reader should take special note. This icon indicates a warning to the reader. Although the images relating to the Administrative User Interface in this document exclude the browser frame, it is implied that all Administrative User Interface tasks are performed through a browser window. This document refers to "tabs" and "pages". These navigational components are illustrated in the image shown above. There are three tabs: Configure, Monitor, Administer. Within each tab, there are a few to several pages.

4 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 4 Chapter 2 Introduction The DinoStor TapeServer is a 1U high, rack-mountable appliance that acts as a conduit between an Ethernet Storage Network and one or more SCSI or Fibre Channel tape libraries, enabling multiple network data servers to backup to tape libraries. The DinoStor TapeServer provides the following benefits and features: Enables data servers to backup to any, or all, existing network libraries. Backup any NDMP-compliant data server to any SCSI and/or Fibre Channel tape library. Compatible with all major data backup management software. Assumes backup tasks from the data server. Backup any computer (from large network data servers to PCs) on a network. 2.1 TapeServer Panels Front The front panel of the DinoStor TapeServer is shown in the figure below. The front of the TapeServer has an LCD with control buttons. The LCD and the buttons will be lit when the TapeServer is powered on Back Figure 1: Front View The 10/100/1000 Base T Ethernet network ports are located on the left side. If the TapeServer model you have supports SCSI devices interconnection, connections are made to the 68-pin scsi0, scsi1, and optionally scsi2 and scsi3 ports. Otherwise, for Fibre Channel (FC) tape library interconnections, connections are made to the 2 multimode, LC-style fibre connectors fc0 and fc1. Check the label to identify the logical name of each of the Ethernet, SCSI, and FC ports. The following diagrams show the back panel view for a SCSI and FC model. The following table describes the LEDs. In the following table, left LED refers to the LED on the left when you are looking at the back panel.

The rightmost pair of Ethernet ports is rotated 180 degrees, having the opposite LED definition of that described in the table below. Activity Fault 2.2 Administrative Tools The DinoStor TapeServer includes three administrative tools: the LCD on the front of the TapeServer, the Command Line Interface, and the Web browser based Administrative User Interface. These tools are used primarily during the initial configuration of the system. For detailed descriptions of the tabs, pages, and fields of these tools, reference the specific chapters for them. 2.3 Technical Specifications The DinoStor TapeServer adheres to the following specifications. 7 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 7 Chapter 3 Installation 3.1 Configuration Planning It is important to select network and device configurations before installing the DinoStor TapeServer. Your TapeServer comes with either 2, 3, or 4 network ports. Plan your network so that the TapeServer network ports are used efficiently. You may dedicate one port for control communication with the backup management application, or use all ports for data transfer with filers. You can either have all ports on the same subnet or different subnets. The choice will depend on how you want to balance the data traffic and / or achieve network fault tolerance. TapeServer can handle ethernet jumbo frames (up to MTU size of 9000). To achieve optimal performance, enable jumbo frames on filers and the network switches (if supported). Your TapeServer comes equipped with either 2 or 4 SCSI channels or 1 to 2 FC channels. A SCSI channel with multiple drives may only be as fast as the slowest drive. Although up to 15 devices can be connected to a SCSI channel, for optimal SCSI performance you may want to: Restrict the number of tape drives per SCSI channel to 2. Use similar drives types per SCSI channels. Divide SCSI devices evenly between the 2/4 SCSI channels. Another consideration to make when attaching a tape library is regarding SCSI cable length. The SCSI LVD specification limits the overall length of cable per channel to 12 meters. It is important to remember that this also includes the internal cable lengths. Inferior cables and increased number of connection points can also reduce the overall length allowed. Your TapeServer may support AES 256-bit encryption (refer to the technical specifications). If you plan to use encryption, it is important to be aware of the following: Encryption can be enabled/disabled on individual tape devices. The TapeServer does not store the passphrase nor does it perform any key management. Therefore either the key or the passphrase should be stored in a separate and secure location by the user. In general, encrypted data is less compressible. Therefore, enabling encryption may lead to a reduction in throughput as well as increased tape usage. The TapeServer encrypts data written by Filers (dataservers), but not Data written by the Backup Server. 3.2 Site Preparation Prior to installing the TapeServer, confirm that the following items are available and ready for use: 1U of rack space Network (One or more 10/100/1000 BaseT) Tape Library and Tape Drives with either SCSI or Fibre Channel VAC (50-60Hz) Power Source, capable of providing 190W Nominally LVD/SE VHDCI, 68 pin SCSI cable(s) (male connector) or Fibre Channel cable(s) with LC-style connector Ethernet cable(s) (CAT 5E, RJ45 connector) IP addresses assigned to DinoStor TapeServer network interfaces if DHCP is not enabled An Administrative Computer: A computer with network access to the DinoStor TapeServer. This computer will be used to configure and administer the system. It must be equipped with either: a secure shell (SSH) client (such as PuTTY) to access the Command Line Interface or a web browser to access the Administrative User Interface: Recommended Browsers: IE 6+ or Firefox 1.5+ or Netscape 6.0+ Supported Browsers: IE 5.0+ on the following platforms:

Remove the TapeServer unit from the shipping container. 2. Position the unit in the desired location. To install the unit in a rack, secure it horizontally to the rack using the 4 rack mounting screws. Installation location safety considerations: Due to agency compliance and safety issues (risk of fire), the rack-mounted unit should not be installed sideways. To prevent overheating, do not install your TapeServer in an enclosed rack that is not properly ventilated or air-conditioned. The equipment must be installed for use in a maximum air ambient temperature of 35 deg C. For pluggable equipment, the socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible. 3. The rack-mounting hardware included with your DinoStor TapeServer is suitable for most 19- inch, 2-post and telco-type equipment racks. 4. Install the TapeServer into a rack by placing the front rack mount tabs over the rack rails.

9 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 9 5. Securely fasten all 4 rack mount screws into the tabs. Figure 4: Rack Installation 6. Connect the network ports to the desired network or networks. 7. If SCSI support is provided, connect the SCSI cable(s) from the tape drive (s)/tape library to the scsi0, scsi1, and optionally scsi2 and scsi3 ports. (Note: These are not hot-pluggable.) Alternatively, if Fibre Channel support is provided, connect the fibre channel cables to the fibre ports (fc0 and fc1). 8. Connect the power cord. Then press and hold the check mark button on the front to power on the TapeServer. 9. Configure the IP addresses on the LCD. 10. Verify that the Administrative Computer has network access to the DinoStor TapeServer. 3.3 Software Configuration This section provides an overview as well as step-by-step instructions for configuration. The steps should be followed in the order specified. (Refer to the later chapters for detailed descriptions of the tabs, pages, and fields of the configuration tools.) Overview of the Configuration steps: (Each of these steps is explained in detail in the sections following this list.) IP Address Configuration: Set the IP Address for at least one of the network ports using the LCD display. Access the Administrative User Interface or Command Line Interface on the TapeServer. Set the network parameters for all network interfaces that are to be used. Set the time on the TapeServer. Set the NDMP parameters. Verify the connected SCSI or Fibre Channel devices. Change the password. Optionally enable Encryption. Configure Diagnostic Logging. Store the Configuration to a file IP Address Configuration The DinoStor TapeServer comes from the factory with the following IP Addresses: net net

10 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 10 net net The TapeServer IP address(es) can initially be configured via the LCD Display on the front panel of the TapeServer Using LCD Display The following instructions assume that the LCD display will be used to configure the TapeServer IP address(es). Follow these steps to configure the IP Address: 11. Access the LCD display on the front panel of the TapeServer. 12. Initially, the screen displays the default TapeServer name and current transfer rate: 13. Repeat the following steps for each network interface. 14. Press any button to access the LCD menu. Then use the up/down button to scroll the menu. 15. With the cursor over the Set Network menu item, press the check mark button. 16. The TapeServer network interfaces display. Note: If the TapeServer has 4 network interfaces, the 4 th interface is accessible by scrolling to the next page. 17. Use the left/right arrows to select the network interface that is to be configured. Press the check mark button to select that interface. 18. The Select DHCP page displays. 19. Use the the left/right arrow buttons to select the correct response. If Yes is selected, the saving notification displays and the display returns to the default screen once DHCP has been enabled (either return to step 17 to configure the next network interface, or skip to step 26 to set up the default route). If No is selected, the IP address for the selected network interface displays.

11 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the digit to modify. Use the up/down arrow buttons to increment/decrement the IP address digits. When the IP address is correct, press the check mark button to continue. 21. The netmask for the selected network interface displays. 22. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the digit to modify. Use the up/down arrow buttons to increment/decrement the netmask digits. When the netmask is correct, press the check mark button to continue. 23. The Save page displays. Save net0? Yes No 24. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the Yes option. Press the check mark button to save the IP address and netmask. 25. The Saving notification displays and the display returns to the default screen once the IP address and netmask are set successfully. 26. If your environment requires a network gateway to be set, go to the LCD menu and select Set Default Rte. The following page appears. 27. Set the IP address of the default route s network gateway. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the digit to modify. Use the up/down arrow buttons to increment/decrement the default route IP address digits. When the IP address is correct, press the check mark button to continue. 28. After the IP address is set, select the network the gateway is on then press the check mark button.

12 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide The Save page displays. 30. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the Yes option. Press the check mark button to save the default route. 31. The Saving notification displays and the display returns to the default screen once the gateway is set successfully. 32. Proceed with the configuration by following the steps in the Start Administrative User Interface section Start Administrative User Interface It is assumed that the following steps will be performed via the computer designated as the Administrative Computer. Follow these steps to access the Administrative User Interface: 1. Open a web browser window. 2. Start the Administrative User Interface. (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 3. Login to the Administrative User Interface. 4. Upon successful login, the Administrative User Interface displays. If this is the first time you have logged in after a factory reset, you will be directed to the Configure tab, Network page. Otherwise, you will be directed to the last page you accessed. All administrative pages are available from this interface Set the Network Parameters Follow these steps to set the network parameters. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and then select the Network Page.

13 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide The diagram below shows the Network page. Figure 5 Network Configuration Page 3. Change the name of the TapeServer if desired. The default name is "dinostor". If multiple TapeServers are installed, it is recommended to name each one uniquely. 4. Set the DNS parameters: domain, primary server, and secondary server. (These are not required fields.) 5. For each network interface, either select DHCP or set the IP Address and Netmask (or verify that the network settings are correct if already set using the front panel display). 6. Change the MTU field if you want to enable jumbo frames. Note: Jumbo frames should only be enabled if all of the components (switches, servers, etc) on the network support them. Otherwise performance will degrade. Check with all the components to determine the proper MTU settings. 7. If desired, add a default route with the appropriate gateway IP address. Enter the text default or in the destination. The subnet mask will be disabled. Enter the gateway IP address in the gateway field. Click the Add button to add this route. 8. If other static routes are needed, add them using the method described in the previous step. The differences being that the destination should now be an IP address and the subnet mask is required. Click the Add button to add each route. 9. When the network settings are configured, click the Save button. 10. After clicking the Save button, the network settings are applied. If the IP Address of the interface through which you are browsing the Administrative UI was re-configured during this procedure, then connectivity may be lost. Wait for a few seconds and try to access the Administrative User Interface again using the new IP Address. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI network commands would be used: Configure the TapeServer name using the network hostname command. Configure the DNS parameters using the network dns command. Configure network interface(s) using the network interface command. Configure static routes using the network route command.

14 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Set the Time on the TapeServer Setting the proper time and time zone ensures that the log messages have a time stamp that corresponds to the time zone in which the TapeServer is installed. Setting the time and time zone is not required. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the Time page. Figure 6 Time Configuration Page 2. Select the time zone from the drop down list. 3. The TapeServer's time can be synchronized with the time of an NTP server if one is installed on this network. To synchronize the TapeServer time with the NTP server time, select the NTP radio button and enter the name or IP Address of the NTP server. Alternatively, if NTP is not used, then select the Manual radio button and set the time in accordance with the time zone specified above. After setting this option, click the Save button. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI time commands would be used: Configure the TapeServer time zone using the time zone command. Configure the TapeServer time using the time manual command. Configure the TapeServer to use NTP using the time ntp command Set the NDMP Parameters Follow these steps to set the NDMP parameters. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the NDMP page.

15 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 15 Figure 7 NDMP Configuration Page 2. If the Allow New Sessions checkbox is not selected, select it to enable new NDMP sessions. 3. Leave the Default Version set to '4' unless you know that your backup server is incompatible with NDMP v4 and if your backup server will not negotiate the protocol version from v4 downwards. 4. The Data Paths are the set of network interfaces which the TapeServer will report as valid interfaces for use in communicating with the Filer(s) (dataservers) during backup or recovery operations. You may have all of the configured interfaces selected if you are running in NDMP v4. (Note: NDMP v3 and v2 only support one single communication point between the TapeServer and the Filer (dataserver). If you are running in NDMP v2 or v3 environment, you should select only one network interface.) 5. Most backup servers use the default network Port Number of to connect to the TapeServer. Only change the Port Number setting if the backup server does not use port to connect. 6. Set the User Name and Password for the backup server to connect to the TapeServer. The default User Name is "ndmp", and the default password is "ndmp". To change the password, enter a new password in the New Password and Retype fields. To leave the password unchanged, simply leave the New Password and Retype fields blank. 7. The default TCP window size is set to 160 Kbytes. Depending on your environment, a different TCP window size might improve your performance. We have observed a situation where a backup from a Network Appliance filer required a 1 Mbytes TCP window to avoid performance degradation. We suggest that you start with the default TCP window size and increase the value to achieve optimal performance. 8. Click the Save button to apply the changes to the server. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI ndmp commands would be used: Configure the TapeServer to allow new ndmp sessions using the ndmp allow_new_sessions command. Configure the default NDMP version using the ndmp default_version command. Configure the data paths using the ndmp data_path command. Configure the NDMP port using the ndmp port command. Configure the TapeServer NDMP username and password using the ndmp user and ndmp passwd commands. Configure the NDMP port using the ndmp tcp_window_size command.

16 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Enable the SCSI Devices If your TapeServer is configured with SCSI interfaces, follow the instructions in this section to verify your SCSI tape library and drive configuration. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the SCSI page. Figure 8 SCSI Configuration Page 2. The tape library media changer and tape drives should be listed on the page. The devices are enabled by default. Verify that the devices shown are the expected devices. There should be one entry for each tape drive and one entry for each media changer. If the expected devices are not shown, then please refer to the troubleshooting section. 3. Make sure that all SCSI devices you want to use are enabled. To enable a SCSI device, check the Enable checkbox. An enabled device will be reported during NDMP device discovery and can be opened by a new NDMP session. 4. In most cases, the SCSI Port, Max Bus Speed should be left at the default value. In certain cases, the SCSI bus is noisy and the bus speed negotiation is not performed correctly. This can cause intermittent SCSI bus errors. If this occurs, you can try lowering the bus speed to overcome such errors. 5. Click the Save button to apply the changes to the server. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI scsi commands would be used: Enable/disable SCSI devices using the scsi <device name> (enable disable) command. Change the SCSI port maximum bus speed using the scsi max_bus_speed command.

17 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Enable Fibre Channel Devices If your TapeServer is configured with Fibre Channel interfaces, follow instruction in this section to verify your Fibre Channel tape libraries and drive configuration. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the FC page. Figure 9 Fibre Channel page 2. You should see all the Fibre Channel devices accessible to the TapeServer. The TapeServer will automatically bind all the devices and enable them. Uncheck the Enable checkbox to disable the Fibre Channel devices not to be used by this TapeServer. Consult your network administrator for the proper set of devices to use. 3. By default, the TapeServer will bind by port id. If you want to use the WWN for binding, select Node WWN at the bottom of the page. Note that the current binding of the devices will be lost and new binding will be assigned. 4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to save the configuration. 5. Once a device is bound and enabled it will be reported during NDMP device discovery and can be opened by a new NDMP session. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI fc commands would be used: Enable/disable Fibre Channel devices using the fc <device name> (enable disable) command. Change the port binding using the fc binding command.

18 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Change the Password and HTTP Session Timeout Follow these steps to change the password. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the Access page. Figure 10 Access Configuration Page 2. Enter the current Administrative Password in the Current Password field. (The factory default is "admin123") 3. Enter the new password in the New Password field. 4. Repeat the new password in the Retype field for confirmation. 5. If you want to change the default http session timeout, enter the new value in the Session Timeout (minute) entry box. (Note: For security reasons, the maximum supported value is 600.) 6. Click the Save button to apply the changes to the server. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI password and session_timeout commands would be used: Change the administrative password using the password command. Change the session timeout using the session_timeout command Enable Encryption If your TapeServer is supports encryption (see the technical specifications), follow the instructions in this section to set up your encryption configuration. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select either the SCSI or FC page.

19 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Click the Encrypt checkbox for each drive that requires encryption. 3. Either select Passphrase and enter a passphrase (which the TapeServer will use to generate the encryption key) or select Hexidecimal and enter the 32-byte encryption key itself. Please note that the TapeServer does not store the passphrase nor does it perform any key management. Therefore either the key or the passphrase should be stored in a separate and secure location by the user. 4. Click the Save button to apply the changes to the server. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI encrypt commands would be used: Set the encryption key using the encrypt key or encrypt passphrase command. Turn encryption on/off for tape devices by using the encrypt (all <device>) (on off) command Diagnostic Logging Configuration It is recommended that the Min Severity setting be left at the factory default during normal operation. Changing these settings can degrade TapeServer performance. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click the Monitor tab and select the Log Setup page.

20 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 20 Figure 11 Log Setup Page 2. Leave the Local Log Min Severity set to the factory default ("Info") unless otherwise directed by DinoStor technical support. 3. If a Syslog server is installed on this network, follow these steps to make the TapeServer send diagnostic messages to it: 4. Enter the server name or IP Address for the syslog server. 5. Leave the Min Severity set to the factory default "None" unless otherwise directed by DinoStor technical support. 6. To receive notification of errors detected by the TapeServer: 7. Enter the address for the recipient of the messages. 8. Enter the address that will appear as the sender address. 9. Leave the Min Severity set to the factory default "None" unless otherwise directed by DinoStor technical support. 10. If an SNMP Trap server exists on this network, follow these steps to receive SNMP traps from the TapeServer: 11. Enter the name or IP Address of the Trap Server. 12. Enter the community string. 13. Select the SNMP version (v1 or v2). 14. Leave the Min Severity set to the factory default "None" unless otherwise directed by DinoStor technical support. 15. Click the Save button to apply the changes to the server. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The CLI log_setup command would be used Store the Configuration to a File At this point, setup of the DinoStor TapeServer is complete. It is a good idea to backup the configuration to a file. The backup file is stored on the Administrative Computer. The backed-up configuration file can be used to restore the configuration at any time. 1. With the Administrative User Interface open, click the Configure tab and select the All page.

When prompted with the Save As dialog, browse to the location to store the file, change the file name (if desired), and click Save. 5. When the file download is finished the Download Complete dialog displays. Please note: the previous procedure can be implemented via the CLI as well. The following CLI config commands would be used: Save the TapeServer configuration file to disk using the scp keyword config.

22 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 22 Chapter 4 Administrative Tasks Reference the procedures in this section while installing, configuring, and maintaining the DinoStor TapeServer. 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface A JavaScript enabled browser is required for accessing the Administrative User Interface. Supported browsers are listed in 3.2 Site Preparation. Follow these steps to access the Administrative User Interface: 1. Open a web browser window. 2. Browse to the IP Address of one of the interfaces (set during the IP Address Configuration process above). For example, if the IP addresses were set to and in the previous process, then browse to: or If you cannot remember the IP Address, then use the front panel display to find the address. Alternatively, if you mapped the TapeServer IP address to a host name on the domain (using a Domain Name Server (DNS)), then browse using that host name instead. 3. A login window displays. 4. Type the Administrator's Password and press the Login button. (The factory default is "admin123") 5. Upon successful login, the Administrative User Interface displays. If this is the first time you have logged in after a factory reset, you will be directed to the Configure tab, Network page. Otherwise, you will be directed to the last page you accessed. All administrative pages are available from this interface. 4.2 Access the Command Line Interface (CLI) A secure shell (SSH) client program (such as PuTTY) is required to access the TapeServer CLI ssh commands. A secure copy (scp) client program (such as PSCP) is required to access the TapeServer CLI scp commands. 1. ssh Run an ssh client program on an administrative computer (any computer which has network access to the TapeServer). The username is: admin. The password is: admin123 by default. This password can be modified using the CLI password command. Upon successful login, the login banner displays the TapeServer model number and firmware version. Type help to see the menu of commands. Type logout or exit to exit the CLI session. 2. scp Run an scp client program on an administrative computer (any computer which has network access to the TapeServer). The scp commands are described in detail in the the Command Line Interface section. The username is: admin.

Type logout or exit to exit the CLI session Disable the TapeServer Disabling the TapeServer places it in a state where it can be restarted or reconfigured. When disabled, the TapeServer does not start any new NDMP sessions. It is not required that you disable the TapeServer in order to reconfigure or restart, as these actions are only prevented if active NDMP sessions exist. Follow these steps to disable the TapeServer. Note: This procedure does not power-off the TapeServer. Refer to section 4.6 Shutdown the TapeServer for power-off instructions Disable the TapeServer using the Administrative UI 1. Follow the procedure to start Administrative User Interface. (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 2. Go to the Configure tab and then click the NDMP page. 3. Uncheck the Allow New Sessions option (remove checkmark from the checkbox) and click the Save button. 4. Go to the Monitor tab and then click the Sessions page. 5. If No Sessions Found message displays then the NDMP server is disabled. 6. If any NDMP session IDs are listed, either wait for the sessions to terminate, or terminate them manually by clicking the Kill button for each session. Then, refresh the page and wait until the message No Sessions Found displays; at this point the NDMP server is disabled Disable the TapeServer using the CLI 1. Login to the TapeServer using a secure shell (ssh) login. 2. Type: ndmp allow_new_sessions no. 3. Run the session show command. If session_count is 0, then the TapeServer is disabled. 4. If the session show command listed sessions. Then you can kill the sessions by running the session kill all command. Run the session show command again to confirm that the sessions have been terminated. After the sessions have been terminated, the TapeServer is disabled. 4.4 Enable the TapeServer Enabling the TapeServer puts it in a state where it accepts new NDMP sessions. Note: This procedure can be performed via either the Administrative User Interface or the Command Line Interface Enable Sessions using the Administrative UI Follow these steps to enable the TapeServer. 1. Follow the procedure to start Administrative User Interface. (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 2. Go to the Configure tab and click on the NDMP page 3. Select the Allow New Sessions option (place the checkmark in the checkbox) and click the Save button.

24 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Enable Sessions using the CLI Follow these steps to enable the TapeServer. 1. Login to the TapeServer using a secure shell (ssh) login. 2. Type: ndmp allow_new_sessions yes. 4.5 Reboot the TapeServer This procedure reboots the TapeServer. Follow these steps to reboot the TapeServer. Note: This procedure can be performed via the Administrative User Interface, the Command Line Interface, or the LCD Display Reboot using the Administrative UI Follow the procedure to start Administrative User Interface. (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 1. Follow the procedure to disable the TapeServer. (Reference:4.3 Disable the TapeServer) Proceed to the next step. 2. Go to the Administer tab and click the Shutdown page. 3. Click the Reboot button. 4. Browser connectivity is lost during the server reboot. 5. Wait approximately 2 ½ minutes and then attempt to start Administrative User Interface. (Note: Attempting to start too soon causes a Page Cannot be Displayed error.) (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 6. After login completes, follow the procedure to enable the TapeServer. (Reference: 4.4 Enable the TapeServer) Reboot using the LCD Display 1. Access the LCD display on the front panel of the TapeServer. 2. Press any arrow button to access the TapeServer menu. 3. Use the down arrow button to place the cursor over the Reboot menu and press the check mark button. 4. The reboot confirmation page displays. Reboot? Yes No 5. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the Yes option. Press the check mark button to continue the reboot process. 6. The rebooting notification displays until the TapeServer reboots.

Type: reboot. 4.6 Shutdown the TapeServer This shutdown procedure powers off the TapeServer. Follow these steps to power-off the TapeServer. Note: This procedure can be performed via the Administrative User Interface, the Command Line Interface, or the LCD Display Shutdown using the Administrative UI 1. Follow the procedure to start Administrative User Interface. (Reference: 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface) 2. Follow the procedure to Disable the TapeServer. 3. Go to the Administer tab and click the Shutdown page. 4. Click the Shutdown button. 5. Browser connectivity is lost as the power is removed from the TapeServer. 6. When the system powers off the green LED on the Front Panel turns off Shutdown using the LCD Display 1. Access the LCD display on the front panel of the TapeServer. 2. Press any arrow button to access the TapeServer menu. 3. Use the down arrow button to place the cursor over the Shutdown menu and press the check mark button. 4. The shutdown confirmation page displays. Shutdown? Yes No 5. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the Yes option. Press the check mark button to continue the shutdown process. 6. The Shutting down notification displays until the TapeServer powers off.

Type: shutdown. 4.7 Power-on the TapeServer Note: This procedure requires physical access to the TapeServer. Follow these steps to power-on the TapeServer. 1. Push on the front panel check mark button and hold it for one second. 2. Verify that the LCD display and the LCD control button lights are on. 3. It may take up to 5 minutes for the TapeServer to come up after a power-on. At this point the LCD will display the TapeServer s host name and it should be accessible via the Administrative User Interface. 4. If this is the first time powering-on the TapeServer, follow the instructions in the beginning of this manual to configure the TapeServer. (Reference: 3.1 Configuration Planning) Otherwise, follow the procedure to enable the TapeServer. (Reference: 4.4 Enable the TapeServer) 4.8 Reset Configuration to Factory Settings If it is necessary to reset the configuration to the factory defaults, then follow this procedure. Resetting the configuration to factory defaults will restore the factory defaults of the following items: All network settings All NDMP settings The time zone and NTP settings All log setup settings The administrative password HTTP session timeout Refresh interval in NDMP session monitor page The following items will not be reset: SCSI/FC device state (enable/disable) The system time Note: This procedure can be performed via the Administrative User Interface, the Command Line Interface, or the LCD Display. After resetting the configuration to the factory settings, it will be necessary to perform the IP Address Configuration using the LCD Reset Configuration using the Administrative UI Follow the steps to start the Administrative User Interface. 1. Click on the Configure tab and select the All page.

Use the down arrow button to place the cursor over the Factory Defaults menu and press the check mark button. 4. The reset to factory defaults confirmation page displays. 5. Use the left/right arrow buttons to place the cursor over the Yes option. Press the check mark button to continue the factory reset process. 6. The rebooting notification displays until the TapeServer restarts Reset Configuration using the CLI 1. Login to the TapeServer using a secure shell (ssh) login. 2. Type: reset_to_defaults. 3. Wait for approximately 2 ½ minutes while the factory settings are applied. 4. Follow the steps in the Software Configuration session to reconfigure the TapeServer. (Reference: 3.3 Software Configuration) 4.9 Reset the Administrative Password If the Administrative Password is changed from the factory default and is forgotten, then reset the password. This procedure will reset the password to the factory setting without requiring login. Make sure that you have physical access to the TapeServer. 1. Access the LCD display on the front panel of the TapeServer. 2. Press any arrow button to access the TapeServer menu.

29 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 29 Chapter 5 Overview of the LCD The LCD is used to perform initial configuration of the TapeServer IP Address(es) and Netmask(s) as well as to provide an administrative interface for startup, shutdown, reboot, reset to factory defaults, and password reset. It is the first utility that should be run after the TapeServer has been powered on and connected to a network. Since the TapeServer is shipped from the factory with default IP Addresses , , on net0, net1, and net2 interfaces respectively, it is not possible to access the Administrative User Interface via a web browser until a valid IP Address has been set on at least one of the TapeServer network interfaces. Once the IP Address has been set using the LCD, the Administrative User Interface can be used to further configure the TapeServer. The LCD consists of a 2-line display, up, down, left, right arrow buttons, a check mark button, and an x button. The LCD operates in two different modes: the display mode and the interactive mode. During the display mode, the LCD displays the hostname and the current aggregate data transfer rate under normal operating condition. The data transfer rate is updated every 7 seconds. If the TapeServer hardware monitor detects any problem, the LCD display will display a warning message and the back light on the LCD will flash at a 1 second interval. The LCD switches from the display mode to interactive mode when any LCD button is pressed. The first page of the interactive mode is always the menu page. While the LCD is in interactive mode, the user can perform configuration and maintenance functions using the LCD buttons. After 20 seconds of no activity in interactive mode, the LCD will automatically switch back to display mode. 5.1 LCD Buttons This section explains the buttons on the LCD. The check mark and X buttons are used to power on and off the TapeServer. When the TapeServer is off, pressing and holding the check mark button for one second will power on the TapeServer. When the TapeServer is on, pressing and holding the X button will perform a hard power off of the TapeServer. When the LCD is in the display mode, pressing any button will cause the LCD to enter interactive mode. Once the LCD is in interactive mode, you can use the up, down, left, and right arrow to navigate the cursor on the LCD display. The check mark and X button are used for confirmation and cancellation in interactive mode. 5.2 LCD Screens This section describes the screens on the LCD. The following diagram describes the screen hierarchy.

The user can use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the display to view the following system information: Hostname net0 IP address net1 IP address net2 IP address net3 IP address Drive License Encryption Availability (shows Available if encryption is licensed) Software version Serial Number Show Devices This page displays the devices visible to the TapeServer. The user can use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the display to view currently attached robotic devices and sequential access devices Rescan Devices You can use this page to rescan for devices that has been attached to the TapeServer Set Network The Set Network menu item is used to enter the IP address and netmask configuration for each TapeServer network interface. The first page lists the network interfaces. Once a network interface is selected, the user is presented with one of the following 2 options: Set DHCP? Yes/No. This is presented if DHCP is currently disabled. UnSet DHCP? Yes/No. This is presented if DHCP is currently enabled. If the user chooses to Set DHCP, then DHCP will be enabled for the selected network interface. If not, the user is presented with the currently configured IP address and is allowed to change it. The IP address can be changed by using the left/right arrows buttons to navigate the cursor of the IP address digit and using the up/down arrow buttons to increment/decrement the value. After the IP address is set, the user can navigate the cursor to the down arrow on the lower right corner of the display and press the check mark or down arrow button to get to the subnet mask portion of the screen. Alternatively, the user can press the check mark button while the cursor is over any digit and the display will scroll down to the subnet mask portion of the screen. Here, the user is presented with the currently configured subnet mask and is allowed to change it in the same manner as was described for the IP address. Pressing the check mark button after changing the netmask takes the user to the Save Changes prompt screen. At this point the user must navigate the cursor over the desired action (Save, yes? Or Save, no?). Pressing the check mark button selects that action. Pressing the X button cancels the edit and returns to the netmask edit screen. If the user chooses to save the changes, the Saving screen will be displayed and the display will return to the menu after saving completes successfully. If the changes are not successful, an error message is displayed Set Default Rte The Set Default Rte menu item is used to enter the network gateway and its associated network interface. The user is presented with the configured default route IP address and is allowed to change it. It can be changed by using the left/right arrows buttons to navigate the cursor of the gateway IP address digit and using the up/down arrow buttons to increment/decrement the value. After the

32 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 32 gateway IP address is set, the user can navigate the cursor to the down arrow on the lower right corner of the display and press the check mark or down arrow button to get to the network interface selection portion of the screen. At this point the user is presented with the list of TapeServer network interfaces and is allowed to select one using the left/right arrows. Pressing the check mark button after selecting the network interface takes the user to the Save prompt screen. At this point the user must navigate the cursor over the desired action (Save, yes? Or Save, no?). Pressing the check mark button selects that action. Pressing the X button cancels the edit and returns to the interface selection screen. If the user chooses to save the changes, the Saving screen will be displayed and the display will return to the menu after saving completes successfully. If the changes are not successful, the error message is displayed Reboot The Reboot menu item is used reboot the TapeServer. The user is presented with the Reboot prompt screen. At this point the user must navigate the cursor over the desired action (Reboot, yes? Or Reboot, no?). Pressing the check mark button selects that action. Reset Password The Reset Password menu item is used to reset the administrative password to the factory default value. The factory default value is admin123. The user is presented with the Reset Password prompt screen. At this point the user must navigate the cursor over the desired action (Reset Password, yes? Or Reset Password, no?). Pressing the check mark button selects that action. Pressing the X button cancels the action and returns to the menu Reset to Default The Reset to Defaults menu item is used to set all configurable TapeServer parameters to their factory default values. Refer to 4.8 Reset Configuration to Factory Settings for details of which parameters are changed. The user is presented with the Defaults? prompt screen. At this point the user must navigate the cursor over the desired action (Defaults, yes? Or Defaults, no?). Pressing the check mark button selects that action. Pressing the X button cancels the action and returns to the menu. If resetting to factory defaults is selected, the TapeServer reboots.

33 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 33 Chapter 6 Overview of the Administrative User Interface The Administrative User Interface is used to configure, administer, and monitor the TapeServer. It does not require any special software to run beyond the standard JavaScript enabled web browser. Because it is a web-like interface, users can open multiple browser windows for a particular TapeServer. However, it is not recommended that multiple browser windows be used while configuring or administering the TapeServer, as conflicting requests may cause unexpected results. In addition, opening multiple browser windows to monitor NDMP sessions may result in reduced performance of the TapeServer. The Administrative User Interface can be accessed via either TapeServer network interface IP Address. Note: For instructions on starting the Administrative User Interface, refer to section 4.1 Start Administrative User Interface. When the TapeServer is first accessed (or is accessed after logout), the login page appears. Figure 15 Web Administrative User Interface Login Page The Administrative User Interface is password protected. The default Administrative Password is admin123. Once a user is logged in, they can navigate the different tabs and pages freely. If the user is idle for more than the session timeout value (see for setting this value), the login session will timeout. After session timeout, the user is required to login again. To logout of the Administrative Interface, click the logout icon. 6.1 Administrative User Interface Components This section explains the tabs, pages, and fields of the Administrative User Interface. The Administrative User Interface has three main tabs: Configure, Administer, and Monitor. Each tab is explained in detail in the following sections. Tab Page Description Configure Network Set the network configuration for TapeServer network interfaces. Time Set the current time and time zone on the TapeServer, or configure the use of an NTP Time Server. NDMP Set the NDMP configuration. SCSI Enable/Disable SCSI devices, et SCSI port maximum bus speed, and configure encryption (if supported). This page will only appear if the model supports SCSI.

This page will only appear if the model supports Fibre Channel. Set the password to access the TapeServer Administrative User Interface. Manage the configuration. Save to a file, restore from a file, or reset to factory defaults. Monitor/Manage the active NDMP sessions. View the latest log from the TapeServer. Setup the log behavior of the TapeServer. Four facilities are available: local log, , syslog, and SNMP. Display the current TapeServer system information, including name, serial number, model, version, and uptime. Advanced diagnostics setup. For use at the request of DinoStor technical support only. Restart or power-off the TapeServer. Check the network connectivity between the network interfaces and another server. Upgrade the TapeServer software. Update TapeServer license. 6.2 Configure Tab The screens under the Configure tab allow the user to make permanent configuration changes to the TapeServer. The pages shown under the Configure tab will depend on the licensed component. In the figure below, it shows a SCSI page because the SCSI component is licensed. For models with Fibre Channel licensed, a FC page will appear. The configurable attributes are listed in the following table and explained in detail in this section. 35 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Network The Network page provides an interface to configure the network settings for the DinoStor TapeServer. When the Network page is selected, the current network configuration settings are retrieved from the TapeServer. Changes made on this screen are applied to the TapeServer when the Save button is clicked. Clicking the Save button applies the changes immediately. Changes are retained even after the TapeServer is rebooted. Note: Changing the IP Address and/or Netmask on this page may cause the browser connection to be lost. This operation is not permitted if there are active NDMP sessions. Please perform the procedure to disable the TapeServer before attempting to change the network configuration. (Reference:4.3 Disable the TapeServer) Figure 17: Configure Tab - Network Page The Network page includes the following fields: Name The hostname of the TapeServer. The hostname is presented through syslog and messages. This is a required field. Factory Setting: dinostor DNS: Domain The name of the domain on which the TapeServer is installed. The IP Address of this network interface. This is a required field if DHCP is disabled. Factory Setting: net0: net1: net2: net3: The mask used to determine which subnet this IP Address belongs to. This is a required field if DHCP is disabled. Factory Setting: The MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) of the Ethernet interface. The normal setting of MTU is You can change MTU to a higher number to improve performance. Make sure all the components on the Network (filers, switches, and TapeServer) have the same MTU setting. Otherwise, the performance may degrade. Factory Setting: 1500 Max Value: 9000 Media Access Control Address, a hardware address that uniquely identifies this network interface. Read- Only. Link The current network speed of this interface. The speed can be one of 10Mb/s, 100Mb/s, or 1000Mb/s. Static routes may be added in this section. Enter each route entry and click the Add button. Once added, a route may be removed by clicking the Remove button. Invalid routes will be flagged with an asterisk after this page is saved. Factory Setting: No routes. Destination Subnet Mask Gateway Via Interface The destination IP address. For the default route/gateway, the string default or is accepted here. The subnet mask for the static route. This field is disabled when the destination is default or The IP Address of the gateway. The network interface associated with this route Time The Time page allows the System Administrator to set the time and time zone on the TapeServer. When the Time page is selected, the current configuration is retrieved from the TapeServer. Changes made on this screen are applied to the TapeServer when the Save button

37 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 37 is clicked. Clicking the Save button applies the changes immediately, as well as for any future reboots. The time on the TapeServer is visible outside of the TapeServer via syslog, messages, and SNMP traps (if configured). Please refer to the troubleshooting guide if the time is not updating properly. This is the TCP window size (in kilobytes) used for sending and receiving data from the NDMP data server during backup and restore. In some situations with Network Appliance filers, the TCP window size should be set to 1000 (1 Mbytes) to avoid performance degradation. We recommend that you start with the default value and experiment with increasing window size to achieve optimal performance. Factory Setting: SCSI This page will only be shown if the TapeServer model is enabled for SCSI support. The SCSI page allows the System Administrator to enable, disable, and view the SCSI devices attached to the TapeServer. When the SCSI page is selected, the current configuration is retrieved from the TapeServer. Changes made on this screen are applied to the TapeServer when the Save button is clicked. Clicking the Save button applies the changes immediately, as well as for any future reboots. All of the SCSI devices attached to the TapeServer are listed on this page. The name of the device as well as other identification information is shown. If this TapeServer model supports encryption, then the encryption configuration can also be managed using this page. Note: The TapeServer retains the configuration of the SCSI devices, so some devices may appear even if they are powered off.

42 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 42 Max Bus Speed In most cases, the SCSI Port Max Bus Speed should be left at the default value. In certain cases, the SCSI bus is noisy and the bus speed negotiation is not performed correctly. This can cause intermittent SCSI bus errors. If this occurs, you can try lowering the bus speed to overcome such errors. Set the bus speed to match the tape device speed. For example: LTO1 drives, 80 MB/sec LTO2 drives, 160 MB/sec Changing this value requires the TapeServer to reboot. SCSI Devices Name This is the logical device name of the tape drive or media changer on the TapeServer. Tape drives have device names like: sth0-0c0i1l0. The media changers have names like: sgh0-0c0i0l0. The naming convention for SCSI devices is as follows: sth[host num]-[host id]c[channel]i[id]l[lun] Enable In order to map the logical device name to the physical device, use the following rules: Devices on scsi0 (as labeled on the Back Panel of the TapeServer) have the host id = 0. Devices on scsi1 (as labeled on the Back Panel of the TapeServer) have the host id = 1. Devices with prefix sg are media changers. Devices with prefix st are tape drives. If checked/enabled, the SCSI device is enabled for use by the TapeServer. If not checked/disabled, the SCSI device will not be used by the TapeServer. By default, each discovered SCSI device is enabled. There is no guarantee that disabling the device will prevent the backup server from attempting to access the tape/scsi device. If the persistent binding type has not changed, the enabled/disabled device list will be saved. When pressed, rescans the Fibre Channel for new devices and removed devices. The page refreshes with the new list of devices after the scan is complete. Devices that are already bound will not be affected. Note: This action can only be performed if there are no active NDMP sessions Access The Access page is used for managing the TapeServer Administrative Password. The configuration can be stored to a file on a separate server and restored from that file as well. In addition, the TapeServer configuration can be reset to the factory defaults from this page. Restoring the configuration from a file, or to factory defaults, causes a restart of the TapeServer. Connectivity to the browser is lost after Restoring/Resetting the configuration. If resetting to factory defaults, configure the IP Address for at least one of the network interfaces via the LCD display. (Reference: IP Address Configuration) This operation is not permitted if there are active NDMP sessions. Please perform the procedure to disable the TapeServer before attempting to restore the configuration. (Reference:4.3 Disable the TapeServer) Figure 27: Configure Tab - All Page The All page includes the following fields: Save to File Restore from File Reset to factory defaults Prompts the user with the local file system location in which to store the configuration file. The file is stored on the same computer that the web browser is running on (the Administrative Computer). The locally stored configuration file can be retrieved and loaded onto the TapeServer. The Browse button, when clicked prompts the user with a file system browser on the same computer that the web browser is running on (the Administrative Computer). Click the Restore button to start restoring the configuration. Loads the factory default configuration stored within the TapeServer and changes the configuration. As a result of resetting to factory defaults, the IP Addresses are reset to the factory defaults, therefore configure the IP Address for at least one of the network interfaces via the LCD display before attempting to access the web interface. (Reference: IP Address Configuration)

49 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide Monitor Tab The screens under the Monitor tab allow the user to observe the run-time operation of the TapeServer. The configurable attributes are listed in the following table and explained in detail in this section. Figure 28: Monitor Tab The following table describes the pages in the Monitor tab. Tab Page Description Monitor Sessions Monitor/Manage the active NDMP sessions. Log Log Setup SysInfo Diag View the latest log from the TapeServer. Setup the log behavior of the TapeServer. Three facilities are available: local log, E- mail, and syslog. Display the current TapeServer system information, including name, serial number, model, version, and uptime. Advanced diagnostics setup. For use at the request of DinoStor technical support only Sessions The Sessions page is used to monitor and manage the active NDMP sessions. This page refreshes itself every 20 seconds by default. To change the refresh interval of the page, select the new value in the Refresh Field. Individual NDMP sessions can be terminated by selecting a session and clicking the Kill Selected Sessions button. This page also provides performance information. You can find the overall system CPU and memory usage as well as performance per NDMP session. Sometimes an NDMP session cannot be terminated due to an unexpected SCSI hardware error. For example, this may occur when a tape drive loses power in the middle of an I/O operation. In this case, the terminate session operation might not complete. ID Age State Device Data Server Mover Bytes Xferred Speed The NDMP session ID. The age of this session in the format hh:mm:ss The state of the Mover. Valid states are: IDLE, ACTIVE and HALTED. The logical name of the media changer or tape device. The Data Server (Filer) IP Address. The Mover (TapeServer) IP Address. The number of bytes transferred during this session between the TapeServer and the Data Server. This includes bytes in and bytes out. The transfer rate for this session. The following table defines the fields that are displayed when the mouse is placed anywhere over a particular session in the list of session. DMA Mode Device Type File CPU% Mem% The IP Address of the DMA that started this session. The mode of data transfer. Possible values are: RAW, RDWR, RDONLY. The type of device: Tape or Changer The file number of the file currently being accessed on the tape. The percentage of CPU utilization for this NDMP session. The percentage of total memory utilization for this NDMP session Log The Log page is used to monitor and local log file stored on the TapeServer. The Log page displays the last 1000 lines from the local log. In order to configure the level of detail present in the local log, refer to the Log Setup page.

Min Severity The minimum severity log message which is generated and sent to the syslog server Server The name or IP Address of the server that logs the syslog messages. This is a required field if the Min Severity is not set to None. Sends log messages to an recipient. SNMP The following set of attributes applies to the setup. Min Severity Recipient The minimum severity log message that is generated and sent to the recipient. The address (fully qualified name@domain) of the recipient for the log messages. This is a required field if the Min Severity is not set to None. Sender The address that appears in the sender field of the log messages. This is a required field if the Min Severity is not set to None. Sends log messages as SNMP traps to an SNMP trap server. The following set of attributes applies to the SNMP setup. Min Severity The minimum severity log message that is generated and sent to the Trap Server. This is a required field if the Min Severity is not set to None. Trap Server The name or IP Address of the SNMP Trap Server. Community String SNMP Version The community string that is included in the trap. This is a required field if the Min Severity is not set to None. Either SNMPv1 or SNMPv2. Consult the SNMP Trap Server documentation to determine which version to set here. For each of the log facilities, it is recommended that the Min Severity setting be set as low (less verbose) as possible (Alert, Emergency, or None) during normal operation. Setting this higher (more verbose) can degrade TapeServer performance SysInfo This page contains identification information on the TapeServer. The name, serial number, model number, software version, and uptime for the TapeServer are available from this page. This page also displays status from the hardware monitor.

The software version currently loaded into the TapeServer. The duration that the TapeServer has been running, shown in days, hours, and minutes. This section displays the current status of the hardware components. The following table describes the hardware monitor data. Field CPU1 Temperature CPU2 Temperature Fan Comment Temperature of CPU1. Proper operation range is 1C-65C. If the temperature exceeds this range, the system automatically shuts down. For system with 2 CPUs, this indicates the temperature of the second CPU. It displays N/A for systems without a second CPU. Proper operation range is the same as CPU1 temperature. RPM (revolution per minute) value of each of the fans. The RPM should be around Diag This page contains settings that should only be used by DinoStor TapeServer technical support. Selecting/checking any of the options (and saving) on this page may degrade TapeServer performance. 57 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 57 Chapter 7 Overview of the Command Line Interface The Command Line Interface (CLI) is used to configure, administer, and monitor the TapeServer via a secure shell login as well as via the secure copy command. It can be accessed via any of the TapeServer network interface IP Addresses. The Command Line Interface is password protected. The username is admin and the default password is admin123. The password can be changed via the Administrative User Interface or via the CLI password command. If the user is idle for more than the session timeout value (see for setting this value), the login session will timeout. After session timeout, the user is required to login again. To logout of the CLI, use the logout or exit command. 7.1 Command Line Interface Commands There are two categories of commands in the TapeServer CLI. The first category is secure shell (ssh) commands. These commands are available once the user logs into the TapeServer using an ssh client (such as PuTTY). The ssh commands allow the user to view or modify the TapeServer configuration and to monitor the TapeServer sessions and status. The second category is scp commands. The scp commands are initiated from the user s client computer and use a secure copy (scp) client (such as PSCP). Scp commands are used to transfer files to or from the TapeServer. TapeServer JUNE 2006 EXIT(1) 7.3 scp Commands The TapeServer CLI scp commands can be accessed by using an scp client to connect and transfer files to or from the TapeServer. Note: the scp command is run from a client computer, NOT on the TapeServer. Upon connecting to the TapeServer, the user is prompted for a username and a password. After successful login, the file transfer is initiated automatically config Command Using the config keyword with the scp command allows the user to save or restore the TapeServer configuration file. The TapeServer configuration file should not be edited manually Save the Configuration File This action saves the TapeServer configuration file to a file on the client computer. scp admin@<tapeserver address>:config <local file> where: <TapeServer address> is the IP address or network addressable name of the TapeServer. <local file> is the name of the file on the client computer s file system Restore the Configuration File This action restores the TapeServer configuration from a file on the client computer. This command will transfer the file to the TapeServer and will initiate the upgrade process automatically. The TapeServer software can be downloaded from the support section of the website. This operation is not permitted if there are active NDMP sessions. Please perform the procedure to disable the TapeServer before attempting to upgrade the TapeServer software. (Reference: 4.3 Disable the TapeServer) The TapeServer will be rebooted during this operation. scp <upgrade file> admin@<tapeserver address>:upgrade where:

77 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 77 Chapter 8 Troubleshooting Guide Error: SCSI devices are not appearing on the Configure tab, SCSI page. Resolution: 6. Run the procedure to shutdown the TapeServer. Wait for the LCD on the Front Cover of the TapeServer to be off before continuing. (Note: It is important to have the TapeServer in the powered-off state before connecting/disconnecting any SCSI devices. The SCSI controller within the TapeServer cannot handle hot-plugging devices) 7. Verify that the tape devices and media changer(s) are connected to the TapeServer using ultra 160 LVD cables. 8. Verify that the SCSI connectors have no bent pins. 9. Verify that the connectors are screwed in completely to the back of the TapeServer. 10. Verify that connections are properly terminated. 11. Verify that the tape devices and media changers(s) are all powered on and enabled. Refer to your tape drive or tape library documentation for this procedure. 12. Run the procedure to power-on the TapeServer. (Reference: 4.7 Power-on the TapeServer) Wait for LCD to display the TapeServer name and transfer rate before attempting to access the TapeServer Administrative User Interface. 13. Access the Administrative User Interface. Click on the Configure tab and then select the SCSI page. 14. If everything is connected properly, the SCSI devices should appear. If they do not appear, try clicking the Rescan button to see if that resolves the issue. 15. If the SCSI devices still do not appear, please contact DinoStor technical support. (Reference: 10.3 Contact Information) Error: The time is not set properly after setting up an NTP server. Resolution: 1. Verify that the time zone is configured correctly. 2. Try to ping the NTP server: Navigate to the Administer->Ping page. Type the name or IP address of the NTP server in the ping field and press the Ping button. 3. If the NTP server is reachable via any one of the network interfaces, then it should be able to access it for setting the time. Verify with the NTP source that the NTP server is running properly. 4. If the NTP server is not reachable via any of the network interfaces, then go to the Configure- Network page and verify a default route has been configured. If the NTP server is specified by name, then a DNS server should be configured as well. Error: log messages are not being received. Resolution: 1. Try to ping the SMTP Server: Navigate to the Administer->Ping page. Type the name or IP address of the SMTP server in the ping field and press the Ping button. 2. If the SMTP server is reachable via any one of the network interfaces, then it should be able to use it to send the . Verify with the network administrator that the SMTP server is running properly. 3. If the SMTP server is not reachable via any of the network interfaces, then try the following actions: 4. If the SMTP server is on a different subnet than the TapeServer network interface subnets, go to the Configure-Network page and verify a default route has been configured. 5. If the SMTP server is specified by name, then a DNS server should be configured as well.

78 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 78 Chapter 9 3 rd Party Configuration Guide This section contains instructions for configuring the 3 rd Party software for use with the DinoStor TapeServer. 9.1 Veritas NetBackup Configuring TapeServer with Veritas NetBackup Follow these steps to configure a TapeServer with Veritas NetBackup. First set up NDMP autheintication to the TapeServer using the set_ndmp_attr utility. Type the following: set_ndmp_attr auth TapeServer_ip ndmp_user Where TapeServer_ip is the hostname or IP address of the TapeServer Ndmp_user is the NDMP user set on the TapeServer. You can go to the Configure - NDMP web admin page to see the NDMP user setting. You will be prompt for the NDMP password. Verify that NetBackup can communicate with the TapeServer with the correct NDMP authentication attributes. Use set_ndmp_attr verify TapeServer_ip If you are attaching a media changer device to the TapeServer. Bring up the NetBackup Administration Console, and configure the robot. In the left window select Media and Device management / Devices / Robots. From the top tool bar select Action->New->Robot. NOTE: the Action menu is not selectable until the Robots item has been selected in the left window. Set the following parameters: Device host: set to name of host running NetBackup application Robot type: set to TLD. Robot number: set so the robotic number so there is no conflict with existing robot in your NetBackup environment. Volume database host: set to the volume database host. Robot control: select NDMP. Robot device: Select "..." and enter the media changer handle (eg sgh0-0c0i6l0). You can find the media changer handle in the TapeServer Web Admin GUI ( Configure - SCSI or Configure - FC page). NDMP host name: hostname or IP address of the TapeServer. This should be the same as what s entered in step 1. Select Ok. If you have tape drives attached to the TapeServer, add the tape drives to NetBackup. From the top tool bar of the NetBackup Administration Console, select Action-New-Drive". Set the following parameters: Drive name: enter a name for the drive according to your site naming convention. No rewind device: enter hostname:path where hostname is the hostname or IP address of the TapeServer and path is the device path as appears in the TapeServer Web Admin GUI s Configure - SCSI or Configure - FC page (eg dinostor19:nsth0-0c0i1l0). Drive type: select DLT if you do not have FP3 or later installed for you NetBackup. Otherwise, select the appropriate drive type. Drive status: leave set to UP Drive is in a robotic library: check this box if the drive is in a robotic library. Leave the box unchecked if you are configuring a standalone library. Robotic library: select appropriate library. Robot drive number: select appropriate number based upon the library address for this drive. The 1st drive in the library is drive 1. Select Ok.

79 DinoStor TapeServer User s Guide 79 Once you have your robot and/or tape drives configured, you can set up your Storage Unit. To add a Storage Unit, In the left pane of the NetBackup Administration Console, select Netbackup Management/Storage Units, right click, and select "New storage unit...". Enter the following parameters: Storage unit name: enter Storage Unit name according to your site naming convention. Storage unit type: NDMP Media server: set to your NetBackup Media Server hostname. NDMP host: hostname or IP address of the TapeServer where the tape drives are connected. Robot type: TLD Robot number: set to number assigned to this robot when robot was added Drive density: set to DLT if you do not have Networker 4.5 FP3 or later installed for you NetBackup. Otherwise, select the appropriate drive type. Maximum concurrent drives: set to the number of tape drives you want to allocate for this Storage Unit Select Ok You can start to set up your Policy and start backing up to the TapeServer. 9.2 Legato Networker 6.x Configuring TapeServer with Legato Networker When configuring the DinoStor TapeServer to work with Legato Networker 6.x, the NDMP configuration must be set to specify version 3 for NDMP default version and the port number must be set to If you are using Networker 7.x, you can leave the NDMP default version to 4. With the Administrative User Interface open, click on the Configure tab and select the NDMP page. Set the Default Version# to '3'. Set the Port Number to Click the Save button to apply the changes Configuring Legato Networker with TapeServer When configuring a tape library attached to the DinoStor TapeServer, use the jbconfig command. For a DinoStor TapeServer with multiple tape libraries attached, you will need to run jbconfig separately for each tape library. Currently, jbconfig does not support configuring multiple tape libraries in the same session. The following is a typical jbconfig session. We noted sections requiring special attention. For general jbconfig usage, refer to the Networker documentation. The user input in the following example jbconfig session is in bold italic. Jbconfig Output C:\Program Files\nsr\bin>jbconfig 1) Install a SmartMedia Jukebox. 2) Install an Autodetected SCSI Jukebox. 3) Install an Autodetected NDMP SCSI Jukebox. 4) Install an SJI Jukebox. 5) Install an STL Silo. What kind of Jukebox are you installing? [1] 3 Suggested Response Execute jbconfig from the Networker host. Select Install an Autodetected NDMP SCSI Jukebox. This is option 3.

Suggested Response Enter the TapeServer hostname or IP Address. The TapeServer hostname and IP Address can be accessed from the Administrative User Interface on the Configure tab, Network page. Note: You can only use the hostname if you have mapped it to the IP Address using something like a DNS (Domain Name Server). In this example, the TapeServer hostname is set to dinostor15. Enter the NDMP user name and password set on the TapeServer. The NDMP user name and password on the TapeServer can be set on Administrative User Interface on the Configure tab, NDMP page. Enter the media changer handle as displayed on the TapeServer Administrative User Interface on the Configure tab, SCSI page. Select "2" for NDMP type. First declare the TapeServer in Time Navigator. Select Platform, Create, Host, Ndmp Tape Server in the Time Navigator Administrative Interface. Enter the TapeServer s host name. Select the Protocol tab. First select NDMP. Then enter the TapeServer s NDMP username and password and select 3.0 for version. If a library s media changer is attached to the TapeServer, install a library in Time Navigator. In Time Navigator Administrative Interface, select the TapeServer host and choose Library Create. Select the library attached to the TapeServer. You should see the following screen. Enter a name and set the Device Descriptor (you can get the descriptor from the TapeServer s
