Usage: To provide a Windows desktop software panic button and an optional physical USB connected panic button on networked workstations. The desktop button Application client always floats on top of all other application windows. Alerts other computers running the included administrator alert pop up application that a security alert has occurred and help is needed. Also includes an Server to , or text message all alerts. Optional USB physical buttons are also available. Requirements: Any versions of Microsoft Windows, 32 Bit or 64 Bit. You can download the latest version of this software from our website at anytime. 2 Installation Steps: In the folder that has these instructions you will see five installation files. Some of the installation files are optional. Step One: Database Server install Required. This installation file is called DataBaseServerSetup.exe, which you will install onto only ONE computer on your network, and this will be called the database server pc. Any version of Windows will work. You do NOT need a Server version. Any pc will work. Make sure no other database server is already on this pc such as but not limited to: Microsoft SQL Server, MYSQL, Firebird, or PostgreSQL. Having another database server running can interfere with the database server software our software uses with is MySQL. The computer will need to always be on, and port 3306 must be open to allow the MySQL database to function on the network. The installer will automatically open port 3306 in Windows Firewall, but if you are using a 3 rd party Firewall you will need to manually open this port on the server pc only. This Setup is the Database Sever installation, and also includes a copy of the Administrator client application that will show the alert pop up when the desktop button client application or USB physical button is triggered, and also includes the desktop button client. This allows you to fully test out the software with only this one installation. Always install this setup FIRST. You can also install the administrator alert pop up client, and desktop button client on as many other computers as you wish depending on the license purchased. These installations are explained in steps 2 and 3. Step Two: Administrative Alert Popup Client install Required. The installation file called AdminClient.exe will install just the Admin alert popup client. At the end of the installation you will be prompted to run Edit Settings application to customize the default behavior. You can also start this application at anytime by running the Panic Button Settings Editor app from the Windows Start menu. NOTE: After installation of this type of setup run the Panic Button Administrator shortcut on the Windows Desktop then you can open the application by clicking on the Green Circle icon in the system tray which is located by the clock in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. The green circle icon in the system tray is the one that you click to log into the administrator alert pop up application. The default username when logging into the Administrator application with the file name GreenAdmin.exe is "admin". You can edit/create additional users at anytime. A username is required to clear an alert.
3 Step Three: Desktop Button client install required. Install DesktopButtonClient.exe onto every computer on your network that you want to run the Panic Desktop Button client. Do not change the default installation path. At the end of the installation you will be prompted to run Edit Settings application to customize the default behavior. You can also start this application at anytime by running the Panic Button Settings Editor app from the Windows Start menu. In the startup folder a shortcut to the client application called Button.exe for the Desktop button client will be placed so that each time a user logs in the application will start. Note: Only one pending record per workstation can be active at the same time. Multiple alerts from different pc can be active at the same time, but if a single computer activates an alert, that same pc cannot create another alert until the original alert is cleared with the administration alert pop up application. This holds true for the server. Since the same pc can t create another record there will only be the one sent. Other PC s can create alerts at the same time as well. Panic Button Settings Editor At the end of the installers you need to run the panic Button Settings editor to change the Static IP of the database server, the database server from step 1, and to change any of the application default behavior. Above is a screen shot of one of the tabs. Only the Database Static IP needs to be changes. The other settings can be left to their defaults or changed to customize the application behavior.
4 Step Four: Physical USB Connected Button Optional Also included is the USB connected physical button installer called USBButtonClient.exe. This installs a Windows Service, called Panic-Button, that detects when someone clicks the USB connected physical button that we sell separately. Once the physical button is clicked a record is created with no confirmation for the user to click. The information sent with the alert can be edited by running the Edit Settings application from the Window start menu and choose the Physical Buttons tab. The screen can be locked, in a screen saver, or logged off, but the pc needs to be powered on, and on the network. You can purchase these physical buttons only from us for a cost of $40.00 per device. Includes free shipping within the U.S. (International buyers need to contact us for shipping fees). Note: Prior to installing the Physical USB setup you must have already installed one of the other clients above, either the alert pop or desktop button, because the C:\GreenButton\ greenbutton.ini file needs to already exist with your network server IP on the first line after the [Settings] line. Plug in the USB button into the USB port so Windows can automatically install the drivers before running the installation file. Afterwards install the installation file called USBButtonClient.exe and then reboot the pc.
5 Step Five: Server - Optional: The included installation file is called Server.exe, which you can optionally install onto only ONE pc on your network with internet access. We suggest installing and running the server on the same pc that you installed the Database server PC setup in step 1. This app will always auto run and wait for new records. When the running server, see below, detects a new record, it will automatically /text message the alert, with all the details, to the addresses you setup from within the server app. Below is a screen shot of the settings edit window found on the Settings menu in the Server application. You don t have to edit this information if you want to let the server use our SMTP server information to send your alerts, or you can enter your own SMTP server info. The Server application usually runs on the computer that has the database, but can be any computer. When a new alert is created, the server sends an /text message to all addresses that you setup within the server app. For those facilities that limit internet access you will need to allow internet access to the PC running the server in order for s to be sent.
6 There is no setup required after installing the server, except having the correct MYSQL database server IP in the greenbutton.ini. You can edit this by running the Panic Button Settings Editor app from the Windows Start menu. If you install the server onto the database server there is no need to edit the IP settings since it was done during the database server installation. If you use the Zones feature, the server can be configured to only send to the zones designed for the Alert pop up application. Tip: Mass Desktop Button, Alert Pop Up, or Physical Button installation: If you plan on deploying any of the clients to many PC's on your network with an automated process, follow these simple directions without having to manually run the setup app on each pc. The files mentioned below can be found in the Silent Installers folder in the original downloaded zip file. The preferred way is to create a batch file run the silent installer in the Mass-Installation folder SilentButtonClients.exe with the switch /VERYSILENT. See below. You still need to also copy over the modified greenbutton.ini. The silent installers copy only the default file. To get a modified greenbutton.ini file configure a pc they way you want then include the pc s C:\GreenButton\greenbutton.ini file into your deployment script. Format = SilentDesktopButtonClient.exe /VERYSILENT Format = SilentAdminClient.exe /VERYSILENT Format = SilentUSBButtonClient.exe /VERYSILENT Tip: How to always show the Green Button Admin alert app icon in the Windows system tray. Click the little white arrow on the left, on your pc, and then click Customize. In the next window find the Green Panic Button Admin Client in the list and change the setting to Show icon and notifications.
7 Install Quick Summary 1. Install DataBaseServerSetup.exe onto one pc on your network. This will be the database server. This installer will also install the admin client and button client onto this server 2. Install DesktopButtonClient.exe onto all pc s on your network that you want the desktop panic button client to be on. At the end of the installer run the edit settings application file and on the Database tab enter the static IP address of the server from step one. 3. Install AdminClient.exe onto all pc s on your network that you want the Admin alert popup alert client application to be on. At the end of the installer run the edit settings application file and on the Database tab enter the static IP address of the server from step one. 4. Install USBButtonClient.exe onto any pc that you want to also have a USB Physical button installed. Install on PC s after you have already installed either the desktop button or admin alert pop up client and after you have plugged in the USB button and allowed Windows to automatically install the drivers for the USB button. PC s can have all three clients installed if you want. 5. Install the Server onto the same PC that you installed the Database server in step one.
8 Testing the Panic Button System We strongly recommend that the Panic Button system is tested regularly as you would with any other system such as Fire alarms. Also, if you are using our USB connected physical buttons make sure they are plugged into the USB port, and are illuminated. We also recommend always having the latest version of this software.
