1 The following is a quick of step by step basic guide that you need to follow in setting new ekey net system. Detail instructions and additional info can be found on the CD in the doc_en folder. 1) Install ekey net access scanner, control unit, LAN converter, and or the Wiegand converter apply to your system and as per installation instructions. Meaning in the same network: a) Server - Certain components of the ekey net software should be installed on one computer only that will act as a server from ekey net point of view to manage ekey net database. b) Client - Other components of the software can be installed on any number of the computers that will act as client to communicate with server for updating the ekey net database. 2) Choose a computer where you will be installing the ekey net software. we will refer to this computer as the server 3) ekey net is compatible with the following operating systems: a) Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 b) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 (and SBS 2003) c) Microsoft Windows Server 2008 d) Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 e) Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 f) Microsoft Windows Vista Business SP1 g) Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise SP1 h) Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 i) MS Windows 7 (all versions) j) MS Windows 8 NOTE: 1 P a g e

2 THE OPERATION OF EKEY NET ON VIRTUAL MACHINES (E.G. VM-WARE) IS NOT SUPPORTED. 4) Disable windows firewall and any other firewall or virus protection program 5) Check your CD version, if it is older than then download the latest version from then select Software from the menu on the left-hand; document #301. Please or call (941) for username & password access codes. 6) To start installation: a) either inserts ekey net CD and Autorun with start setup.exe ; b) or If you downloaded new version click on setup.exe 7) In the Setup Type screen select the appropriate option for installing the system as server, client, or demo. If this is new installation you will need to enter the Licenses ID that you received from ekeyusa. If you are upgrading from ekey net version 3, the Key File option will be enabled that will allow you to navigate to the.kfu file that you received from ekleyusa as part of the upgrade process. 8) Follow instructions on the screen until you reach Custom Setup 9) In the Custom Setup you need to select the server component installation. So you need to click on some of the disabled components and enable them by selecting This feature will be installed on local hard drive to install the server as shown in the below two images. NOTE: DO NOT SELECT OR INSTALL CURSORFILL THIS SERVICE IS USED AS A SIMPLE INTERFACE TO THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE FOR INSERTING USER ID INTO THE CURSOR FIELD ON THE DESKTOP. THIS FUNCTION IS COMPARABLE WITH A BARCODE SCANNER THAT INSERTS THE NUMBER INTO THE CURSOR FIELD AFTER READING THE BARCODE. 2 P a g e

All system data (personal data, terminal data, access data, etc.) is stored here centrally. Takes care of the allocation of access data from ekey net Masterserver to the devices and back, monitors the devices, etc.. Lists existing ekey net CV LAN found in the local network and enables the configuration and update of individual ekey net CV LAN. A software to update the firmware of the devices (ekey net CP, ekey net CV WIEG and ekey net FP). Monitor and restart individual ekey net services: ekey net Communicationserver; ekey net Masterserver; ekey net Terminalserver computer). This program can be installed on any desired number of computers (Server or client computer). Only one ekey net Masterserver may be active for each ekey net installation (Server computer only). Any desired number of ekey net Terminalservers can be active for each installation (Server or Client computer). Server or Client computer Server and Client computer Automatically installed ekey CursorFill Not used Do not install 10) Next key step is the ekey TerminalServer screen. Here we need the computer name (unqualified HOSTNAME) where the ekey net software is being installed. You check the computer name either by using the command line host name or control panel computer name a) Start All Programs Accessories Command Prompt ipconfig /all b) Start Control Panel System Properties Change Computer Name c) You need to enter the computer name in the windows as shown below. 3 P a g e

4 d) If the computer name is valid and was able to be resolved the ekey TerminalServer bottom status indicator will turn green as shown below. e) Click on close to continue 11) Continue following the instruction on the screen to finish 12) After completing the software installation, you need to Configuration of the ekey CONVERTER LAN as follows: a) One of the software components that is installed automatically is ekey Service Guard that monitors others ekey services components. This services has to be stopped when ekey CONVERTER LAN and ekey Module update are running; and restarted back when finish. This service is can be stopped and started either by the ekey TerminalServer program r by accessing windows administrative tools and running the services.msc 4 P a g e

5 b) Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey net Terminal Server l click on stop to stop the terminal server c) Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey CONVERTER LAN config. NOTE: IF YOU ARE CONFIGURING MORE THAN ONE LAN CONVERTER, YOU NEED TO CONNECT ONE LAN CONVERTER TO NETWORK AT A TIME; OTHERWISE COMMUNICATION WITH THE LAN CONVERTER WILL FAIL AS YOU WILL HAVE MULTIPLE DEVICES WITH THE SAME STATIC IP ADDRESS. d) You will get screen as shown below. This is where you can assign static IP address for the LAN converter and update its firmware if need. NOTE: BEFORE YOU START FIRMWARE UPDATE, ENSURE THE FOLLOWINGS: STABLE NETWORK CONNECTION (PREFERABLE WIRED CONNECTION). THE DEVICE WILL BE DAMAGED IF NETWORK CONNECTION IS LOST DURING FIRMWARE UPDATE. YOU HAVE ONLY ONE ENABLED AND ACTIVE NETWORK ADAPTER. ALL OTHER NETWORK ADAPTERS SHOULD BE DISABLED i) If the converter info is displayed in RED than the LAN converter current IP address is on different sub-net or the firewall is blocking ekey UDP communication on ports range You need to assign it new static IP on your network with the same subnet or stop the firewall. when you assign IP address leave the default Sub-net and default gate way P a g e

6 ii) Check firmware version. If the update button is enabled than the converter firmware needs update. Click on update button to download the latest firmware to the LAN converter. iii) Check if ekey can communicate UDP over ports range by performing PORT SCAN. Select the LAN converter by clicking on the LAN converter IP address, click on PORT SCAN button, type the IP address and then click on CHECK button. Make sure the check of each UDP port is OK as per the image below 6 P a g e

7 13) DO NOT GO BEYOND THIS STEP UNTIL YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE LAN CONFIGURATION; ASSIGNED STATIC IP FOR EACH CONVERTER, AND PORT SCAN. 14) Now it is time to check the scanners and control units firmware versions. a) Make sure ekey net TerminalServer is not running i) Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey net Terminal Server l click on stop to stop the terminal server NOTE: in ekey net a new service called ekey Service Guard is introduced that monitors others ekey services components. This services has to be stopped when ekey CONVERTER LAN and ekey Module update are running; and restarted back when finish. This service is stopped by accessing windows administrative tools and running the services.msc b) Start All Programs ekey ekey net Moduleupdate Connection 7 P a g e 4-A

8 3 5 4-A 4 6 c) Enter the IP address for each converter. 3 d) Search for the devices assigned to the converter. 4 e) Check, compare, and decide if the reported firmware version of each device is old and can be updated; f) To update a device firmware, click on and select the device from the Available Modules drop menu. 5 4-A g) Click on connect and decide whether the device firmware is older than the available version for update. Do not downgrade or replace the device version. Update only when the device version is older. h) If update is needed, then click the update button NOTE: BEFORE YOU START FIRMWARE UPDATE, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON STABLE WIRED NETWORK CONNECTION. DEVICE WILL BE DAMAGED IF NETWORK CONNECTION IS LOST DURING FIRMWARE UPDATE. i) For additional info refer to ekey_net_4.0_user_guide_en_ _v1.2.pdf manual found on the CD doc_engl folder. 15) DO NOT GO BEYOND THIS STEP UNTIL YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY CHECKED EACH DEVICE IN THE NETWORK. 16) At this point you can generate a documentation of the your network devices by running Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey net Install 17) Now it is time to start the ekey net admin program and configure the administration client software a) Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey net Terminal Server l click on START to start the terminal server b) Start Run services.msc ekey Service Guard start c) Start All Programs ekey ekey net ekey net Admin 6 8 P a g e

9 d) If checked, Uncheck the demo box e) Enter the computer name as entered earlier in the TerminalServer f) Enter the below default administrator and password (case sensitive): i) Administrator: Administrator ii) Password: admin NOTE #1 g) Follow instruction on the screen for setup wizard. For additional info refer to ekey_net_4.0_user_guide_en_ _v1.2.pdf manual found on the CD doc_engl folder. Note: After going through the wizard for defining all terminals and users, you need to define the authorization by linking each user or user group to the specific terminal or terminal group. h) Before testing the enrolled finger on the access scanner, you need to reset the Control unit by pressing the left arrow and then the right arrow on the control unit i) After completing all the wizard steps to define all terminals in the system, you need to setup the recovery status for each scanner after power fail as follows: 9 P a g e

10 i) Select each scanner in the system by double clicking on the scanner icon. ii) in the scanner properties, locate the Power-On-Rest field iii) In the drop down menu select the associated control panel to activate after power recovery j) For additional info refer to ekey_tocanet_step_by_step_3.0.0_enu.pdf manual found on the CD doc_engl folder. 18) Wiegand specific notes: a) Turn on Wiegand-ID option found under menu item Basic Setting Options 10 P a g e

12 19) Enable logging a) Select logging data format found under menu item Basic Setting Logging b) Specify log file location on the server. This could be any valid file location and name c) After saving your new changes, double click on the Logging Data label header to test writing to the log file 12 P a g e

13 20) Any changes to the database will not take effects unless sent to terminals Send changes to Terminals 21) Once you finish setting up your system in the ekey net admin and are able to use the ekey fingerprint scanner to open door or do what you have setup to do, you can turn on back the firewall and antivirus. But first you need open and add the following exceptions. a) Open UDP port and b) ekey CommunicationServer.exe c) Configuration of ekey CONVERTER LAN d) ekey netmasterserver.exe e) ekey netterminalserver.exe 22) ekey net requires license key for the operation of fingerprint scanners. The License Manager is used to manage license keys for the ekey net. The License Manager is automatically installed on the Server / Computer, and is also installed on the ekey net Master Server. Note: Editing licenses (adding, activating, importing ) in ekey net is always performed on the PC / Server, on which the ekey net Master Server installed!!! 13 P a g e

15 Moving ekey net Database to Different Computer 1. On the existing Server 1.1. Stop ekey Service on the existing Server. a. Navigate to windows services Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Services b. Locate and stop ekey Services ekey Service Guard Action Properties Stop ekey CommunicationServer Action Properties Stop ekey net MasterServer Action Properties Stop ekey net TerminalServer Action Properties Stop 1.2. Navigate to C:\ekey net DB Locate and Backup ekey net.netdata file. This file contains all configuration data for the terminals and users groups including access rights, time frames, calendars, and fingerprint templates. NOTE: EKEYNET DATABASE CAN EXIST AND RUN ON A SINGLE COMPUTER/SERVER) ONLY. EXTRA ATTENTION IS NEEDED WHEN THE DATABASE IS MOVED TO DIFFERENT COMPUTER SO THAT ONLY ONE THE TWO COMPUTERS SHOULD HAVE THE EKEY SERVICES RUNNING As the existing Server should not be used any more, ekey net should be either uninstalled or ekey Services should be disable to avoid conflicts with the new Server a. ekey Service Guard Action Properties Startup Type Disabled b. ekey CommunicationServer Action Properties Startup Type Disabled c. ekey net MasterServer Action Properties Startup Type Disabled d. ekey net TerminalServer Action Properties Startup Type Disabled 2. On the new Server 2.1. If ekey net is not installed on the new Server install it as completely new installation 2.2. Stop ekey Services on the new Server by navigating to windows services and stopping: ekey Service Guard; ekey CommunicationServer; ekey net MasterServer; & and ekey net TerminalServer 2.3. Navigate to C:\ekey net DB Locate and rename ekey net.netdata file as save-mmddyy-ekeynet.netdata (replace mmddyy with current date) 2.5. Restore the ekey net.netdata file from the first step existing server 2.6. Start again the ekey CommunicationServer ekey net MasterServer Do not start ekey net TerminalServer. This services will start later after changing the host name in ekey admin 2.8. Start ekey net Admin program 2.9. Navigate to the Terminals group on the top menu and locate the host name in Terminal Group In the Host field name replace the existing host name (which was the old computer name) with the new Server name (which is the new computer name) Start ekey net Admin. If it was started already, then Stop it and Re-start it again In ekey net admin click on Send Changes to Terminals button on the menu ribbon. NOTE: BY NOW ALL TERMINAL STRUCTURES (TERMINAL SERVER, LAN CONVERTER, CONTROL UNITS, AND SCANNER) IN THE EKEY NET ADMIN SHOULD ONLINE. IF ANY OF THESE COMPONENTS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WIT RED, THAN THE SYSTEM IS FAILING AT THAT LEVEL! DOUBLE CHECK THE CONFIGURATION BEFORE PROCEEDING At this stage the ekey net database is transferred and ready to be used on the new system. 15 P a g e

16 NOTE #1 If you get an error stating that ekey net Masterserver not started or No connection to ekey netmasterserver This means that ekey netmasterserver did start automatically. This is a known problem in with certain windows version. While ekey is working in fixing this problem, please do the following to avoid this problem. 1) Open the notepad: Start All Programs Accessories Notepad 2) Type the following two lines echo off "C:\Program Files\ekey\ekey net\ekeynetmasterserver.exe" s 3) Save the file and name it ekey_start.bat 4) Copy the newly saved file ekey_start.bat in the following directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup 5) Restart your computer 6) Open windows service Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Services 7) Check and ensure that all ekey services as listed below are running ekey BIT service ekey Communicationserver ekey Service Guard (if available) ekey net Masterserver ekey net Terminalserver 16 P a g e
