3 Participants Input File Header: Text labels for participant identifier and each participant variable (column) Identifiers: One column must be used to specify a unique identifier for each participant Measurements: At least 3 columns of data (text or numeric) representing the measurements for each participant Target Criteria Column: At least one column must be used to classify participants as Target or Off-Target according to a given threshold. 5 Loading Data To begin measuring distances of low-performing participants, you must first prepare a Target Profile 2) Browse for the participants input file in CSV format and click Open 1) Under Target Profiles section, click New 5

6 Loading Data 3) If your selected CSV file contains a delimiter other than a comma, you can select the Custom Delimiter checkbox and specify a delimiter to use when reading the input file. 4) Click Read 6 5) KDC will list all column labels found in the input file

7 Defining a Target Profile 6) A single input file may be used to create many Target Profiles. The following options are used to specify how a Target Profile is created: Option Description Use Column should be used in analysis. Otherwise it will be ignored and not read while processing participants. ID The single column containing the unique identifier for each participant (row of input file) Name The column name Type Indicates if a column should be read as numeric data (whole number or decimal) or Text (categorical or dimensional data). Text column types will be converted to numeric values using frequency analysis. Target Criteria Identification 7 Column to be used in separating the input file into Target and Off-Target classes. A numeric type column must be selected when specifying the target criteria logic.

8 Setting Target Criteria Identification Logic In this example, Customer ID has been selected as the unique identifier, with Region and Gender to be analyzed as Text data. The remaining participants (below) will be analyzed as Off-Targets O West M 15.66

9 Saving Target Profile Definition 7) If Correlation Distance is enabled, KDC will perform high-precision analysis of Root Cause contributions at the cost of higher CPU and RAM usage. Once all options are selected, the profile can be saved and will then appear in the Target Profiles list. When the definition is selected, all options used when created the definition are displayed in the main window. The profile may be removed using the Remove button. 9

10 Processing Target Profile Prior to Activating and Processing the Target Profile, you may adjust runtime options using the Preference window. To do this, click Options and Preferences. These preferences will remain even after KDC is closed. Option Description Default Working Directory The default output directory for all results generated by KDC. A new directory will be created under this directory for each Target Profile generated. Maximum threads for Target Profile creation For multi-processor systems, the target profile can be created faster with additional threads but may cause other applications to become unresponsive. Maximum threads for Off-Target RCA For multi-processor systems, root cause analysis can be performed faster with additional threads. Maximum Top Participants displayed in off-target dashboard When analyzing a large set of off-target participants, KDC will limit the number displayed in the drill-down dashboard. 10 Maximum allowed participants in the off-target dashboard is 10,000.

11 Activating Target Profile 8) Once a Target Profile is defined, it may be activated using the Activate button 11 9) Click Process Targets to generate the Target Profile.

12 Target Profile Validation 10) After the Target Profile is processed, a pie chart showing Valid and Outlier Target participants is displayed. Outlier participants are those that deviate from the majority of the Target population. If many outliers occur (over 25%), the Target Profile definition may need to be reevaluated. 11) The File Processing Report will list all Target participants found as well as any participants skipped due to processing issues. If the The Profile and File Processing Report are acceptable, click Process Off-Targets to measure distances for the participants identified as Off-Target based on the Target Profile Definition 12

13 Off-Target Dashboard Controls 12) Once Off-Target Participants are processed, a new window will display showing the Off-Target Dashboard. Desired Highlighting Thresholds may be set using the Dashboard controls and clicking Update RCA Contribution %: Highlight a variable s contribution % to the overall distance of a single off-target if equal or greater than this threshold % in the Distance Sensitivity Table results. Impact Count: Highlight the totals of variable impacts that are equal or greater than this count in the Impact Table results. Combination Count: Highlight cross-combination counts that are equal or greater than this count in the Impact Table results. Bin Count: Number of bins to display in the Off-Target Distance Histogram Absolute Distance: Displays whole number Kanri Distance units instead of Percentage for variable contributions. Plus / Minus: Zooms in and out of dashboard 13

14 Off-Target Dashboard Drill-down View Off-Target Participant Histogram: Displays total count of Participants belonging to a specific distance bin range This example shows 2 participants, one falling within the distance range 25-20, the other in range Clicking on either bin will show the Root Cause contributions of all participants within the selected bin. The drill-down to bin shows the single participant. This participant s root cause analysis shows most contribution by the Gender variable. Hovering the mouse over any slice of the bar chart will show the contribution of the given variable in Kanri Distance units. 14

15 Off-Target Dashboard Summary Table In addition to the off-target drill-down view, root cause results are presented in tabular form. The summary table shows a summary view totaling those participants impacted by a given variable above the RCA Contribution %. In this case, the RCA Contribution % was set to 10%: Variable 2 has over 10% impact to one participant. Variable 3 had over 10% impact to one participant. Variable 4 had over 10% impact to two participants. Control Metrics (Impact Types) Yellow (In-Control): A participant s original measurement for a given variable is within +/- 3 standard deviations of the Target Profile s acceptable range. Orange (Above Acceptable Range): A participant s original value for a given variable was greater than 3 standard deviations above the Target Profile s acceptable range. Blue (Below Acceptable Range): A participant s original value for a given variable was less than -3 standard deviations below the Target Profile s acceptable range. 15

16 Off-Target Dashboard Distances and Variable Contribution Table A sortable table-based view is displayed following the summary table view. Result are organized by Participant Identifier, original value of the Target Criteria used to classify the participant as an Off-Target, and total distance of the participant. 16 Remaining columns show the percentage impact of each variable to each participants overall distance. This percentage can be show as absolute Kanri Distance using the Dashboard controls.

17 Cross-variable Impact and File Output Locations The final dashboard table shows the total number of participants impacted by a given pair of variables. In this example, one participant has distance contribution of over 10% for both Weight and Gender. All file output locations are listed for off-target participant distances and dashboards generated by KDC. In contrast to the Off-Target dashboard, these files contain full records of results (not filtered or limited) and may be large depending on size of input files. The output files are located in the Default Working Directory set in the user preferences and may be loaded into additional applications for further processing or visualization. 17

18 Resource Estimation for Target Profile Creation Memory and CPU requirements for creating a Target Profile will vary depending on the structure of the Target Profile. Below are estimates for executing a Target Profile based on only NUMERIC data. Text data will require additional computing capacity depending on size of text and number of text variables processed in a Target Profile.
