INTRODUCTION The Labels module provides label format, printer configuration, and label print programs. Your FASPAC system includes generic label formats and a generic printer configuration. Whenever labels are printed and a label format is not specified, the appropriate generic label format is used. All of the generic label formats use the generic printer configuration and generate labels with standard text only. You can create printer configurations and label formats to accommodate your other label needs. LABEL FORMATS New formats can be created using the Label/Printer Format Maintenance program (LA/LFM). An existing label format can be copied and then edited to create a new format. The generic label formats are included on your FASPAC Release. Note: We recommend that you do not edit the generic formats. Label formats are defined using a combination of text, codes, and terms. The codes are displayed on the screen. The terms are listed in Label Interface Dictionary at the end of this manual. PRINTER CONFIGURATION Any label format created that generates labels with standard text only can use the generic printer configuration. In order to print bar code, AIAG, and other labels with special fonts, expanded text or graphics, you must define the appropriate printer using the Printer Configuration Maintenance program (LA/PCM). The name of this printer configuration is then entered as the Printer Type in the label format. Labels can be printed to FARGO and GENERIC printers using the spooler, as long as the printer is configured through the spooler by FASPAC. You can also attach the printer to a network with the appropriate hardware. LABEL PRINT PROGRAMS The Item Shipping Label Print program (LA/ISLP) prints shipping labels for one or all items on a customer order.

The Stock Location Label Print program (LA/SLLA) prints stock location labels for valid locations. The Item Label Print program (LA/ILP) uses the Standard Inventory Management Report Options to print item labels. The Contract Label Print program (SAL/CT/LBL) prints contract item labels for scanned order entry. The Tag Label Print program (INV/TAG/TPR) prints tag labels for one or a range of tags. Allow Printer Change fields in the second screen of Label Application Interface (SYS/LAI) specify whether you will be allowed to change a printer or printer device from the respective label print program. Note: Refer to the System Maintenance Reference Manual in Volume 5 for more information about Label Application Interface (SYS/LAI). If the field is set to Y for the respective label print program (such as ILP), the first time you print a label the current printer type is displayed.

If you want to change the printer type, a complete list of all printer types created in the Printer Configuration Maintenance (LA/PCM) program is displayed. The first printer in the list is always your current printer. Enter Y to select another printer type from the list, or N to accept the current printer. Then the current printer device is displayed.

If you want to change the printer device type, a complete list of all printer devices is displayed. The first device in the list is your current device. Enter Y to select another device from the list, or N to use the current device.

ITEM SHIPPING LABEL PRINT (LA/ISLP) The Item Shipping Label Print program prints shipping labels for all or a specific line item on a specific customer order. The address of the warehouse of the specified customer order must be set up in the Warehouse Address Master File (PO/WAM) in order to print Item Shipping Labels. Item shipping labels can be printed for any order before it is processed in the Invoice Calculation and Update program (AR/INP/INC). To print item shipping labels: 1. Enter the order. 2. Enter a specific line number or select all lines on the order (by entering ALL in the Line No field). 3. Enter a label name. 4. Print a test pattern. (Optional) 5. Specify how the number of labels will be determined, and enter the number of labels. The item shipping labels are printed based on the entry in the Ship Label Type field of the Customer Master File (CP/MAI). If there is no entry in this field, the entry in the Default Shipping Label Name field in the System Maintenance Master File (SYS/LAI) is used. If there is no entry in this field, the ISLP label name is used. If the total quantity attributed to labels is not equal to the Total Line Quantity To Label value, a warning message will be displayed, but can be overridden. Labels will be printed according to the quantities specified in the bottom portion of the screen. Item shipping labels print on the printer specified as the Shipping Label printer on the second screen of Set Printer Assignments. Up to 9999 labels can be printed for each line item. Note: If the field OD-LBL-QTY is defined for a label in the Label/Printer Format Maintenance (LA/LFM) program, some of the prompts in the Item Shipping Label Print program will be different.

Note: If applicable, the first time you print a label the current printer type and printer device will be displayed and can be changed. See page 6.

CONTAINER LABEL PRINTER (LA/CLP) Use this program to print generic bar coded tag labels. The tag number printed on each label is not active in FASPAC, so you can assign it to a container at a later date. The tag labels are used when a new tag must be entered in FASPAC, typically during receiving, repackaging (tag splits), and picking operations. You can use these preprinted tag labels as a backup media if the FASPAC system is down. Warehousing operations can continue by attaching one of these labels to the container and recording the information required to document the transaction. Then you enter this information in FASPAC when the system is operational again. ENTRY/INQUIRY SCREEN Field Label Name Description Enter a name for the generic tag label.

Number of Label to Print Enter the number of labels. The program prints the specified number of labels starting with the next Tag number shown in SYS/CAS. During this process, the program checks that each Tag number is not already being used. If a number is being used, it is skipped and the next number is checked. This process continues until the required number of labels has been printed. SAMPLE GENERIC TAG LABEL Below is an example of a generic 2x2 tag label. Here is the label coding entered in Label/Printer Format Maintenance (LA/LFM) that generated the above sample.

LABEL/PRINTER FORMAT MAINTENANCE (LA/LFM) Use this program to create, edit, and delete label formats that are used throughout FASPAC. Standard label formats, referred to as generic, are included in your FASPAC release. Note: We suggest that you do not edit these generic formats, but instead use them to create your own formats using the Copy function in the Label/Printer Format Maintenance program. If a specific label format is not defined for a particular label, the generic format is used. See the System Maintenance Label Application Interface (SYS/LAI) section for information about setting default label formats. The generic label formats are used for printing labels with standard text only. To print bar code, AIAG, and other labels with special fonts, expanded text, or graphics, you must define the appropriate printer and create a label format. Label formats that include anything other than text must use a printer type defined in the Printer Configuration Maintenance program (LA/PCM). An unlimited number of label formats can be created. Each label format is assigned a name (up to 10 alphanumeric characters) and a printer type. If the generic printer type is not used, the printer type must be defined in the Printer Configuration Maintenance program (LA/PCM). The information that prints on a label is defined line by line in the Sequence # and Print Line fields, using text, field edit, special character codes (as displayed on the screen), and terms in the Label Application Interface Dictionary. You can enter up to 100 lines per label. Note: To assist you in creating label formats, we suggest you print the listing of label formats. The listing can be useful both in creating and editing label formats. A full screen edit is available. All lines of the label format (up to 15 per screen) are displayed. You may scroll up and down the screen using the F3 and F4 function keys. Within the label format the arrow keys can be used to navigate for editing. The main section of the screen contains a summary of the labeling codes for a printer. There are two types of code for a label: printer coding and text coding.

PRINTER CODING Lines of printer coding give formatting/printer commands that do not produce any printed information. The syntax for lines of printer coding requires that each code begins with a pipe character ( ), which tells the printer where one command ends and the next begins. The most commonly used codes are listed below. Code BL J M Description Begin label format (every label must begin with this code) Line Feed (moves the printer head down one line) Carriage Return (moves the printer head back to the left edge of the label) - Continue (means that this line is not the end of the label) H## Px E BO Bf Change amount of heat applied (for bold printing) X = maximum speed for print cycle always a single character (a e or A E) End of Label (every label must end with this code) Beginning Offset the default form edge offset is 1.1 inches Sets the printer to tear off at the right place. This line must go before the BL M J - in the label format (for example, Bf140 BL M J -). The number varies with each printer, and should be changed until the labels stop at the right place. Consider this example of a line of printer coding: BL M J where: BL = Begin Label M = Carriage Return J = Line Feed = Continue Label

TEXT CODING Lines of text coding contain instructions for the orientation, font, location, size, text, or bar code, and codes for the actual information you wish to print. Every line of text, lines, boxes, or bar coding requires the components described in the table below. The first character in a line of text code describes the orientation of the line of print on the label. If the first character is a 1, the printed information will be oriented horizontally, left to right (just like the type on this page). If the first character is a 2, the line of text/bar code will be oriented top to bottom, and so on as described in the chart. CHAR # DESCRIPTION 1 The orientation or rotation of the line of print on the label: 1 horizontal L-R (information prints from left to right; 3 o clock position) 2 vertical T-B (information prints from top to bottom; 6 o clock position) 3 horizontal R-L (information prints from right to left; 9 o clock position) 4 vertical B-T (information prints from bottom to top; 12 o clock position) 2 Font Selected: X For lines or boxes For text lines only, this character determines the font size as follows: 0 96 character alphanumeric font 7 dots high and 5 dots wide character alphanumeric font 9 dots high and 9 dots wide character alphanumeric font 18 dots high and 10 dots wide 3 62 character alphanumeric font 27 dots high and 14 dots wide 4 62 character alphanumeric font 36 dots high and 18 dots wide 5 62 character alphanumeric font 52 dots high and 18 dots wide 6 62 character alphanumeric font 64 dots high and 32 dots wide 7 OCR-A size font 32 dots high and 15 dots wide 8 OCR-B size font 28 dots high and 15 dots wide 9 Internal Triumvirate font. Point size set by number in bar code height For bar codes only, this character identifies the symbology as: A Interleave code 3 of 9 B UPC A C UPC E D Interleave 2 of 5 E Code 128 (B) For bar codes and human readable text of the contents of the bar code. This character identifies the symbology as: A Interleave code 3 of 9 B UPC A C UPC E D Interleave 2 of 5 E Code 128 (B) 3 Allowable values: 1 9 For characters, lines, and boxes: represents the horizontal width multiplier For bar codes: represents the width of the wide bar 4 Allowable values: 1 9 For characters, lines, and boxes: represents the vertical height multiplier For bar codes: represents the width of the narrow bar

5, 6, 7 If the line of text is human readable: 000 If the line of text is bar code: the bar code height (for example, 010 is.10 inches) If character #2 above is 9: selects a text font ( are reserved for internal fonts, and are for other fonts). Refer to the printer documentation for samples. 8, 9, 10, 11 Where to position the row of information in relation to the bottom of the label: 0050 ½ inch from the bottom of the label inch from the bottom of the label 12, 13, 14, 15 Where to position the data column from the left edge of the label: inches from the left edge of the label The actual data that is to print. Note: If code 128 symbology is specified, (the character in column 2 is E or e), the character in column 16 must be a B. If the character I column two is X, the first character in this series has the following special meaning: L Prints a line (a literal line) and requires six numeric characters following the L: first three characters = the horizontal width of the line second three characters = the vertical height of the line B Prints a box and requires 12 numeric characters: first three characters = the length of the top and bottom lines of the box second three characters = length of lines of sides of box third three characters = thickness of top and bottom edges last three characters = thickness of side edges From the 16th character forward, if it is not encoded otherwise, anything appearing on the line will be printed on the label exactly as you put it on the line. If you are going to use Data Identifiers, they (the code) should be placed here, before the bar code. All reference to FASPAC field data is enclosed in braces {IM, DESCRIPTION}. FASPAC Data Fields are found in the Label Data Dictionary. You format the field information in limited ways by including information within the braces and after the data ID, using the format {field ID,x,nn}, where: x the position for the following format code: L Left justify the text field R Right justify the text field T Trim trailing spaces B Leading zeros are blank Z Leave the leading zeros S Suppress the leading zeros nn the field length to print if it is less than the actual field length
