The hardware system setting software, WDS-WIN01 (hereafter referred to as "this product") is produced exclusively for the wireless data acquisition system. Before using this product, check the manual to see if your signal tower model is supported. Review the Software License Agreement and use this product only after acceptance. Prior to installation, read this manual thoroughly before using this product to ensure correct use. Read this manual together with the "Wireless Data Acquisition System (LR5/LR6 Transmitter) Instruction Manual". Re-read this manual before conducting maintenance, inspections, repairs, and so on. If you have any questions about this product, please contact your PATLITE sales representative listed on the back of this manual. 5 1 Before you begin 1.1 About Safety Symbols To prevent injuries to the user and other personnel, as well as to prevent damage to assets, note the following: The following symbols classify warnings and cautions, and describe the level of harm and damage that will occur when the corresponding instructions are ignored. WARNING CAUTION This symbol indicates, "Failure to follow the instructions may lead to death or serious injury." This symbol indicates, "Failure to follow the instructions may lead to injury or property damage." The following symbols classify and describe the content of associated messages. Prohibited Mandatory This symbol identifies "Prohibited" operations that should never be carried out. This symbol identifies "Mandatory" instructions that should always be carried out. This symbol identifies general "Caution" related information. 1.2 Safety Precautions WARNING Prohibited Mandatory The wireless data acquisition system (hereafter referred to as "this system"), attaches to existing machinery and equipment. This system works with signal towers and sends changes in the operation status of signal towers via a wireless transmitter to a receiver that collects the data. Do not use this product for any other purpose. To prevent accidents, do not use this system other than for its intended purpose and do not run operations or maintenance other than those described in this manual. This system is not intended for use where high reliability is required and where human life is involved, such as medical equipment, atomic energy equipment and machinery, aviation and aerospace, transportation, and control of other equipment. If this system is used for these applications, we cannot be held responsible in the event of injury or property damage. Turn off the power before installing any equipment or electric wiring. Failure to follow this instruction could result in electric shock. In places such as aircraft and hospitals, turn off each of these products where usage of wireless devices is prohibited and where its radio waves affect surrounding equipment. We cannot foresee all circumstances concerning the handling and dangers associated with this system. Therefore, not every possible danger is indicated in this instruction manual. To prevent accidents when operating or maintaining each of these products, in addition to the safety guidelines identified in the instructions of this manual, follow all general safety guidelines. 5

6 CAUTION Prohibited Do not use this product in applications that require a high-degree of reliability or real-time performance. If there are communication problems, this product cannot retrieve accurate data. Do not use or store this product in the following locations. Failure to follow this instruction could result in a malfunction or product failure. Environments with poor breathability and ventilation Near equipment that generate strong electrical or strong magnetic fields Places exposed to direct sunlight Locations subject to shock and vibration Near heating appliances Environments where there is dust, iron powder, and so on Places near fire or environments with high temperatures and humidity Locations where the product may experience a drop Locations exposed to salty sea air Mandatory Operate this product only after thorough testing in the customer environment. Although this system has a high level of security, there is the potential for third-parties to intercept communications as this product uses radio waves. When using this system, pay close attention to the following: Due to the nature of radio waves, communication can be disabled even over insignificant distances as a result of noise or other environmental factors. To prevent static electricity, discharge the static electrical charge in your body before starting work. (You can discharge static electricity by touching your hand on grounded metal objects.) About the Operating Environment We have tested the product with out of the box computers in a normal operating environment. However, depending on your operating environment, which includes the computer main unit, peripheral devices and applications in use, there may be cases where this product will not run properly. The software copyrights are held by our company. Do not use this software in other products, or duplicate or modify a portion or all the software without prior written permission. Disposing this product When disposing of this product, follow the rules and regulations on how to handle recyclable materials as outlined in your community. CAUTION Operations on touch panels or tablets cannot be ensured. You cannot install the application or output data collection files to network drives and external storage devices such as SD cards and USB memory. Data collection does not work properly when screen saver, sleep, or standby mode functions are running. 11

12 2.5 About license authentication Except for some functions, this product requires license authentication. A license card with a 17-digit license code is provided in paid versions of WDS-WIN01. The steps for license authentication are described in "6.2.1 License authentication". Store the license card for safe keeping. CAUTION After uninstalling this product, license authentication is required when re-installing. 12

18 5 Installation This manual uses Windows 10 in the example procedures. 5.1 Installing CAUTION When installing this product, the logged in user must be set up with Administrator user rights. (1) Installing WDS-WIN01 The following steps describe how to install this product. 1. Double-click setup.exe. 2. If the User Account Control window displays, click [Yes]. 3. Click [OK]. 18

19 4. Click [Next]. 5. Define the installation folder and click [Next]. To change the installation folder, click [Browse]. Define the folder and click [OK]. 19

20 6. Select whether to create a shortcut on the desktop, and click [Next]. 7. Click [Install]. 8. Wait until installation is [Complete]. 20

21 9. Click [Finish]. 10. When you select to create an icon on the desktop, a shortcut is created on the desktop. 11. Complete 21

22 (2) Install USB drivers (when using USB connection) CAUTION Depending on the operating system you are using (other than Windows 10), a USB driver may be required. USB drivers are stored in the installation folder (refer to 5.1(1)) path "\patlite\wds-win01\usb_driver". The following describes the installation process on Windows Connect the WDR to the computer with a USB cable. 2. Open the Windows [Device Manager] screen. From [Other devices], double-click [CDC RS-232 Emulation]. 22

23 3. Click [Update Driver]. 4. Click [Browse my computer for driver software]. 5. Select the USB driver destination (folder defined in section [5.1(1)5]) and click [Next]. 23

24 6. Click [Install]. 7. Installation starts up. Click [Close]. 8. Complete 24

25 5.2 Uninstalling CAUTION When uninstalling this product, the logged in user must be set up with Administrator user rights. The following steps describe how to uninstall this product. 1. From the taskbar, click [Start]. 2. From the [Start] menu, click [Settings]. 3. From the [Settings] menu, click [System]. 25

26 4. From the [System] menu, click [Apps and Features]. 5. Locate [WDS-WIN01] and click it. 6. Click [Uninstall]. 7. Click [Yes]. 26

27 8. Wait until the uninstall process is complete. 9. Click [OK]. 10. Complete (Restarting your computer is unnecessary.) 5.3 Starting WDS-WIN01 (1) When you created a shortcut icon on the desktop 1. Double-click the shortcut icon. 2. The screen as shown on the right appears for a few moments. 27

28 3. The Top page appears. 4. Complete (2) When there is no shortcut icon on the desktop 1. Start the application from the Windows Start menu. 5.4 Exiting WDS-WIN01 1. From the Top menu, click [Close]. 2. Click [Yes]. 3. Complete 28

29 5.5 Changing the display language 1. These instructions describe changing the display language from English to Japanese. From the Top menu, click [Language settings]. * The procedure describes how to change to English, but you can also use this to change to other languages. 2. From the list select [Japanese]. 3. Click [Change]. 29

30 4. The application exits and restarts, then the Top page appears in Japanese. 5. Complete CAUTION The language configuration for your operating system affects the default display language. For Japanese operating systems, displays Japanese. Other language operating systems, displays English. After changing the display language, the application will start up in the selected language. 30

31 6 Operation 6.1 WDT/WDR settings WDR network settings (1) Set up the computer's IP address. 1. From the Windows [Start] menu, click [Settings]. 2. From the [Settings] menu, click [Network & Internet]. 3. From the [View network status and tasks] menu, click [Change adapter options]. 31

32 4. Double-click the WDR connection, either [Ethernet] or [Local Area Connection]. 5. Click [Properties]. 32

33 6. Select [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)]. Click [Properties]. 7. Enter the following settings. IP address Subnet mask Default gateway * When connecting to WDR for the first time, set the following: IP address * (replace asterisk * with any value other than 1) Subnet mask Default gateway * Determine beforehand the settings you plan to use at run time. Click [OK]. 8. Complete 33

34 (2) Set up the WDR IP address. 1. Connect the WDR to the computer with a LAN cable. For the connection process, refer to "2.3(1)System Configuration". 2. From the Top menu, click [WDT/WDR settings]. 3. From [Use with LAN], click [WDR IP address settings]. 4. Enter the current IP address of the connected WDR. When setting up the WDR for the first time, enter for the initial IP address. After entering the address, click [Start browser]. 34

35 5. The browser starts up and the access control window will appear. As user names and passwords are not set up, input is unnecessary. Click [OK]. 6. The [XPort ] browser appears. As shown in the image to the right, click [Network]. 7. The [Network Settings] screen appears. In the [Use the following IP configuration] properties, enter: [IP Address] [Subnet Mask] Enter the following settings as required. [Default Gateway] [DNS Server] When unnecessary, enter in the corresponding field. For information on settings refer to "7.1.2 WDR settings (computer connection settings)". Click [OK]. 35

36 8. You can change the port number by following the steps below. * Normally, change is unnecessary. Skip to step 10 if you are not changing the port number. Click [Connection]. 9. The [Connection] screen appears. In the [Local Port] field enter the desired port number. Click [OK]. 10. Confirm the various changes. From the menu, click [Apply Settings]. 11. Click [OK]. 36

37 12. Click [X] to close the browser. 13. Click [Back]. 14. Complete WDT setup NOTICE For information on wireless channels, groups, ExtendedPanID, and MAC addresses, refer to section "6.1 Before Installation" in the "Wireless Data Acquisition System (LR5/LR6 Transmitter) Instruction Manual". CAUTION Mandatory When the WDT ExtendedPanID is , it is grouped with WDR that have ExtendedPanID set arbitrarily. In this scenario, because the grouped wireless network is unstable, set any value other than during configuration. When collecting data with this product, set WDT [Transmission mode] = [Immediate transmission]. 37

38 (1) When using LAN connection 1. * Connect and power on the WDR and WDT as per the system configuration. Refer to "2.3(1)System Configuration". From the Top menu, click [WDT/WDR settings]. 2. From [Use with LAN], click [WDT/WDR settings]. 3. Enter the current IP address of the connected WDR. When you have not changed the WDR IP address from its default setting, enter If you did not change the port number [see section (2)], do not change its default value of If you changed the port number [see section (2)], enter that port number. Click [Next]. 38

39 4. In the [WDT settings], the [WDT list] shows the currently connected WDT. * It may take about 10 seconds to display the WDT list. Select the check boxes of WDT to set up, and click [Select to configure]. 5. Set up the selected WDT. [ExtendedPanID] [Frequency Channel] [Determine Signal Tower Input] [Power supply settings] [Transmission mode] Set up the respective settings above. * When used with this product, set [Transmission mode] = [Immediate transmission]. For information on settings refer to "7.1.1 WDT settings". After setup and selection is complete, click [Change settings]. The settings are written to the WDT. 6. Complete 39

40 (2) When using USB connection 1. * Connect and power on the WDR and WDT as per the system configuration. Refer to "2.3(1)System Configuration". From the Top menu, click [WDT/WDR settings]. 2. From [Use with USB], click [WDT/WDR settings]. 3. Click [Update COM port list]. COM port numbers display in a pull-down list. From the menu, select the WDR COM port and click [Next]. 4. In the [WDT settings], the [WDT list] shows the currently connected WDT. * It may take about 10 seconds to display the WDT list. Select the check boxes of WDT to set up, and click [Select to configure]. 40

41 5. Set up the selected WDT. [ExtendedPanID] [Frequency Channel] [Determine Signal Tower Input] [Power supply settings] [Transmission mode] Set up the respective settings above. * When used with this product, set [Transmission mode] = [Immediate transmission]. * For information on settings refer to "7.1.1 WDT settings". After setup and selection is complete, click [Change settings]. The settings are written to the WDT. 6. Complete 41

42 6.1.3 WDR setup CAUTION Prohibited When there are multiple WDR in your system, do not use duplicate ExtendedPanID values. The product may not operate properly. (1) When using LAN connection 1. From the Top menu, click [WDT/WDR settings]. 2. From [Use with LAN], click [WDT/WDR settings]. 3. Enter the current IP address of the connected WDR. When you have not changed the WDR IP address from its default setting, enter If you did not change the port number [section (2)], do not change its default value of If you changed the port number [section (2)], enter that port number. Click [Next]. 42

43 4. Set up the WDR settings. [ExtendedPanID] [Frequency Channel] Set up the respective settings above. [Network connection] Set to [Auto start (recommended)]. If entering all of the settings is complete click [Change settings]. * For settings information, refer to "7.1.3 WDR settings (Wireless settings)". 5. Complete 43

44 (2) When using USB connection 1. From the Top menu, click [WDT/WDR settings]. 2. From [Use with USB], click [WDT/WDR settings]. 3. Click [Update COM port list]. COM port numbers display in a pull-down list. From the menu, select the WDR COM port and click [Next]. 4. Set up the WDR settings. [ExtendedPanID] [Frequency Channel] Set up the respective settings above. From [Network connection] select [Auto start (recommended)]. After setup and input is complete, click [Change settings]. * For settings information, refer to "7.1.3 WDR settings (Wireless settings)". 5. Complete 44

45 6.2 Data collection License authentication Store the license card for safe keeping. CAUTION After uninstalling this product, license authentication is required when re-installing. 1. From the Top menu, click [Data collection]. 2. Run license authentication. Enter the 17 digit license key provided with this product and click [Authentication]. 3. Complete 45

46 6.2.2 Data save destination and CSV file format settings (1) Setting the data save destination CAUTION You cannot output data collection files to network drives and external storage devices such as SD cards and USB memory. 1. From the Top menu, click [Data collection]. 2. Set up the save destination for CSV data. From [Initial settings] click [Select folder]. 46

47 3. Define the destination folder. Click [OK]. 4. Complete (2) CSV file format settings 1. From [Data collection operation] click [CSV file settings]. 47

48 2. Select [File creation method]. [Common] [Common (file name)] [Per WDR] [Per WDT] Select one from above. Select [File division method]. [Divide by date] [Divide by time] [Divide by file size] [Do not divide] Select one from above. * For settings information, refer to "7.2.1 Initial settings (save as CSV file)". 3. Create the [CSV file format]. From the 10 pull-down lists select the items for the CSV data. Select to enable or disable [Correct the time]. Check mark is enabled. Blank is disabled. * For settings information, refer to "7.2.1 Initial settings (save as CSV file)". 4. After setup is complete, click [Save]. 48

96 9 Troubleshooting 9.1 Troubleshooting Check the following.if you have any questions about this product, please contact our service and repair desk listed on the back of this manual. If you specify a folder without access privileges, the application will not start up. Check the security settings and firewall settings of the computer where the application is installed. Install the font as described below. Display language Font Japanese MS UI Gothic 03 In the [Language settings], even though the display language is changed, continues to display in English. English Simplified Chinese Arial SimSun Traditional Chinese MingLiU Korean BatangChe Thai Arial Indonesian Arial Spanish Arial 04 WDR is not recognized. Check that the cable is connected properly, and that power is being supplied. On the computer where you are connecting the WDR, check the security settings and firewall settings The setting on the WDR IP address setting screen displays as "undefined", and the settings are not reflected. In the WDR settings, cannot get and cannot set the WDR information. When data collection is activated, the license authentication screen displays and data collection will not start. Depending on the Internet Explorer version, the screen may not display properly. Enable the Internet Explorer compatibility display and try changing the settings. Check that the cable is connected properly, and that power is being supplied. On the computer where you are connecting the WDR, check the security settings and firewall settings. Data collection is a feature available only on the paid version. Please purchase a separate license key. 96

97 Number Issue Checklist On the [WDT/WDR settings] screen's [WDT list], there are no WDT. In the WDT settings, cannot get and cannot set the WDT information. CSV data is not generated and data collection is not possible. Click the [Refresh WDT list] button and check again after the WDT list is updated. Check if the WDT is connected properly. Check that the WDT is connected properly, and that power is being supplied to the WDT. Check if the WDR and WDT are connected properly. Check if the WDR from which you want to collect data is selected. Check if the CSV file destination folder is deleted or folder name has changed. 11 WDT information is not recorded in CSV data. Check whether or not the WDT indicator light is red. 12 When reading CSV data with other software the characters are garbled. The CSV data is saved in Unicode (UTF-8) format. You cannot run multiple instances of this product. Exit the application before starting it again. An error of unknown origin may have occurred. Close this product and try restarting. An internal processing error may have occurred in this product. Restart this product, and if the error continues re-install this product. This product may not have closed properly. If the error appears frequently, re-install this product. The language file may be damaged. Close this product and try restarting. If the error continues, re-install this product. 06 Failed to establish WDR connection. Check if the WDR is connected properly. 07 Unable to identify COM port. Check if the WDR is recognized by the computer. 08 Failed to coordinate with WDT. 09 Error occurred in setting the WDR. 10 Failed to get WDT information. 11 Error occurred in setting the WDT. 12 Failed to get operation setting data.
