2.2. Uninstall software and leftovers The Software Uninstaller can uninstall almost any software, as well as detect and remove any left-overs other software can t! The Windows Add/Remove Program feature in the control panel has its limitations and can be quite slow. The Software Uninstaller tool included in jv16 PowerTools can both list software not even detected by the Windows Add/Remove Program feature and uninstall software Windows or other software can t. This Software Uninstaller tool doesn t simply rely on the uninstaller of the software you want to remove but instead it uses a custom uninstallation engine that quickly scans your entire system to find all the possible leftover traces of the software you want to get rid of. The Software Uninstaller is designed to do one thing and one thing only: to uninstall software any software even those with their own uninstaller application that failed to do the job.. You can choose to follow step by step uninstall process or you can use one-click uninstall feature. For programs with uninstall issues use Force uninstall with reboot function. See the bottom left corner for uninstalling status. 11
2.3. Control which program starts automatically Startup Manager allows you to see which programs automatically start with your computer and disable the ones you don t really need. Another aspect you will like is the displaying of not only executable files which run at the startup, but also the dynamic libraries being loaded (.dll files). If this option does not interest you, you can simply disable it and display only the.exe files. It is important to be able to control the programs which automatically start. When a new piece of software is installed, it might not even ask you permission to start at the same time as the computer. You will see the consequence of this when the start time increases. You can go through all of your programs one by one and find the option within the settings which stops the program from automatically starting and use many hours to do so. If you are not very familiar with how the computer and the programs on it works, this tool will help you to do what is needed to ensure your computer works more efficiently. Many professionals also prefer to use this tool because it saves them time to do more important things. Automatically starting programs are one of the main culprits in slowing down your computer. The Startup Manager offers a wide range of features which allow you to detect which programs really need to start automatically and which ones can be disabled. If you are not sure of something, searching for more information on the Internet is advisable. 12

Simply open the Speed up my compute's startup and click to enable it and click OK. The next time you start your computer, you will see it start up faster and more efficiently! Enabling the Startup Optimizer integrates the Startup Optimizer code to the Windows startup process to make it faster and smoother. Using the Startup Optimizer doesn t remove anything from your computer. All the software still starts up with your computer and no software is uninstalled. You can also choose to manually set what software to be optimized. 13
2.5. Immunize My Computer The Immunize My Computer allows you to prevent your system from visiting known malicious websites. Prevent ads and malware with Windows hosts file There are many nasty sites around the Internet. These sites are known for having malware and spyware are capable of spreading them around. The best way to avoid going to these sites is by not giving the browser authority to go to these sites. You can block these addresses by adding them to the hosts file. Editing the Windows hosts file for safer online use It can be a long and tedious job to find and add all the malicious sites to the hosts file. This is where the Immunizes my computer becomes handy. The tool picks up an updated list and by clicking Immunize, the tool will then update the information to your computer s hosts file. If the feature has blocked a site that you visit often, you can undo it from the Backups tool. Remember to add the site to the ignore list before immunizing again. 14

Software with known vulnerabilities put your computer at great risk, as they can allow malicious software or other local users to take control of your computer, such as steal your personal data and destroy your important files. Check For Vulnerable Software will detect and inform you of such installed programs so you can then decide what to do. Many common cyber security exploits can be prevented with a regular Check For Vulnerable Software. It is recommended that you periodically check for vulnerable software. Power users may use this chapter to help customize their setup 46
6.1.1 User interface The User Interface panel allows you to change the look of jv16 PowerTools Choose between view or hide gauges from home window, simple or advanced mode interface and font options. Changing the font or User Interface Mode is not recommended. These two settings are offered as-is and changing them can cause cosmetic problems with the user interface, including problems that limit the usability of the program. For instance, if user selects a font that is too big, some elements of the user interface might not be fully visible and text overlapping can occur. 47
6.1.2 User interface details The User Interface Details panel allows you to change many specific items relating to how the product's user interface works. 48
6.1.3 Installation The Installation panel contains information on which directories jv16 PowerTools should use. Please make sure there are sufficient user rights to these directories if the directories are located on a NTFS partition. Note that if you modify the directory paths you must manually copy the directories' contents to the new location if you wish to keep the directories' contents intact. You cannot change where jv16 PowerTools will place its temporary data - the default system temp directory is always used. By default, it is %TEMP%\jv16PT_2017\. If it is not possible to create a sub directory called jv16pt_x there, the root of the Temp directory is used (%TEMP%). Installation Settings The relational paths, such as \Settings\ are relative to the program's installation directory. For example, if you have installed the program to C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2017 the \Settings\ refers to C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2017\Settings. It is not recommended to change these settings unless you have a good reason of doing so. 49
6.1.4 Advanced The Advanced panel contains settings for default file viewer, registry editor, default date format. You can choose to see more information regarding program s activity, set default system restore point creation on major changes applied to the system. Changing the Default file viewer and Registry editor settings are not recommended unless you know what you are doing. Unchecking the option to create System Restore Points is not recommended. 50
6.1.5 Security The Security section allows you to password protect and restrict the usage of the product. With the default setting, all users have unlimited access to the product and there is no password on any level of the program. You can choose to set password when the program starts, when graphical user interface (GUI) is opened (this option allows the use of automated tasks and the Privacy Protector without the password), or before removing data. 51
6.1.6 Backups The Backups panel defines how the backup files will be created. You can choose to always create backups automatically, to be asked before creating backup file, never create backup. Same options for backup description. Backup removal options define whether you want the backups to be deleted by normal file deletion or by a safe file wiping procedure. Wiping a file writes over the file several times with random data so that its contents cannot be reconstructed or recovered. You can control the level of random overwrites in the File Wiping section of the Settings tool. 52
6.1.7 File wiping The File wiping settings allow you to define how many times the data should be written over. The more overwrites the safer. However, as you increase the number of overwrites, you also increase the time it takes to delete the file. All used file buffers are flushed after each write to ensure all the data is actually written to the disk. These settings are used in several tools of the product, such as the Wipe feature of the File tool, Directory tool, and the Disk Wiper tool Abbreviation With this tool, you can modify the way jv16 PT 2017 shows the root key. You can only modify the root key, eg. HKEY_CURRENT_USER to HKCU, or you can modify all parts of the registry path. This can dramatically reduce the space needed to show the registry path information but inexperienced users may find the abbreviated registry paths difficult to read. 53
6.1.9 Preference saving Preferences Saving allows you to save the search settings of File Finder for later use. This enables you to perform multiple similar searches without the need to configure the tool each time you use it. If enabled, the Preferences Saving feature adds a small toolbar to some of jv16 PowerTools' windows.). By selecting it from the drop-down list of the toolbar you have three options: load a previously saved set of preferences, save the current set of preferences, or delete the currently selected previously saved set of preferences Integration with Windows Integration with Windows settings allows you to define in which ways jv16 PowerTools is integrated to the system.
