2 ABOUT NOTETAKING SERVICES Many students who are registered with the Disability Support Services (DSS) office at CSUF depend on the notetaking accommodation to obtain class notes to help them with their studies. DSS facilitates this accommodation through Notetaking Services by matching up students, who have been approved for this accommodation, with volunteer notetakers. Selected notetakers may receive the following incentives: Priority registration for the upcoming semester A letter of recommendation from the DSS Director Volunteer service hours (please inquire with DSS) VOLUNTEER NOTETAKER APPLICATION Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer notetaker! To volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Notetaker Application. Completed applications will be sent to the Coordinator of Notetaking Services to approve and upon selection by the DSS student, an acceptance will be sent to the notetaker to begin uploading class notes. Follow the steps below to begin: 1. Open an internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) 2. Go to the DSS website at 3. Select the TITANABLE link Page 2 of 14
3 4. Select the Notetaker Login link from the side navigation 5. Enter your campus username and password Page 3 of 14
4 6. Select the Volunteer Notetaker Application link 7. On the Update Profile page, complete the required fields and select the Next button Page 4 of 14
5 8. On the Agreement page, review the guidelines, mark the checkbox in the statement at the bottom of the page, and select the Next button 9. On the Courses page, mark those classes you would like to volunteer to be a notetaker and select the Next button Page 5 of 14
6 UPLOADING SAMPLE NOTES To upload sample notes for one or more of the classes you selected to volunteer: 1. Open an internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) 2. Go to the DSS website at 3. Select the TITANABLE link 4. Select the Notetaker Login link from the side navigation Page 6 of 14
7 5. Enter your campus username and password 6. On the next page, select the correct term to display your courses and in the My lecture notes column, select the Upload sample notes link that corresponds to the course you would like to upload sample notes Page 7 of 14
8 7. Name your sample notes file(s) using the words Sample Notes followed by the course subject and number such as Sample Notes - MATH In the Lecture date field, type or select today's date 9. Select the Browse button and locate your sample notes file 10. Browse for other files if you would like to upload additional sample notes files 11. Select the Submit notes button Page 8 of 14
9 UPLOADING LECTURE NOTES IMPORTANT! You will be notified by when you have been selected to be a notetaker; do not begin uploading lecture notes until you receive the notification. After you have been selected to be a notetaker, follow the steps below to upload lecture notes: 1. Open an internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) 2. Go to the DSS website at 3. Select the TITANABLE link 4. Select the Notetaker Login link from the side navigation Page 9 of 14
10 5. Enter your campus username and password 6. Select the Upload lecture notes link Page 10 of 14

Name your lecture notes file(s) using the words Lecture Notes followed by the course subject and number; and the 6-digit date (mmddyy) such as Lecture Notes - MATH In the Lecture date field, type or select the lecture date 9. Select the Browse button and locate your lecture notes file; select the New file upload button if you would like to upload additional files (DO NOT upload more than 3 files at a time) 10. In the Comments textbox, specify the type of notes such as Lecture Notes 11. IMPORTANT! If you were absent and missed a class session: In the Lecture date field, select that date you were absent, leave the file upload field blank and specify Absent in the Comments textbox Page 11 of 14
12 WITHDRAWING FROM NOTETAKING Regardless of whether you have been selected to be a notetaker or not, if you are unable to provide lecture notes for one or more of your classes, you may withdraw from notetaking by following the steps below: 1. Open an internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) 2. Go to the DSS website at 3. Select the TITANABLE link 4. Select the Notetaker Login link from the side navigation Page 12 of 14
13 5. Enter your campus username and password 6. In the dropdown list under the I am no longer available to take notes for the following course label, select the course you would like to withdraw from notetaking and select the Remove this course button 7. On the next page, in the textbox, specify the reason for your withdrawal from notetaking and select the Confirm button Page 13 of 14
14 SCANNING NOTES TO UPLOAD INTO TITANABLE Computer workstations with flatbed scanners are available in the DSS Computer Access Lab, in University Hall (UH), room 102A for notetakers to scan class notes and save as PDF files. These files can then be uploaded directly to TITANable or they can be saved to a USB drive to upload from another computer. For assistance while using a scanner, please look for a Computer Lab Assistant or go to the DSS front office, in UH-101, and request to meet with the Notetaking Services Coordinator. The Computer Access Lab is open during the DSS regular hours of operation: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. QUESTIONS? CONTACT THE NOTETAKING SERVICES COORDINATOR! While Computer Lab Assistants can provide in-person help with the scanners, it is recommended that potential and selected notetakers contact the Notetaking Services Coordinator, Dena Leischner, for help with all areas of Notetaking Services. This includes assistance with: completing the Volunteer Notetaker Application uploading sample notes uploading class notes withdrawing from Notetaking Services Dena can be reached at (657) or by at dleischner@fullerton.edu.
