FactoryTalk Historian SE installation and Configuration Guide

CHAPTER 1 Read Me First FactoryTalk Historian SE is a scalable and integrated solution. It redefines the options for manufacturers who want to maximize their ability to collect and analyze process data. Use FactoryTalk Historian to capture data across your enterprise while serving the data to plant applications. This allows for fast and reliable data capture at the controller level and at high speeds and low intervals. FactoryTalk Historian SE provides the capability to collect, store, analyze, and visualize data using a powerful engine and a set of reporting tolls such as time-series trends, bar charts, piecharts, pareto and tabular trends, and an easy method of generating reports using Microsoft Excel. It also uses compressed storage data algorithms to contain a vast amount of data in a small format. You can retrieve the data quickly over a short or long time span. FactoryTalk Historian SE is closely integrated with the following Rockwell Automation s FactoryTalk Services Platform and Applications. FactoryTalk Live Data (FTLD): A direct data interface to FactoryTalk Live Data delivers natively FTLD data directly to Historian without requiring intermediate interfaces and standards such as OPC. FactoryTalk Directory: FactoryTalk Historian uses FactoryTalk Directory to look up data points for configuring points to historize. The directory is also used for autodiscovering controller data sources and tags in the initial configuration process. FactoryTalk Security: By integrating FactoryTalk Historian with FactoryTalk Security, all user and user groups can be maintained centrally, and a single sign-on is fully supported. FactoryTalk Activation: FactoryTalk Historian is activated by Rockwell Automation's central licensing system based on the FactoryTalk Activation Server. FactoryTalk Diagnostics: Because of FactoryTalk Historian's close integration with FactoryTalk Diagnostics, all system and diagnostics messages from FactoryTalk Historian are centrally stored and maintained in the FactoryTalk central Diagnostics database. FactoryTalk Audit: All FactoryTalk Historian server auditing messages are stored and available in the FactoryTalk central Audit database. FactoryTalk View SE Trending: FactoryTalk View Supervisory Edition natively trends data from FactoryTalk Historian. Organization This book contains the following additional chapters: 1

FactoryTalk Services Platform and View Add-On Guide Chapter 2 Security: This chapter covers the FactoryTalk Historian Security groups. Chapter 3 Live Data: This chapter covers the FactoryTalk Live Data Interface that is installed as part of FactoryTalk Historian Server or Historian Interface install. Chapter 4 Diagnostics: This chapter covers the FactoryTalk Diagnostics component of the FactoryTalk Services Platform (FTSP) that FactoryTalk Historian uses to record messages sent by the FactoryTalk Historian Server. Chapter 5 View TrendX: This chapter addresses the basic flow of the FactoryTalk View TrendX configuration. Audience and Expectations This book is intended for experienced professionals who understand their company s business needs, the technical terms used, and software dependencies described in this guide. This document does not provide installation instructions for related components, including other FactoryTalk products, but it does describe configuration settings required to run this software. Other Information Sources Addition documentation can be found on your installation CD under Redist > Docs. Solutions and Technical Support For additional help, contact Rockwell Automation Technical Support at or 2

CHAPTER 2 Security FactoryTalk Historian requires each user to log into the system before using the system. To successfully log in to the system, a user must belong to a FactoryTalk Historian Security group. FactoryTalk Historian automatically creates these groups when it is installed, as well as a generic user account associated to each group. Initially these user accounts do not have a password. To add passwords or to add new users to each group, please refer to the FactoryTalk Security documentation. If you plan to track user IDs in FactoryTalk Diagnostics, you must create identical user IDs in the FactoryTalk Historian Server (PI Server). See FactoryTalk Historian System Management User Guide for information on creating user IDs in the Historian Server. The FactoryTalk Historian security groups created in FactoryTalk Security are as follows: FTHAdministrators have the following privileges: Modify FactoryTalk Historian Server settings - including security (FactoryTalk Historian database tables). Create, modify, and delete point definitions. Read and write any point s historical data set. Add new point data to any points historical data set. FTHEngineers have the following privileges: Create, modify, and delete point definitions. Read and write any point s historical data set. FTHSupervisors have the following privileges: Read any point definition. Read any point s historical data set. Add new point data to any points historical data set. Add, modify, and delete point data. FTHOperators have the following privileges: Read any point definition. Read any point s historical data set. In addition to creating groups, a default user is created in each group. The user name is identical to the group name. For instance, the FTHAdministrator user is a member of the FTHAdministrators group. The FTHAdministrator user is a memeber of the FTHAdministrators, FTHEngineers, FTHSupervisors, and Piadmin groups. Due to the fact that no password is created for the default users. It is recommended to add passwords for each user. It is especially important to create a password for 3

FactoryTalk Services Platform and View Add-On Guide FTHAdministrator to prevent unauthorized personnel from making changes to the server. Logging on to the System FactoryTalk Historian uses the same log on protocols as the rest of FactoryTalk and supports FactoryTalk Security Single Signon. For more information, see FactoryTalk User Guide. 4

CHAPTER 3 Diagnostics FactoryTalk Historian uses the FactoryTalk Diagnostics component of the FactoryTalk Services Platform (FTSP) to record messages sent by the FactoryTalk Historian Server. In the event of an message, the FactoryTalk Server logs the message in the FactoryTalk Diagnostics service. If the FactoryTalk Historian Server cannot connect to the FactoryTalk Diagnostics service, the server will log the messages in the Windows Event log in the mean time and try to reconnect to FactoryTalk Diagnostics service. Once the server reconnects to the FactoryTalk Diagnostics service, a message is logged indicating that some messages may not have been logged and will advise the user to check the local Windows Event log. Message Parameters Each message logged to the FactoryTalk Diagnostics service contains the following information: Date/Time - This is the date and time the message was recorded. The time is the local time for the server. This is important to note if you are in a different time zone than the server. User Name - This is the name of the user that performed or requested an operation that generated the error message. If you plan to track user IDs in FactoryTalk Diagnostics for auditing purposes, you must create identical user IDs in the FactoryTalk Historian Server (PI Server). See FactoryTalk Historian System Management User Guide for information on creating user IDs in the Historian Server. User Description - This is the full name of the user. Severity - Currently the server cannot distinguish types of messages. All messages are logged as Warning. Audience - Currently the server cannot identify different audience types. Engineer is the default audience type for all messages. Message text - This is a description of the error that occurred. Viewing Messages To view the messages in FactoryTalk Diagnostics, run the FactoryTalk Diagnostics Viewer tool. See the FactoryTalk Diagnostics Viewer help for more information on how to use the Viewer to search and filter messages. 5

FactoryTalk Services Platform and View Add-On Guide To view messages stored in the Windows Event Viewer log, go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative tools and click Event Viewer. 6

CHAPTER 4 Live Data FactoryTalk Historian integrates with FactoryTalk Live Data to provide the users with a premier integration platform that archives data from Rockwell's controllers (PLC-5, ControlLogix) with minimal configuration.
