3 1. Move licensing Types of Licenses Move requires a FLEXnet license which can be provided as a Local Activation ID, a Local License File or a Network License File. Local Activation ID or Local License File Local Activation IDs or Local License Files (Node Locked) are suited to stand alone machines and single user license agreements and do not require additional license manager software. Network License A Network License (Floating) requires the installation of a separate license server package - the Midland Valley License Manager (FLEXnet). The license manager may be installed on a different computer (and platform) to that which you run Move on. A Floating set-up allows you to run Move on any machine on your network that you install the software on; when Move is started it 'checks out' a counted license from your server. Only the number of copies that you are licensed for can be run at any one time. A Network License can be provided to run on a local area network in a single site and for use across wide area networked sites (WANs). Please note: WAN access to Move licences require a Global License Agreement and may incur an additional cost. For more details please contact support@mve.com. Dongle Licensing A USB dongle can be used as part of a local licensing set-up. A dongle is simply a hardware token with a unique ID (like a host ID). Both local and network licenses can be issued using a USB dongle ID to control license counting. The USB dongle is plugged into the machine using the local license or plugged into the server hosting the MVE License Manager depending on your setup. Midland Valley will consider a customer's request to license via dongle on a case by case basis and the initiation or transfer to this setup may incur an administration charge and could change your current or future license agreement(s) with Midland Valley. Software Evaluation Licenses By default, software evaluation licenses are provided as Local Activation IDs. Should a Local or Network License be the preferred type, please indicate this to support@mve.com. Academic Licenses Our standard Academic Package provides 20 licenses of Move Structural Modelling and Analysis Software suite on a network license. Non-standard set-ups are also provided based on specific client requirements. 2

4 FLEXnet License Manager Update With the Move 2014 release we have changed our licensing system software version, and have also incremented our license key versions to Midland Valley has moved to version 11.1 of the FLEXnet License Manager for all Move components. This version of the license manager will now support virtualisation and local license activation. Due to the new features and an enhanced security model, Move software cannot be run/licensed with the previous Midland Valley FLEXnet License Manager or license files. Previous Move versions (Move 2008 Move 2013) of the software however can be licensed with this new FLEXnet 11.1 License Manager and a new license file. If you have upgraded to Move 2014 please contact support@mve.com as an updated licence file is required. 3

5 License Setup Midland Valley has combined all of the individual license settings into one configuration page in the Move application, accessed via the Home Screen, of from the Help menu. If you need to setup or adjust your license settings then choose the Help menu > Show License Information. Press the Configure... button to configure your license settings if the Status of your installation licensed features is incorrect. 4

6 2. License Installation Local Activation License Installations using Local Activation Licensing will be issued with an Activation ID which can be configured through the Move launcher. From the File menu choose Configure and then Local Activation. You will be prompted for the Activation ID when you press Next. Copy and Paste the Activation ID into the text field Press the Test Settings to test the local license setup and activate Move. 5

7 Local License File Local license installations (rather than activations) require you to provide Midland Valley with the FLEXnet host id of the machine on which you are installing / have installed Move. To obtain your FLEXnet host id start the Move Launcher. From the File menu choose Configure and then choose Local License File and select Next. The host id of the machine can be found in the top text input area. Please provide this information in an to support@mve.com. Contact support@mve.com for instructions on how to obtain the host id of your machine if you do not already have Move software installed. Installations using Local Licensing (File) will be issued with a local license file which can be configured through the Move launcher. From the File menu choose Configure and then choose Local License File. You will be prompted to browse for your license file when you press Next. Browse to the location of your supplied license.lic file, select it, and press OK. The license file location text should now show your license information. Press Test Settings to check-out your licenses and test the license setup. 6

8 Network License To run Move using a Network License you must install FLEXnet License Manager software and provide Midland Valley with the hostname AND FLEXnet hostid of this machine. For further information please see Midland Valley License Manager. To obtain your hostname and FLEXnet hostid, you can run lmtools or lmutil (included on the USB). If you have any issues support@mve.com. Note: when using lmutils on Windows the FLEXnet hostid is the Ethernet Address field of the System Settings. For installations using Network Licensing you must have a License Server running. Your administrator will supply you with the hostname and optional port number for the computer serving the license. 7

9 This information can be entered using the Move launcher. From the File menu choose Configure and then Network Server License. You will be prompted for the hostname and optional port number when you press Next. Please note: Move will only run if it can locate the license server across the network. You may need to supply the license.lic that you have been provided with from Midland Valley to your System or License Administrator. Specify Enter the hostname of your license server in the Host field. Optionally enter the port number you are using in the Port field. You do NOT have to type symbol. If no port number is specified then Move will begin looking for a license server within a port range beginning at Press Test Settings to test the network license setup and license Move. 8

10 Environment Setting The default when starting Move is to try the System Environment first. This allows a scripted setup and avoids end-users having to manually license their own software, or license administrators typing the same settings on multiple machine installations. If you choose Environment then the information presented is not changeable in Move, but does allow you to see what system variables and/or registry entries are influencing the licensing. The actual order that Move will look for a license using the system is fixed: 1. MVELD_LICENSE_FILE (either in Windows registry or Linux.flexlmrc file) 2. MVELD_LICENSE_FILE (System environment variable). 3. LM_LICENSE_FILE (either in Windows registry or Linux.flexlmrc file) 4. LM_LICENSE_FILE (System environment variable). To use Environment licensing setup a System/Script variable in advance then launch Move. If your administrator has set up the variable correctly then Move will license successfully without the need to enter any details via the Launcher. 9

FLEXnet License Manager FLEXnet 11.1 License Manager Detailed network licensing setup and information can be found in the supplied document: \LicenseManager\FLEXnet11.1\WIN64\docs\LicenseAdministration.pdf \LicenseManager\FLEXnet11.1\WIN64\apps The apps folder contains the supplied FLEXnet applications plus the Midland Valley vendor daemon mveld. It also contains the FLEXnet dongle drivers. The docs folder contains the FLEXnet end user documentation for license and system administrators. It also contains the FLEXnet dongle supporting documents Experienced FLEXnet administrators with an existing FLEXnet setup will only require the Midland Valley vendor daemon (mveld) to be copied to an existing FLEXnet installation and combined other license files. The supplied mveld requires a version of lmgrd to be FLEXnet version 11.1 or higher. A version of lmgrd is supplied in all of the apps folders. 10

12 Installing FLEXnet 11.1 FLEXnet 11.1 may be installed on any suitable machine providing it is available locally or on your network. This can be independent of the machine where Move is installed. Windows Recommended location is C:\Program Files\Midland Valley for the License Manager. Copy the complete \LicenseManager folder to the appropriate location. Linux Recommended location is /opt/mve for the License Manager. Copy the complete /LicenseManager folder to the appropriate location. Mac OS X Copy the complete /LicenseManager folder to the appropriate location. Starting FLEXnet 11.1 You should have received your license file from support@mve.com. A license file called license.lic will be delivered by on request. Copy the file into the license directory where the aforementioned LicenseManager FLEXnet 11.1 was installed. If installing on UNIX, rename the file license.lic. After the license has been copied into the license directory the FLEXnet License Manager needs to read the file: Windows Copy the contents of :\LicenseManager\FLEXnet11.1 to the recommended license location eg: C:\Program Files\Midland Valley\LicenseManager\FLEXnet11.1 In the apps\win32 or apps\win64 folder execute the lmtools utility by double clicking lmtools.exe Note: You should use the WIN32 apps for the 32-bit servers and the WIN64 apps for 64-bit servers See the supplied LicenseAdministration.pdf to enable the License Server to work as a Windows service Go to the Start/Stop/Reread tab Click Reread License File button, to read the license file If you receive an error you may have to restart the license manager daemon, do this by clicking the Stop then Start buttons. Go to the Server Status tab and click Perform Status Enquiry for more information about licenses. Look for the License Log for useful information and any errors You may see the following dialogues when starting the license server. You should press Unblock to allow the License Server to work. 11

13 Linux Recommended license location is: /opt/mve/licensemanager/flexnet11.1/license/ In the apps\linux64 folder use the lmgrd or lmutil utilities to manage your server. See the supplied LicenseAdministration.pdf to enable the License Server to work as a Linux service/daemon To start the license server and log then: prompt# cd apps/linux64 prompt#./lmgrd -c../../license/license.lic \ -l +./../license/mveld.log For the status of the licenses: in the same directory type the following command: prompt#./lmutil lmstat -c../../license/license.lic To reread the license type the following command: prompt#./lmutil lmreread -c../../license/license.lic -vendor mveld Mac OS X The process is identical to the Linux platform instructions. anywhere on your system. 14 4. Command Line Activation In rare circumstances a network or company IT system will require manual Local License activation out with the Move Launcher. Windows perform manual Local Activation We recommend that you: Should be an Administrator user on Windows XP to install. Install with Administrator privileges on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Open a Windows Command Console and navigate to the Move installation folder. Then navigate to the license_bin_utils folder: eg C:\Program Files\Midland Valley\Move2014.1\license_bin_utils Copy the Acivation ID that you have been supplied with (eg 312d ffc), and paste it into the opened Console window after the command: eg: mve_appactutil.exe -served -externalcommserver entitlementid C:\Program Files\Midland Valley\Move2014.1\license_bin_utils mve_appactutil.exe -served -externalcommserver entitlementid 312d ffc This will manually activate your Move software local license. 13

15 Windows use a prior Local Activation License Local Licensing installations will now be issued with an Activation ID instead of a local license file. This Activation ID can be entered using the Move launcher or will have been manually configured. From the File menu choose Configure, and then choose Local Activation and Next. You should see the following: Leave the FLEXnet Activation ID text field blank as shown above. Press Test Settings to test the local license setup and activate Move. 14

16 5. Mac OS X setup The first time Move is started you will be prompted to set up the license system folders. Setup to start the configuration. You will be prompted for the login details of an administrative account. Skip if you don t have the administrative account details. You will be able to then enter licensing details, but local activation will not work (only network and local license setup will work). Don t Ask Me Again if you don t intend to ever use local activation (for example if you use network licensing) After setting up the activation, Move will prompt you for licensing details, as described in previous sections. On Mac OS launch Move and select Help > Show License Information. Please note that Dongle licensing is not available on the Mac. 15
