3 2 CHECK YOUR ITEMS Please check first, if your DMX Wizard USB set is complete. If there s something missing, please contact your local dealer immediately. Depending on the type of set you bought, the contents are different: DMX Wizard 512 USB: - 1 x DMX Wizard USB DMX512 hardware interface cable - 1 x Product CD - 1 x Quick installation guide (this manual) DMX Wizard 1024 USB: - 1 x DMX Wizard USB DMX512 hardware interface blue - 1 x USB A-B cable - 1 x Product CD - 1 x Quick installation guide (this manual) 3 INSTALLATION PROCESS 3.1 Supported Operating Systems since Software V5.7 Operating System Windows 98 / SE Windows ME Millenium Windows 2000 Windows NT Windows XP - (no USB-support) 3.2 Software Installation on Windows 98 / ME The next step is the installation of the DMX Wizard USB software. Close all running applications on your PC. Please make sure, that the DMX Wizard USB Hardware interface is not connected to the PC right now. 1. Start up your computer 2. Insert the shipped product CD into the CD-Rom drive 3. Change to the CD-Rom drive folder 4. Open the folder DMX Wizard Software 5. Open the folder Software 6. Open the folder with the newest software version 7. Run the available.exe file (double click on icon) 8. Setup will guide you trough the installation process 9. After installation shutdown the computer 10. Follow chapter 3.4 Hardware Installation Once DMX Wizard USB is installed, you can start it by clicking on the DMX Wizard USB icon located in the programs folder of the Windows start menu. 3

4 3.3 Software Installation on Windows NT / 2000 / XP Follow chapter 3.2 of installation. Differences: If a message like The program or DLL C:\xxxxx\inf\dmxusbcr.inf in no valid NT-File appears, just ignore it and press ok. If Windows is not able to find the necessary USB drivers, point to the following directory i.e.: C:\Program Files\DMX Wizard\driver or the driver directory on the installation CD 3.4 Hardware Installation The shipped blue box or the Interface cable is the physical harware interface between the PC and your DMX512 fixtures. The software is able to work with the following interfaces: DMX Wizard 512 USB: 1. Plug the USB plug of the interface to a free USB connector of your PC. 2. Start the PC. Windows will now automatically detect a new USB device and installs the necessary drivers. If Windows is not able to find the USB drivers, point it to the following directory: C:\Program Files\DMX Wizard USB\driver or the driver directory on the installation CD Note: Never connect two DMX Wizard 512 USB interfaces at the same time, else the system will be unstable and crash. The software supports only one USB interface at once. DMX Wizard 1024 USB: 3. Plug the USB cable to the DMX512 interface 4. Plug the other side of the cable to the free USB connector of your PC. 5. Start the PC. Windows will now automatically detect a new USB device and installs the necessary drivers. If Windows is not able to find the USB drivers, point it to the following directory: C:\Program Files\DMX Wizard\driver or the driver directory on the installation CD Note: Never connect two DMX Wizard 1024 USB interfaces at the same time, else the system will be unstable and crash. The software supports only one USB interface at once. 4

5 4 STARTING UP THE SOFTWARE At startup the program will check the connection to the external DMX512 interface. If the following message appears: - there is no DMX512 interface connected, press Yes (or Ja) to work in offline mode - the DMX512 interface is not connected properly Once the software is started, you can choose choose between three choices: - New Show - Load last used Show - Load a previously created Show - Open fixture panel designer Choose New Show and set up your DMX addresses or Load last used Show if you already made a Show before. 5 WORKING WITH DMX WIZARD USB If the interface connection test passed, you are ready to do your first Show. The DMX Wizard USB guide is integrated into the help function of the software. Press the F1 key and you will find detailed information about all the features.
