4 Upgrade Squirrel Version 1.5 to Squirrel Professional 6.0 Overview This document outlines the hardware and software requirements necessary to upgrade a Squirrel V1.5 system to Squirrel Professional 6.0. Please ensure that all requirements are met before proceeding with the installation. The Upgrade section will walk you through the upgrade to Squirrel Professional. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS HARDWARE The following are minimum system requirements recommended for running Squirrel Professional. Processor: Pentium 4 2.5GHz+ Memory: 2GB+ Hard Drive: 80 GB+ Network Adapter: 10/100 Squirrel Security HASP see Appendix D Hasp Key Installation Squirrel WS8 series with 256 MB RAM (client POS terminal) NOTE: for SIAB and SAM systems the minimum requirement for running the Squirrel terminal as the Host/Secondary is a WS9P with a Celeron 1.5 GHZ processor. SOFTWARE Operating System and SQL Server Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 (for sites with less than 10 terminals) Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (for sites with 10 or more terminals) SQL 2005 runtime per terminal license*** ***If you are on a version of Squirrel that has SQL 2000 run time you must order a SQL 2005 runtime per terminal license. All versions prior to 1.5 were SQL 2000 and version 1.5 comes in SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 versions. NOTE: Window s Automatic Updates should be turned ON for all Squirrel Professional 6.0 installations. NOTE: Windows7 and Server2008 are not yet certified for use with Squirrel Professional. 64bit Operating Systems are also not supported at this time. SOFTWARE Third Party The following are recommendations for software that have been tested to work with Squirrel Professional. Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Software o Trend Micro Internet Security o ESET NOD32 CD / DVD Writing software - For burning database backups to DVD for storage. o Roxio Easy CD Creator o Nero 07/17/12 Squirrel V1.5 to V6.0 Upgrade pg4

5 The Squirrel upgrade installs the following automatically: Windows installer 3.1 MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Component) 2.8 SP1 Internet Explorer 7+ NOTE: Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003 Server does not include IE 7, it is on the DVD under [DVD:]\Files\IE7-WindowsServer2003-x86-enu.exe and must be installed manually ASP.NET 2.0 is required for Reporting Services. When installing Reporting Services, SQL Server Setup will enable ASP.NET if it is not already enabled. Pre-Upgrade Checklist Operating system has been configured properly - please see Appendix A XP/2003 Setup Network address is a static IP please see Appendix B Network Setup If Reporting Services is to be used now or in the future, IIS must be installed from the XP or Server 2003 CD or DVD please see Appendix C Installing IIS Preparing to Upgrade Perform the following tasks prior to upgrading Squirrel: 1. Make sure that Squirrel POS is Shutdown 2. Back up the Squirrel database 3. Exit the Squirrel Browser (if it is open) Upgrading to Squirrel Professional (V6.0) The upgrade to Squirrel Professional can now begin. 1. Put the Squirrel Professional Installation DVD into the DVD drive on the PC. The installation starts automatically. This is an unattended installation for the most part - the install wizard asks for all of the information it needs at the beginning of the installation. Potential Warnings There are two potential warnings that may occur before the Squirrel Professional installation begins. One regarding.net and the other pertaining to IIS and Reporting Services..NET: If.NET has been previously installed there are some potential issues that the computer may or may not have. In order to ensure SQL 2005 installs without issues due to any.net compatibility problems, the installation program checks for any such conditions and may show a warning message that.net will need to be installed or reinstalled prior to SQUIRREL Professional being installed. 6 a. Click OK in the warning message b. Browse to the \NetFX folder on the installation DVD c. Install.NET 3.5 SP 1. d. Restart the Squirrel Professional installation. Reporting Services: if Reporting Services is not being installed and therefore IIS is not installed, a warning appears: Click No to continue with the installation. NOTE: if you are installing Reporting Services, please select Yes and refer to the Reporting Services document for more details. Installation Once the installation program determines that it can begin safely the Welcome screen appears: 1. Click the Next> button 07/17/12 Squirrel V1.5 to V6.0 Upgrade pg6

7 The License Agreement window appears: 2. Read the agreement and click on the I accept the agreement radio button and then click the Next> button The Ready to Install screen appears indicating that Squirrel Upgrade will be performed: 3. Click Install Several progress screens appear this may take several minutes an average upgrade takes up to 30 minutes to complete depending on the speed of the PC s processor and the size of the database. 8 When the installation is complete the final screen appears: 4. Select Yes, restart the computer now and click Finish. Appendix A XP/2003 Setup Before upgrading to Squirrel Professional check to ensure the below settings have been set in the host operating system. Control Panel Settings Network Connections Properties o select Show Icon in Notification Area When Connected Display\Screen Saver\Power Settings o Set Turn off Monitor to Never o Hibernate tab, unselect Enable Hibernation User Accounts\Change the way users log on o Unselect Fast User Switching. System\Automatic Updates o Select Notify me but don t automatically download or install them OR Download but choose when to install updates. System\Advanced\Startup and Recovery Settings o Unselect Automatically Restart under System Failure System\System Restore o Select Turn off System Restore on all drives. 9 Administrative Tools o Select Event Viewer o Select Application o Right click on Application and select Properties o Set the Maximum log size to 2014 o Select Overwrite events as needed o Click Apply and then OK. 07/17/12 Squirrel V1.5 to V6.0 Upgrade pg9

10 o Repeat for the System log file Windows Explorer Settings Launch Windows Explorer. Click Tools > Folder Options > View o Select Show hidden files and folders. o Unselect Hide extensions for known file types. o Unselect Use Simple File Sharing. Appendix B Network Setup Squirrel Professional requires a working Network Adapter with a static IP address. Under your Local Area Connection properties select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click PROPERTIES and check to ensure a static IP has been assigned. 07/17/12 Squirrel V1.5 to V6.0 Upgrade pg10

11 Appendix C IIS Install To install IIS you need the original Operating System CD or DVD. Place the OS media into the CD/DVD player and cancel any screen or programs that may auto run. Under Control Panel select Add/Remove Programs Select Add/Remove Windows Components Click the check box beside Internet Information Services (IIS) once Click NEXT Click FINISH Reboot your PC Appendix D Hasp Key Installation Squirrel V6.0 requires a security Hasp Key. The Hasp Key must be attached to the Squirrel Host Computer s USB port at all times in order to access Squirrel programs. A driver must be installed when the Hasp Key is implemented. The Hasp Key and driver are available from Squirrel. To install the security Hasp Key and driver: 1. Attach the Hasp Key to the Squirrel Host computer s USB port. 2. Copy the Hasp Driver.zip file to any temporary folder 3. Unzip the Hasp Driver.zip file 4. Double click the HASPUserSetup.exe to start the HASP SRM Installation Wizard 5.
