1 01.01, 26 Aug 2011 Introduction The WebDAV component of elockers makes it easy for you to use your elocker as a web-based storage location that can be accessed from your computer as well as from your ipad. This makes it easy to upload and download files in bulk, and to easily move files between elockers and any computer on which you are working. You do this by mounting your elocker on any internet-connected computer and using it as if it were a hard disk or a USB flash drive. When you copy files to a locally mounted elocker, they appear in your online elocker and are available immediately in Mobile elockers. This provides an easy method for you to back up and access files. Once mounted, your elocker appears as a local drive. The elocker can then be accessed from the desktop of a Macintosh workstation or from a WebDAV application on Windows. Follow the instructions in this document to connect to your elocker through WebDAV, and to move files between your elocker and other locations on your computer. Set up Your WebDAV elocker Setting up your WebDAV elocker is simple. Mac OS handles WebDAV natively very well, whilst Windows requires a third-party application for reliable WebDAV access. Follow the appropriate procedure below to set up your WebDAV elocker on your computer. Using Mac OS X Follow this procedure to set up access to your elocker via WebDAV on your Mac OS computer. 1. Open Finder. 2. From the Go menu select Connect to Server (or press Command + K): The Connect To Server dialog box appears. Copyright Specialist Apps

2 3. In the Server Address field, enter the URL of your personal elocker. (The URL is in the format address>/elocker/<user name>). 4. Click Connect. The WebDAV File System Authentication dialogue box appears. 5. Enter your user name and password 6. Click OK. A Finder window opens, and your elocker appears as a network drive in the left-hand panel. You can now access the elocker just as you would access any other drive. 2

3 Using Windows Windows does not support WebDAV, so WebDAV access to elockers through Windows requires the use of a third-party application. We have found BitKinex to be the most reliable application. Follow this procedure to set up access to your elocker via WebDAV on your Windows computer using BitKinex. Studywiz has taken every precaution in the testing and recommendation of this software. However we did not create or contribute to the coding of WebDAV clients and cannot be held liable for unforeseen events or data loss. Install BitKinex Follow this procedure to install the BitKinex WebDAV client. This application allows your Windows computer to access your elocker. 1. Download the BitKinex WebDAV client from 2. Run the installer. The Open File Security Warning dialog box appears. 3. Click the Run button. The InstallShield Wizard dialog box appears. 4. Follow the steps in the wizard. When installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard Completed message appears in the dialog box. 3

4 5. Click the Finish button. The dialog box closes. 6. Restart the computer. First Run When you first run BitKinex, you need to tell the software how you connect to the internet via a direct connection or through a proxy server. The selection of direct connection or proxy server depends on your network please check with your system administrator. If you select proxy server, you will need to ask your system administrator for proxy details. Direct Connection Follow this procedure to connect to your elocker with a direct connection. If you are unsure how you connect to the internet, check with your system administrator before continuing. 1. Run BitKinex. The Network setup: Connection Type dialog box appears. 2. Select Direct connection. 3. Click the Next button. The Bandwidth Throttle panel appears. 4

5 4. Click the Next button. 5. Deselect the Yes, I want to configure a data source now checkbox. 6. Click Finish. The dialog box closes. Proxy Server Follow this procedure to connect to your elocker on a Windows computer using a proxy server. Before you begin, ask your system administrator for the following information about the proxy server: Address Protocol Port User name Password. When you have the required information, continue with the procedure below. 1. Run BitKinex. The Network setup: Connection Type dialog box appears. 5

6 2. Ensure that Use proxy server is selected. 3. Enter the server Address, Protocol and Port number. 4. Click the Next button. 6

7 5. Enter the User name and Password. Some proxies will not require a username and password. 6. Click the Next button. The Bandwidth Throttle panel appears. 7. Click the Next button. 7

8 8. Deselect the Yes, I want to configure a data source now checkbox. 9. Click Finish. The dialog box closes. Configure BitKinex 1. From the Windows Start menu, start BitKinex. The BitKinex window appears. 1. Click Connect. The Quick Connect dialog box appears. 8

9 2. In the Server Address field, type where <user name> is your username. Make sure you include the / at the end. Without it the connection will not work. 3. In the User field, type your user name. 4. In the Password field, type your password. 9

10 5. Click Connect. The connection to your elocker is made and a new window appears. This window provides direct access to your elocker content. 10

11 Using Your elocker Whether you are using Mac or Windows, using your elocker is simple. To move files between your elocker and other locations on your computer, just drag them either way. You can also edit file names and delete files through the WebDAV interface and the changes you make will appear in your Mobile elocker. 11
