1 Application Name: MLC 52/DVCM 50 Configuration Software Current Version: 2.2 The following notes provide the latest enhancements, resolved and known issues for the software application. For more detailed information please call your Extron Application Engineer. Updated: October 25, 2010 Extron Products Affected: MLC 52 IR, MLC 52 IR VC, MLC 52 RS, MLC 52 RS VC, MLC 52 RS EU, MLC 52 RS VC EU, MLC 52 RS MK, MLC 52 RS VC MK, DVCM 50 Current Engineering Revision: ER TECH NOTES System Requirements: The MLC 52/DVCM 50 configuration software requires Windows NT, 2000, XP, or 7. PENTIUM III 750 MHz or faster processor 128 MB RAM 50 MB or greater available hard disk space Minimum Microsoft.NET Framework required: Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 is required to be installed on the PC. The.NET framework will automatically be installed when the software CD is used for installation. When software installation is performed via the Extron Website,.NET installation will be done via the Microsoft website. Relocation of Default Driver Folder: The default driver folder location for both IR and serial drivers has changed to the following to ensure all users read/write access. If the Driver2 folder is found to be located in the C:\Program Files\Extron\Driver2 folder, it will be moved. The new destination is: For Windows XP, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Extron\Driver2. (this can also be referred to as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Extron\Driver2) For Windows 7, C:\Users\Public\Documents\Extron\Driver2. (this can also be referred to as C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Extron\Driver2) Page 1

2 TECH NOTES Continued IR & RS-232 Driver Requirements: The MLC 52/DVCM 50 utilizes MLC 206 RS- 232 drivers and IP Link IR drivers. RS-232 Drivers are installed simultaneously with the software. The configuration software is compatible with IR IP Link driver package version 6.0 or greater, which must be installed separately. The configuration software and IR IP Link driver package can be found on the CD or Extron website. Configuration Wizard: The Configuration Wizard has been removed from configuration program, version 2.1 or higher. Page 2

4 Released Version: 2.2 Affects: Engineering Revision: ER Software Revision: 2.1 Date(s): February 10, 2009 The following is a list of changes and fixes in this release. Added Feature Support new Operating Systems Now supporting Windows 7 operating systems. Both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems supported. Fixed Issue IR commands learned to the power buttons causes macro mode to be disabled When the device is connected to the configuration software the power on and off buttons will be set to macro mode with any IR learned commands. Drivers will be relocated during installation Driver folder and its contents will be relocated to the Shared Documents folder during installation. Page 4

Added Feature Support new devices - The MLC52 RS MK, MLC52 RS VC MK, MLC52 RS EU, MLC52 RS VC EU are now supported Added Feature Serial Driver Volume Table - Added the ability to add Serial driver Volume Table back into configuration without having to redo entire configuration. Added Feature Function Copy/Cut/Paste - Added copy/cut/paste to the function context menu to allow users to copy any type of command already entered on a button. Fixed Issue Vista Compatibility - Changed default save-to directory to My Documents\Extron\MLC52 to make Vista compatible. Fixed Issue File Saving - Changed the file saving protocol. The software no longer saves each change to the file, now it only saves when directed to by the user. This helps clear up some confusion that occurs when user is restoring existing device configuration over an open file. Fixed Issue Display Comm Settings - Removed the 7 bit option from the Display Comm Settings, Data Bits since it is not supported at this time. Page 5

6 Released Version: 2.0 Affects: Engineering Revision: N/A Software Revision: 1.3 or earlier Date(s): October 2006 The following is a list of changes and fixes in this release. Fixed Issue Commands are automatically added in sequence so adding commands in order is no longer an issue. When erasing commands, the software automatically shifts lower commands up, avoiding the operational errors previously experienced. Fixed Issue Volume buttons no longer erroneously show IR commands when RS- 232 driver is loaded. Fixed Issue Wizard has been modified to allow for beta drivers (drivers with extensions added on to the file name such as _RS1_Beta.mll. However, the formatting of serial drivers is still very strict. They must be: mfg_model_rs1<_extension>.mll where mfg and model are the same manufacturer and model found inside the driver and _extension is optional. Fixed Issue Serial drivers can now be located when installed in directories other than C:\Program Files\Extron\MediaLink or if the driver package is not installed in C:\Program Files\Extron\Driver2. Tech Sheets: Software TS#12255, 12882, 12872, 12351, and Hardware TS#12385 Added Feature - Fully Redesigned GUI Added Feature Revised Wizard color scheme: previously, green, blue, and red color triangles in upper left button corners identified whether buttons were programmed or not. Now, only red triangles are displayed if the button has a function assigned to it. Additionally, the previous version highlighted the whole button yellow when it was the active button, now just a yellow outline is displayed. Added Feature - Function names are now stored in the device s configuration (both online & offline) up to 31 characters. Format is generally <function name>, <driver mfg> <driver model>, <driver device type (IR only)> Added Feature - The two programs help files have been consolidated into one file. Page 6

7 Continued Added Feature Windows Configuration program MLC 52 images are displayed with GC2 style color coding of buttons identifying whether a button is a Power button (gold), volume button (green), part of group of radio style buttons ( input mode blue) or independent (grey). Added Feature - MLC buttons can now be renamed. This name will be stored in the unit s configuration (both online & offline) up to 12 characters. Added Feature - A Save To file does not need to be designated upon start up. The application will save to a temporary file (TempConfig.mlk) until one is designated, reminding the user if they attempt to disconnect without saving. Added Feature - Instead of choosing a current configuration to load from when starting up in emulation mode, the user can select a serial driver. The application will start up as if it is starting a new, empty configuration but it will load the selected serial driver and auto fill the power and volume buttons, if possible. Added Feature - The Volume table can now be removed at the users discretion, however, it currently cannot be added back in without reloading the serial driver. Added Feature - Function names can be changed by the user and will be stored in the device or configuration file for future viewing (up to 31 characters.) Added Feature When initializing from a configuration file or MLC 52 RS series device with a loaded serial driver, the application will attempt to locate and load the driver so the user can select functions from it without having to overwrite the entire configuration again. If the application cannot identify the driver the user is given the option to search for it. If a driver is selected, the application browses the file, verifying the correct driver has been selected before loading it. Added Feature - Functions can be dragged from the driver window and dropped onto buttons or, if a buttons is already selected, the function can be dragged into the Assigned functions box. Added Feature An RS-232 trace window is available from the Tools menu allowing the user to view serial communications. Added Feature - The user is given the opportunity to change the standard directory that the application searches for IR files. Added Feature - An option under Help allows the user to initiate a check for updates using an internet connection. Page 7

10 Released Version: 1.2 Affects: Engineering Revision: N/A Software Revision: 1.1 or earlier Date(s): November 2005 The following is a list of changes and fixes in this release: Added support for DVCM 50 This version adds full support for the DVCM 50 DVD/VCR control module. Updated Firmware Uploader Program This version updates the Firmware Uploader program to version 2.4. This application is used for updating firmware for several Extron products, in particular, the MLC 52 series controllers and the DVCM 50. Page 10

11 Released Version: 1.1 Affects: Engineering Revision: N/A Software Revision: 1.0 Date(s): Units shipped prior to October 2005 The following is a list of changes and fixes in this release. Fixed Missing *.ocx file during installation- The software now installs the required file, mscomct2.ocx, which is necessary to be installed and registered on the PC for the program to be launched. Fixed IR Driver function list not refreshing- If a serial driver function is programmed to a memory block prior to an IR driver function in one of the four memory blocks per button, the listed functions does not refresh and erroneously shows the RS-232 functions instead of the functions from the IR driver.
