5 Preparation 3 (14) 1 Preparation 1.1 About This Document This document describes how to install the.net bridge and provide a basic understanding of how to use the product. More information, including step-by-step guide, FAQs, instructional videos and other documentation, is available on the support pages on support. 1.2 Product Description The Anybus.NET bridge enables exchange between the factory-floor and the. NET application. It is a state-of-the-art IT/OT bridge, easily bridging the gap between the operational technology (OT) and the information technology (IT). Fig. 1.NET Bridge Functional Overview As a.net programmer, you can get data directly from a PLC system and use this data in applications for statistics, analysis or maintenance. Or data can be sent from the.net environment to the PLC for use in daily operation. The bridge can be used with a wide range of use cases, from simple transfer of KPI values, advanced messages with structured data types, or transfer of I/O data for big data.

6 Preparation 4 (14) 1.3 Prerequisites What s in the box: The.NET Bridge The startup guide To use this product, the following third party software is needed: Microsoft Excel Visual Studio and.net Framework 4.5 SDK or later Go to the support page for the product on Download the Anybus.NET Bridge Setup file and install its contents. 7 Installation 5 (14) 2 Installation See the Anybus.NET Bridge User Manual for more information. 2.1 External View A: Power Connector This connector is used to apply power to the device. It is also possible to connect protective earth (PE) to the power connector. B: SD Card Slot Currently not in use. C: USB Port This port adds the possibility to connect a PC to the device to perform firmware upgrades. D: Status LEDs E: DIN Rail Connector The DIN-rail mechanism fastens the device to a DIN-rail and connects the module to protective earth (PE). F: Industrial Network Connectors Connect to the PLC environment here. G:.NET Connectors Connect to the.net environment here.

8 Installation 6 (14) 2.2 Mechanical Installation The Anybus.NET Bridge is intended to be mounted on a DIN rail. To mount the device, first hook it on to the DIN-rail (1), then push it against the DIN-rail to make it snap on (2). 11 Configuration 9 (14) 3 Configuration Follow the steps below to configure the.net Bridge. 3.1 Step One Create an Information Model using the Excel Template The first step involves both the PLC and.net programmers, who need to agree on the structure of the information to be exchanged between the two systems. This is done using a spreadsheet template. Follow these instructions: 1. Open the Anybus.NET Generator tool and get the simplified spreadsheet template. 2. Edit the spreadsheet template. Configure the messages between the industrial network (OT) and the.net application (IT). Save the file.

12 Configuration 10 (14) 3.2 Step Two Generate a C# API and the PLC Configuration Files The second step is to generate the files needed for further development. 1. Once again, start the Anybus.NET Generator tool. Open the spreadsheet created in the previous step and press Generate Zip. 2. The generated zip file contains configuration files for all supported networks and function blocks for most commonly used PLC environments (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal). If your PLC system is not among the above, a more detailed description of the function block and its contents is available on

13 Configuration 11 (14) 3.3 Step Three Setting the IP Address on the Ethernet Interface 1. Connect the computer with the IPconfig tool installed to the desired Ethernet interface. 2. Start the IPconfig tool. 3. The IPconfig tool will automatically scan all available local networks for HMS devices. Detected devices will be listed in the main window. To refresh the list, click on Scan. 4. To change the IP settings for a device, double-click on the entry in the main window or right-click on it and select Configuration. 5. Enter static IP settings as required, or select DHCP if using dynamic IP addressing. Do not enable DHCP if there is no DHCP server available on the network. 6. Click on Set to save the new settings. The device will reboot automatically. 3.4 Step Four Creating the.net Application For the.net application, use the generated files in the C# and.net folder in the zip file. To verify the.net application, use the Anybus.NET Bridge Generic PLC Simulator to simulate a basic PLC application. For more information on how to setup the.net environment and how to use the simulator, visit the support pages on Step Five Creating the PLC Program For the PLC program, use the generated files in the folder that corresponds to the industrial network. If a function block for your PLC environment is not included, see the Anybus.NET User Manual for more information.

14 Configuration 12 (14) To verify the PLC program, use the Anybus.NET Bridge Generic Host Application to simulate a basic.net application.
