1 Quick Start Guide for the GSP30A 30A-PCKIT Scale and PC Label Cataloging & Printing Program Serial #: This software program will work for Globe GSP30A Scales with serial number and above. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Owners should ensure that no customers, visitors or other unauthorized personnel come in contact with this equipment. Please remember that Globe cannot anticipate every circumstance or environment in which its equipment will be operated. It is the responsibility of the owner and the operator to remain alert to any hazards posed by the function of this equipment. If you are ever uncertain about a particular task or the proper method of operating this equipment, ask your supervisor. System Requirements: PC based machine operating on Windows XP or higher (In most instances Windows 95 and 98 will also work) and an available USB 2.0 port. Note: 64 bit systems operating on Windows 7. If you are operating on Windows 7 and unsure if your system is 64 bit, or 32 bit click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen, right-click Computer, then select Properties. 2 Quick Start Guide - PC & Scale Set Up The GSP30A with 30A-PCKIT is supplied with the components listed below. Ensure that your PC meets the System Requirements according to those listed on the front page of this Quick Start Guide and that all of the items listed below are available prior to beginning this installation. GSP30A Scale This Quick Start Guide GSP30A Owner s Manual (supplied with the scale) AstraLink User Guide Globe 30A-PCKIT Software CD DB9 (RS232 F/F) Data Cable USB 2.0 to RS232 Converter with driver disc Note: There is a USB extension cable packaged with the converter that is not required but may be used for convenience. Note: Do NOT attach USB 2.0 to RS232 Converter to your PC until instructed in this guide. Converter Driver Instructions: Verify no other programs are currently running. Shut down any programs that are running on your PC, and then place the Converter Driver Disc into the CD tray of your computer. Open the folder corresponding to the CD drive to view the folders on the CD. Double click the PL2303 folder. Double click the folder associated with your operating system. Double click the Driver Installer application file and follow the prompts to install the driver. Connect the adapter to an available USB port (DO NOT connect the scale at this time). Your system will detect the device and load the appropriate drivers. Assigning the Proper Port: Open your device manager and click on Ports. Look for Prolific USB to Serial, if it is listed on COM 1, 2, 3 or 4, the driver installation is complete; proceed to the next section for instructions on installing the AstraLink software. If your port is listed as COM 5 or higher, continue this section. In the Devise Manager under Ports, right click the Prolific USB to Serial device and select Properties. Select the Port Settings tab. Click the Advanced button. Locate the Com Port Number drop down and click the down arrow to display your options. Navigate to the top of the list and select any port between 1 and 4 that is not in use. IMPORTANT: If all are listed as in Use, select Com 2. Click OK. You may get a pop-up that states, this Com port is in use and asking if you want to continue, click Yes. Click OK again to exit out of the Settings dialog; remove the driver CD and close all open windows. Installing the AstraLink Software: Insert the AstraLink Software CD. Open the folder corresponding to the CD drive to view the folders. Double click the Globe 30A-PCKIT Software and Info folder. Double click the AstraLink folder. Double click the Install application file and navigate through the installation prompts to install the software. Upon completion, close all open windows and remove the installation CD. Reboot your computer system now, and continue to Page 3. Page 2

3 Connecting the Communications Cable and Scale: With the GSP30A scale turned off, attach one end of the cable to the DB9 port on the scale and the other. end to the open end of the USB to Serial Connector. Turn on the power to the GSP30A Scale. Setting up the GSP30A Scale with the software: With the GSP30A Scale connected and turned on, access the AstraLink software on your PC. This will initiate the one time set up, and display a welcome screen; click Next. A connection screen will open, asking you to verify that the GSP30A scale is on and connected to your computer Once verified, click next. Select the COM Port you previously assigned in the Assign the Proper Port section and then click next. Click Next again. You now need to send program data from the GSP30A scale to your PC. Follow the instructions in the dialog box (on the scale, enter 9000, then the Mode button, then arrow down until the scale displays Communication. Then hit Enter three times). Click OK. Enter a file name (i.e. Deli Scale) and hit Save. Click the Finish button. Enter your Store name and address in the corresponding windows (note this information will appear on the printed labels if you select that option on the PLU), then hit OK. You will get a dialog box indicating the installation is complete. Click OK. You are now ready to begin entering your PLUs. Refer to the AstaLink User s Guide for information on adding, changing and/or managing your PLUs. Page 3

4 Quick Look at AstraLink If you are setting up AstraLink to use with the E13 Ingredient Label, make sure you have read all of the Quick Start guide pages. Also, refer to the GSP30A Owner s Manual supplied with your scale and the AstraLink User Guide for GSP30A Globe Scale contained on the CD provided with the 30A-PCKIT. Connect your scale to your computer using the RS-232 cable. If your computer does not have the RS-232 Serial port, install one end of the USB to Serial adapter to your RS-232 cable, and plug into the computer. Note: Use the provided USB converter if needed. Drivers for this third party hardware must first be installed on your PC before it can be properly used with your cable, PC, and scale. When prompted, load the installation disk for the USB to Serial adapter. If you are given a choice of COM port assignments, choose a COM port from 1 to 4. To operate AstraLink, you need to assign the USB/Serial Port adapter to COM port 1-4. If you are setting up your scale to use Safe Handling or Name/Ingredient labels, set the Label Format in the scale before proceeding. Reference the GSP30A Owner s Manual - Safe Handling Label Set Up (E12) or SDA- GSP30A-GSP30A Ingredients Label (E13) Set Up on Scale, located in this Quick Start Guide and in the GSP30A Owner s Manual. From the CD, open the AstraLink directory. Double click the Install file. Note the directory path your program is being loaded in. You will need to confirm your data files are saved to this directory. Page 4

Click on the AstraLink Icon on your desktop to activate the AstraLink program. This will begin the set up process explained in pages 4-8 in the AstraLink manual.

Press the down arrow key. (Display will show 601 Label) 5. Press the ENTER key two times. (Display will show Format 01) 6. Key in 3 and press the ENTER key two times. (Display will show Length 46.5) 7. Key in (do NOT enter decimal point) and press the ENTER key two times. (Display will show Sensor 75.0) 8. If Sensor value is not 75.0, Key in (do NOT enter decimal point) and press the ENTER key. 9. Press the END key. 10. Press the MODE key. 11. Press the FEED key several times to make sure the label is feeding properly. If you choose to revert to the standard GSP30A label, you will need to follow steps 1-10 above. Using the GSP30A Ingredients Label Set Up instructions, format the scale for the E13 Ingredient labels. 3. Connect the scale and PC using the communications cable. *If using the USB converter Globe has provided, it is necessary to install the driver on your PC before use. A disc is packaged with the hardware for installation. As part of the 30A-PCKIT, Globe has provided third-party hardware for the immediate use and connectivity from your PC to you GSP30A scale. However, hardware pieces, i.e. RS232 female/female 9-slot cable and USB 2.0 to 9-pin RS232 serial Converter Adapter, are not supported or warranted through Globe Food Equipment Company. Third party manufacturers are directly responsible for support of these provided hardware items, not Globe. If any of these items need to be replaced at any time, they can be purchased at a local electronics store or through a local distributor. Globe Food Equipment Company does not assume any responsibility for damage or non-functioning third party hardware whether supplied or purchased. Starting AstraLink (second and subsequent times) on PC When you start AstraLink, the program automatically loads the database that was open when you last exited. The figure below shows the initial screen (called the PLU Search window). Click here to list all PLUs. Use the,, PgUp and PgDn keys to scroll the PLU list. Click here to enter a search string. The list only displays PLUs that match the search. Tab bar. Click here to change the displayed window. Add a new PLU. Open PLU Edit window to edit currently selected PLU. Delete currently selected PLU. Open PLU price change dialog box. PLU list. Double click on a PLU to edit.
