25 Intro to Inrush Reports Inrush Currents are surge currents that occur when a large, or low-impedance load comes on line Normally the current will stabilize after some time when the load has finished starting up High peak currents can cause circuit breakers to trip unexpectedly. Measuring inrush current can help in setting trip levels Since PQ analyzers simultaneously capture inrush current and voltage trends, you can check voltage stability as large loads come on line 47 Gathering the Data Inrush studies require setting up the PQ monitor to trigger on current 4400 & PX5, Use the Current Inrush monitoring mode / setup template 48 24
26 Gathering the Data, continued Parameter Threshold Settings Parameter RMS Current High Limit RMS pre-trigger capture RMS post-trigger capture Waveform pre-trigger capture Waveform post trigger capture When Amps go out, record Transient Instantaneous Peak Setting ~120% of nominal 4 cycles 200 cycles 4 cycles 200 cycles Fault Amps channels 350% 49 What to look for in the Data Check the peak currents and their duration Use the Cursor for readout of momentary values Check if fuses, circuit breakers, and conductors in the power distribution system can withstand the inrush current during this period Check that phase voltages remain stable 50 25
27 Measure waveform with Delta Tool Click on the Delta button Drag out a bounding box for the whole inrush period, showing peak current and duration The top should be on the peak current and the right side should be where steady-state current usage begins 51 Add Related Data to the Window Consider adding other objects to the graph that clarify the data Click an object to insert from the Object Toolbar Objects automatically pertain to the current event Drag any object to move its location in the window Double click objects to edit properties Take a snapshot with the camera button* Such snapshots make good singlepage reports Save the file in.dv6 format to retain the layout and snapshot you created * = available In Enterprise version only 52 26
