3 Important Notes for All Users No version of ArtiosCAD 14.1 was created. Instead, ArtiosCAD has jumped right to to align with WebCenter for canvas functionality. Esko now provides a knowledge base at This site can be used to find detailed information for ArtiosCAD and other Esko products about many support questions raised to Esko. Flexnet is the only licensing system utilized in ArtiosCAD Users must be prepared to convert the licensing from the hardware key, Sentinel LM or Elan LM to Flexnet. As of Jan 2016, Esko will no longer be able to provide licenses for legacy licensing systems. If the deployed licensing for ArtiosCAD is a network license, the license server *must* be updated with the new system controller provided on the installation media unless upgrading from ArtiosCAD 14. Esko software can be downloaded from with a valid support account. User documentation and help will be available from an online Esko site. Documentation will not be available from the media. The main site is from which ArtiosCAD and other Esko product documentation is available. The ArtiosCAD help menu will bring the user to the ArtiosCAD help page. The most current Adobe Illustrator Esko plugins can be found at Navigate as described below. 3

4 Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 have been certified for use with ArtiosCAD as a standard mouse-controlled application. There are Metro GUI limitations: o The application folder structure organized in previous versions of windows 8 has been flattened. There will be multiple application tiles. o There is no support for touchpads nor touchscreens and any use of gestures is purely coincidental. Windows 7 has been certified for use with ArtiosCAD with limitations. o User Account Control must be disabled before using the Programs and Features control panel to modify or repair an Artioscad 7.6 installation o The 1P stp selection in the File Open preview dialog does not appear the 1P stp time. Once the user starts navigating through the list, the previews will start appearing. o Toolbars in ArtiosCAD: When using the Aero theme, floating toolbar edges are not fully drawn. The Windows 7 snip tool can confuse toolbar location. 4

5 The right side of the monitor appears to have a special function in Windows 7 and it is difficult to dock toolbars to the right side of the ArtiosCAD main window if it is maximized. An ArtiosCAD windows which is smaller than the monitor will allows docking and if the toolbar is already docked, it will stay docked when the ArtiosCAD window is maximized. o The use of AeroPeek seems to confuse USB mice and will unexpectedly move the pointer to unintended locations. o Avoid use of the Windows 7 magnify tool. o Avoid setting the Windows 7 magnification to more than 125%. Beyond this level, the tool icons look a bit fuzzy and the prompts in the dialog bars can be compressed in size as to be rendered useless. The IOServer (ArtiosIO) is now supported on Windows 7 and higher for Artioscad This means older DataTech plotters still using the IPC controller or any device with an RS232 connection will be supported Many users have or are planning to deploy Citrix, Terminal Services (TS) environments or some other application hosting system. Esko has not officially certified ArtiosCAD for use in a Citrix or TS environment, however, Esko does not prevent its use as long as the customer accepts responsibility for deployment and support of the environment. Esko has verified that ArtiosCAD can run as a Citrix or Terminal Services client and has licensed ArtiosCAD appropriately, however, there are some limitations, including but not limited to: Flexnet network licensing must be used. License reservation or denial via floating license servers is not supported. Graphics cards are installed on a Citrix or TS server and ArtiosCAD 3D uses the server card for 3D rendering. The performance of many concurrent 3D users is unknown. The exact server specifications (example, memory, processor) for a given set of clients is unknown. There are essentially no user defaults, since every Citrix or TS client is running from the same Citrix server. There have been reports that access to local devices like hard drives or printers can freeze the machine. It is unknown if these issues have been addressed in newer versions of Citrix. The HASP key used for the Alma PowerNest software in the ArtiosCAD rubbering layout can not be recognized by Citrix or TS and must be used on a client not connected to the Citrix server. 64-bit Citrix has not been tested in any way. Many users are planning to deploy VMWare ESX-based solutions, Hyper V (Windows Server Virtualization), Citrix XenServer or other hypervisor technology. 5

6 Esko has not officially certified ArtiosCAD for use in this environment, however, Esko does not prevent its use as long as the customer accepts responsibility for deployment and support of the environment. Artioscad has been certified for VMware Fusion v5.x for the Mac Intensive 3D is not recommended for VMWare fusion. The rendering mode should be Direct 3D, not OpenGL. For native windows applications, the 3D Rendering Option should be set to OpenGL for full 3D functionality. Use of OpenGL for Bitmaps should also be enabled. 3D graphics cards newer computers often come with some form of switchable graphics technology. This means that there are two or more video cards that switch off doing rendering duties on the system. Because of this, it is entirely possible that ArtiosCAD will be run using the low end, power saving chip. This drastically lowers performance, and may introduce issues when working within ArtiosCAD 3D. It is sometimes also possible that the current chip changes, which can lead to all sorts of stability issues. It is recommended that the user go to the control panel controlling the graphics cards (NVidia Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center) and create a profile for ArtiosCAD so it will use the high end chip always. This is an example and is for windows 7. 6

7 A number of rendering issues with NVidia cards and opengl have been raised. Changes were made to what is believed to be an improvement in the error handling of newer NVidia cards particularly those with dual graphic cards. The default SA password for the SQL Express database will be Oicu812!. InstallShield/SQL Express will adopt the Windows Domain security policy. If this policy is set to strong authentication, administrative passwords must conform to the policy. Oicu812! Is a strong password. This password may be changed by the DBA for security purposes, but until further notice, please note this password will need to be restored to Oicu812! when installing future versions of Artioscad. Also note, please do not use % as character in the password. This restriction is due to the scripting mechanism used to automatically build a database. Since its inception, Artioscad has provided a database schema that has always been backwards compatible with previous versions of Artioscad and 3rd party applications. An ArtiosCAD enterprise edition has now been released and utilizes a new database backend (WebCenter). It is expected that the database functionality for the conventional ArtiosCAD edition will be frozen at its current level. New design 7

8 functionality will continue to be added. It is expected that a single database edition will be created in the future. Artioscad development is making preparations for moving to double precision float values. This would potentially result in a file that is not backwards compatible with earlier versions. The timing of this change is unknown. We do expect that workspaces created in earlier versions would be forwards compatible. The 3D Zoom In/Out tool still exists in Artioscad but is now obsolete. This means this tool may be removed in the future. Users should begin to use the new Pan/Zoom tool. PCIQ fonts will begin to be phased out in the 3D module. Please use true-type fonts. Automatic fold-up of an ARD to populate a 3D file window of the same number only works for U3D when the design file window and the 3D file window are both numbered one, and there are no other 3D file windows. ArtiosCAD Feature Overview Documentation For documentation, click on the online help in ArtiosCAD. General Enhancements The installation media now combines all languages into one. The installer will default to the language of the OS and will present installation screens of the selected language. 8

9 The user can then switch to a different language with subsequent uses of ArtiosCAD 9

10 The installation will now the give the user an opportunity to change the configuration (eg, folder, server names etc) of a previous installation. This means the user can simply accept a previous version s configuration by clicking Next by which the installation will just start. Or, if the Change previous installation settings checkbox is enabled, the user will be allowed to change some information. The media will contain an English SQL Server. If the SQL 2012 Express including Management studio in the installer s native language is desired, it can be downloaded when starting the SQL 2012 Express installer. 10

11 Infrastructure Enhancements Integration Enhancements View Enhancements Design Enhancements ArtiosCAD introduces a new concept for drafting displays or other multipiece packaging. Components or parts of a display may be drafted in a single canvas. When viewing the parts on the canvas, the designer will get the perspective of seeing how the parts relate to each other, but also be able to access each part as an independent ARD. Structural designers have traditionally used ArtiosCAD s ARD file to create multiple contours of geometry that were created as implied parts to a display. The main issue was that these implied parts were part of a single ARD and could not be logically separated. So for example, the board related only to the ARD as did all the attributes. Now the user can treat separate contours of geometry as logical parts with their own board, attributes etc. 11

12 The user can create parts in a traditional ARD and convert the ARD to a new file type, an ArtiosCAD canvas design (.ACD) or create a new canvas file. Parts can be optionally displayed with or without frames: 12

14 Everything lives in a part. Parts can be marked as production or nonproduction. Production parts are those that would be manufacturable. 14

24 Layout Enhancements Manufacturing Enhancements ArtiosCAD continues to support additional BSI components. o Support bars with optional adhesive to help secure the bar along the lower board have been added to support flat top blanking Which will add these parts to the blanking parts list: 3D Enhancemements The Tab in slot tool user-experience (UX) has been improved. The user gets a better visual cue of the selected tab and can see a preview of the part as it might connect to a slot before it is connected. In addition, the cursor will change to different symbols based on the state of the tool and the counterpart of the selected item. 24
