General Information What is ANGEL? ANGEL is an acronym for A New Global Environment for Learning. You can visit their website at www.angellearning.com Why is WebCT no longer being used? North Seattle Community College has chosen to migrate to ANGEL. Many other community colleges in Washington State are also migrating to ANGEL, and it is hoped that when students transfer to different schools they can spend their class time learning course content; not the course management system. When can I access my online class? For classes at through North Seattle Community College students will be able to access their ANGEL account the first day of the quarter unless other wise noted. I m using a tuition waiver and can t register until the 10 th day of the quarter. When can I access my ANGEL account? If you are a student using a tuition waiver, you should first contact the instructor for the course and ask permission to join. If you are accepted into the course, please email the acceptance letter or email to our office. We will be able to set up an account before your registration so you will be able to start on the first day of the quarter. I registered after the first day of the quarter; why can t I access my ANGEL account? After the first day of the quarter ANGEL accounts are created manually by our office staff. Students will need to wait 1-2 business days after registering for their account to be created. Can I use ANGEL at work or on a public computer? ANGEL requires that Pop-Up blockers be disabled and that security settings not be very high. Depending on your work place, you may or may not be able to use ANGEL. Please contact your IT Service Department for more information. Can I use ANGEL on a mobile device such as a cell phone or Blackberry? Yes. In the lower left hand corner of any ANGEL screen you will see an icon named PDA. Click on this link to enter PDA mode. What are my Username and Password? Both your Username and Password will be your full Student ID Number.

System Requirements What are the Angel 7.3 System Requirements for a PC? Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Vista operating systems Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 7 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (version 2 or higher) Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or higher JavaScript and AJAX enabled Pop-Up blocking disabled What are the Angel 7.3 System Requirements for a Mac? Macintosh OS 10.X + (Jaguar, Panther, or Tiger) Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 7 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (version 2 or higher) Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or higher JavaScript and AJAX enabled Pop-Up blocking disabled Will ANGEL work with a Mac? Yes, please review the system requirements for Macs. What Internet Browsers are compatible with ANGEL? ANGEL is compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 7 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (version 2 or higher). What Internet Browsers are not compatible with ANGEL? There are many different types of Internet Browsers. Often your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will install an Internet Browser on your computer. Many computers may come with a factory installed Internet Browser (such as Safari on Macs). Some of the Internet Browsers available that are not compatible include Safari, Opera, Google Chrome, Comcast, or AOL Explorer. What is an Internet Browser? An Internet Browser is a software application that is used to access the content of the internet. There are many different types of internet browsers including, but not limited to: AOL, Safari, and Netscape. However, only Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 7 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (version 2 or higher) will work with ANGEL.

What if I don t have the required Internet Browser? You can download either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox for free. Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads to download IE. Please visit http://www.mozilla.com/en-us/ to download Mozilla Firefox. General ANGEL functions What skills do I need before I use Angel? Students should be able to navigate the internet Open and save files Send emails with attachments and receive attachments Upload files Students should feel comfortable communicating with their instructor and tech support should problems arise. Students should be willing to trouble shoot problems with their computer or internet connection. How do I log on? Go to http://northseattle.angellearning.com/. You may want to book mark this page so it is easy to find later. Log in using your full Student ID Number as your username and password. Please remember you will not be able to log in to your course until the first day of instruction for the quarter. What is Personal Home? When you log into ANGEL, your personal home page appears. Home enables you to access all the courses in which you are enrolled. The page also provides a variety of tool to assist you with your course work. What is Course Mail? Course Mail is a way for students and instructors to communicate without using external email accounts. It is similar in design and in application to a regular email client in that you can view and compose messages. Why can t my instructor and other students email me at my personal or work email account? Course Mail is a convenient and easy way to communicate. Unlike personal or work email accounts, students and faculty can communicate without exchanging email addresses. With Course Mail students and faculty don t have to worry about full email boxes or if their message will be sent to a spam folder.

Do I need to log in to Angel in order to read my Course Mail? You can log in to Angel to view your course mail or have your course mail forwarded to an internet email account. Login to ANGEL From My Page, under Toolbox Click the 'Preferences' link Click System Settings Scroll down to Mail Settings. Enter the email address you want to forward your mail to and select your preferred forwarding mode. What are nuggets? Nuggets are the components that make up your Personal Home Page. Some of the nuggets that are included when you first log in are Courses and Course Mail. You can rearrange nuggets by clicking on the edit page link at the top of the Personal Home Page screen. You can also add nuggets by clicking the edit page link and then clicking add components. You can edit and customize nuggets by clicking the edit page link on the personal home page. What are assessments? Assessments are similar to quizzes in that they help students and instructors evaluate learning. The instructor can choose how many points the assessment will be worth, when students can take the assessment, and what type of questions will be on the assessments. Additional Resources Where can I find additional help? Students can visit NSCC s Distance Learning Office Monday thru Friday 8:30am 5:00pm. You can also call us at (206)527-3738 or email us at distance@sccd.ctc.edu. Students can also browse the ANGEL online help menu by clicking on the question mark in the tool bar on the left hand of the screen. This is the Student Essentials Guide which is available to users before they have an account. This guide is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of ANGEL and its primary tools. There is a section listing Common Tasks this is a good place to start to familiarize yourself with how ANGEL works.
