2 GETTING STARTED Plug in CTM-2 to either primary or secondary power supply port. Connect your PC to the network port on the front of the unit via a standard CAT5 cable and your computer s NIC card. Once an Ethernet connection has been established, access the web interface at the default IP address ( ). Using the CTM-2 Control Panel, navigate the various configuration and status pages within the CTM-2 user interface. CTM-2 MAIN PAGE Displays all of the current CTM-2 settings and readings from both the radio ports and the GPS receiver on board. BASIC INFORMATION Site name: When set, this feld will display the name or location entered under the general system setup page. Date: Displays the current date when CTM-2 is connected to the GPS antenna and has proper GPS lock. Time: Displays corrected time when CTM-2 is connected to the GPS antenna and has proper GPS lock. Time correction can be adjusted to display current time in any time zone from General System Setup page. Alert: Displays current state of alarm for quick reference. MAC Address: Displays MAC address of CTM-2. Address is permanent and cannot be altered by the user. Flash Memory: Upon startup, the CTM-2 will perform a checksum of the primary memory location containing the user interface and operating files. In the event that memory location A is corrupt, the CTM-2 will boot up using location B and display a failed checksum for location A. If both memory banks have been corrupted, the CTM-2 will boot up in Flash Loader mode. In the event of a simultaneous failure of both memory banks contact Last Mile Gear Technical Support at or support@lastmilegear.com. Password Set: Displays current state of password security. Password system OFF is default with no password set. Password security can be enabled by entering the desired code in the Change Password page. Once set, this field will display CTM-2 Password lock is ON. Interface Version: Shows current version of web interface operating software. Control CPU: Shows current version of CPU software load. Hardware Version: Shows current version of CTM-2 circuit board.
3 GPS RECEIVER STATUS & ENVIRONMENT Timing: Displays the status of the GPS timing pulse. When the antenna is tracking three (3) or more satellites, display will be FIX. If the satellites are WAAS enabled, display will be WAAS LOCK. If less than three (3) or no satellites can be seen by the receiver, display will be NO-FIX. Antenna Power: Antenna MUST be installed at initial power up. Once the initial connection to the antenna has been made, the antenna can be turned OFF or ON. The initial connection to the antenna should only take a few minutes; if no connection is made, verify antenna is installed and ON, and re-initiate the power up. SATS: Displays the number of satellites the GPS receiver can see. A minimum of six (6) visible satellites are necessary for proper GPS timing. Sig S/N (db): Displays the current GPS signal to noise level in db as a calculated average. Antenna S/N noise floor is approximately 35dB to locate satellites. The S/N number will be lower if the cable is longer than 5 (typically) but remains an indicator of spectrum noise around the antenna. Ideally, the S/N should be in 45-5 db range, maximum 55 db. A low S/N (+/-.5GHz ) on a reasonable-length cable (eg. LMR 24 up to 5 ) with a working antenna indicates either a bad cable joint or too much noise in the GPS spectrum. Signal can also be affected by moisture in the antenna cable in the event of extreme precipitation. Antenna must have a clear view of the sky in order to maintain a strong signal. Latitude: Displays current latitude position of CTM-2 gathered from the GPS receiver. Actual coordinates will display with three (3) or more satellites. Longitude: Displays current longitude position of CTM-2 gathered from the GPS receiver Actual coordinates will display with three (3) or more satellites. Altitude: Displays current altitude of CTM-2. If the unit powers up into normal web server mode then the radio ports will be on briefly with sync pulses (lasting only a few seconds), then the sync pulses will STOP until a solid time-lock is obtained from the GPS and the backup oscillator has a chance to phase-lock to GPS time, at which time the sync pulses remain on. The Ethernet connection must be available for the Zilog chip to initialize and manage the CTM-2, a feature that enables operation with Base routers.. When doing a Blowout Reset, hold the button in to seconds to reset the IP address, 3 seconds to reset everything. If Ethernet cable is connected, the Ethernet connection light will flash off when the button is released. If a cable is not connected, a light will not flash. 2. Log entry times are captured at the time of the entry which can be up to three seconds after the actual event. The system re-reads the information several times to verify whether it is a singular or recurring event before recording the log entry. A status check runs on most of the sub-systems approximately once per second. 3. If the Ethernet cable is disconnected and then reconnected within seconds, the system will log an Ethernet Connection Restored entry without a corresponding Connection Lost signal. A Connection Lost log entry is entered if the disconnection is more than 2.5 seconds to prevent error flags during housekeeping by the router. 4. The display time on the web page may be -2 seconds late due to the time delay for processing GPS messages and handling web page requests. 5. The Ethernet cable must be connected in order to start the CTM-2. In use with Base routers, the CTM-2 will obtain a solid connection from the router, taking up to 5 seconds, before initializing. If a connection is not made within that time, it will reset and search for a connection. This is required for a stable connection to the Web Interface. 6. All radio ports are ON while the Zilog Web interface stack is initializing; radio ports may only be turned OFF after the Web Interface has initialized. 7. The Reset Complete log entry requires a stable-time lock for the Zilog Web interface and takes approximately 2 seconds to reset. 8. A momentary loss of time lock occurs on reset when the Zilog system will force a warm-start reset of the GPS software. Normal log entry indicates GPS Sig Loss then GPS OK. The sync pulses to the radios are unaffected. 7
