2 1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction The Silexica Software Licensing is based on Flexera s reliable and secure technology. You will require an internet connection to activate your license file and to download SLX. Trying out SLX and need to get your license file, click here Purchased SLX and need to get your license file, click here o Need to setup your Flexnet License Server, click here Need to find your MAC ID, click here Installing SLX, click here 1.2 License Models Depending on the SLX product there is a choice between two different License Models matching different user requirements: a) Node locked b) Floating The available license models and the related functionality depend on the SLX software product Node locked A Node locked License is tied to a single PC and is, therefore, the ideal choice for working remotely or for single dedicated users within the network. A node locked license cannot be shared by multiple users in the same network and is usually not transferred from one PC to another ( Rehosting ) Floating Floating Licenses can be shared across multiple client workstations within the same local network. Floating licenses are the ideal choice if the software shall be floated over a local network, transferring from one client workstation to the next as required. Page 2 of 11

8 4 How To Find your MAC ID 4.1 Linux 1. Open the Terminal. Depending on your system, this might be called Terminal, Xterm, Shell, Command Prompt, or something similar. It can usually be found in the Accessories folder in your Applications (or the equivalent). 2. Open the interface configuration. Type ifconfig -a and press Enter. If you are denied access, enter sudo ifconfig -a or sometimes /sbin/ifconfig -a and enter your password when prompted. 3. Find your MAC address. Scroll until you find your network connection (the primary Ethernet port is labeled eth0 or enp0s25). Look for the HWaddr entry. This is your MAC address. 4.2 Windows Example "ifconfig -a" output: eth0 Link encap:ethernet HWaddr 00:08:C7:1B:8C:02 inet addr: Bcast: Mask: additional output removed Open the command prompt. Press the Win + R keys and type cmd into the Run field. Press Enter to start the Command Prompt. 2. Run GetMAC. At the command prompt, type getmac /v /fo list and press Enter. This will display configuration information for all your network connections. 3. Look for Physical Address. This is another way to describe your MAC address. Make sure you get the physical address of the correct network adapter - usually there are several listed. For example, your wireless connection will have a different MAC address than your Ethernet connection. Page 8 of 11

9 5 Flexnet License Server (Floating License Only) 5.1 FlexNet Publisher License Server (lmadmin) In case you have licensed the SLX in combination with a floating licensing schema, you need to set up a license server. If you are using just a node-locked license, the following instructions are not required. For a successful setup, the following elements are required: 1. License management utility from FlexNet. You can use either the new "lmadmin" web-based tool (recommended) or the old "lmgrd" command line tool. 2. SILEXICA vendor daemon 3. A valid floating license file The rest of this guide will drive you to the installation process using "lmadmin". In case you want to use "lmgrd", please contact your software distributor. 5.2 Obtaining the Pre-requisites: On your Silexica Licensing Portal, please find the following FlexNet Publisher License Server (lmadmin) Installer for your download: FlexNet Publisher License Server (lmadmin Installer for Linux x86-32/64 (LSB certified) FlexNet Publisher License Server (lmadmin) Installer for Windows x86-32 FlexNet Publisher License Server (lmadmin) Installer for Windows x86-64 After installing "lmadmin" in the server, the SILEXICA vendor daemon needs to be added to the installation. The daemon can be obtained from FlexNet Publisher License Server Package on your Silexica Licensing Portal: SILEXICA vendor daemon (Linux x86-32/64) SILEXICA vendor daemon (Windows) Go to the <installation directory for lmadmin> and place the vendor daemon file SILEXICA (for linux) or SILEXICA.exe (for Windows) directly under this directory. 5.3 Starting the Server: To start the server, run the "lmadmin" file from the installation directory. This will start the license daemon that can be accessed with a browser. Open the Web browser and browse to the license server management interface page at (default port). The following interface is displayed: Page 9 of 11

10 Login with the administrator rights. The default login and password is admin (please change it). Then go to the Vendor Daemon Configuration in the left side menu and click Import License. This will allow you to pick a License file from the local machine. After successfully importing a Silexica floating license, the management interface should look as follows. Please check that the licenses status is Up. At this point you are allowed to perform other management actions like selecting a specific access port for the licenses or restricting the users (click on the "Administer" button). After clicking OK, you can switch to the Dashboard mode in the left side menu to see if the licenses where correctly updated. If you click Concurrent, a list of all licensed features should appear as shown in the following figure: 5.4 Setting the License Path in the SLX After the license server is up and running, the SLX needs to be configured to locate the license server. For this, follow the standard procedure for setting up a license file for your target operating system, as specified in ReleaseNotes.pdf (shipped with your installation). For instance, for Linux this can be done by modifying and exporting the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE. So point at the server by specifying the port and server name (instead of pointing to a fixed license file). As an example, this would be done as follows for a server called "server" that runs a Silexica license daemon on port "58293" (using the Korn and Bourne shell style): export LM_LICENSE_FILE=58293@server Page 10 of 11

11 If you have several products installed in your machine that use different license server nodes and/or ports, the flag has can contain all server nodes. Use a colon (':') to separate the license file names on Unix, e.g.: export LM_LICENSE_FILE=58293@server1:58200@server2 For Windows, the SLX will pop-up a window asking for the license file the first time it is open. At that moment, just provide the text input as shown above instead of providing a license file.
