How to search for a title? You can use WEBPAC to search for books, audio materials, e-resources. Please click on Search our catalogue:,and you can use the known title, author name, call number or ISBN as searching keywords when you search for the items on the library online catalog. If you want to search for the audio-visual materials only, you can restrict your search by choosing the field [AV materials ] instead of [View Entire Collection]. 4

How to locate books? Location It shows you which floor this item is shelved on Call Number It indicates this item s location on the shelf. Status available means that this item can be found on the shelf and you can check it out. A call number is located at the bottom of the book (video) on the spine. 5

service items The NTU System Library Service Interlibrary Loan Card Service Nationwide Document Delivery Service(NDDS) RapidILL Express Document Delivery Service Interlibrary Loan Application The NTU System library service provides full-time teachers, staff and students of NTUST to borrow books from the other two universities (NTU and NTNU) libraries simply by using their own teacher card or student ID card. Each teacher or student is allowed to borrow up to 5 books for 30 days. Interlibrary Loan is a service through which you may obtain items that are not found in the NTUST Library collection. You can apply for an Interlibrary Card at the Reference Desk of Library, which enables the card holder to borrow materials from 21 universities and institutions. You can request journal articles or borrow books through NDDS from other libraries. Those are online services, which is very convenient for you. * Before making a request from ILL service, please check the NTUST Library online catalog to make sure the items you want are not held at NTUST libraries. RapidILL service will be delivered often within 24 hours. Through this service, we will help you in obtaining the required documents in a short period of time. 1. Check our online Library Catalog first before ordering materials. 2. Request through RapidILL Service is available for photocopies of Western journal articles. 11

Useful Databases - Finding Academic Journal Database Web of Science (WOS) Scopus Engineering Village (EV) ScienceDirect (SDOL) Journal Citation Reports (JCR) Description The ISI Citation Databases collectively index more than 8,000 high quality, peer-reviewed journals cover-to-cover, providing users with complete bibliographic data, full-length author abstracts, and cited references. SCI Expanded: 1993 to present; SSCI: 1993 to present. Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. On Engineering Village platform, Compendex (Engineering Index) provides international coverage of engineering and applied science literature in over 5000 journals, conference proceedings, and technical reports. Sciences periodicals database from Elsevier, contains over 25% of the world's science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information. Thomson Scientific analyzes journal citation patterns to determine "Impact Factors" and "Half-Life" values for thousands of journals. 16

Worldwide business periodicals. BSP is a business research database, providing full text for more than 2,300 journals. BSP covers most business and management topics including accounting, banking, economics, finance, international trade, marketing One of the leading Chinese language collection of full-text periodicals in the global Chinese speaking language in the world. 17

Useful Databases -Finding E-These & Dissertation Databases NTUST E-theses system NDLTD in Taiwan NDLTD Global ETD Search PQDT [ProQuest] Digital Dissertation Consortium (DDC) Description National Taiwan University of Science and Technology E- theses and dissertations system. Provides access to abstracts, in both Chinese and English, of academic dissertations and theses approved by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan since 1956. NDLTD wants to build a comprehensive gateway to all doctoral and master-level theses and dissertations. This requires world-wide cooperation of all doctoral-degree granting institutions. Moreover 4,875,591 electronic theses and dissertations contained in the NDLTD archive. PQDT provides bibliographic citations for doctoral dissertations completed at North American colleges and universities from 1861 to the present. Records after 1980 include abstract. Titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital format and have 24 page previews available. DDC database provides access to more than 215,813 dissertations and theses subscribed by the Consortium member institutions from PQDT. Fulltext is available. 18

Business Database: ABI & BSP ABI INFORM Collection Includes key business and economics periodicals such as the Economist, country-and industry-focused reports, and downloadable data. Its international coverage gives researchers a complete picture of companies and business trends around the world. Business Source Premier is the industry's most used business database 28 for full-text business publications.

Find Dissertations & Theses ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) Provides visibility of breakthrough research from the world s premier universities. The service provides free access to 24 page previews and the full text in PDF format. Digital Dissertation Consortium (DDC) Provide fulltext of ProQuest digital dissertations and theses bought by consortium members in Taiwan. 29

JCR(Journal Citation Reports) Journal Citation Reports offers a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world's leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. Enter a journal name input journal of manufacturing JCR is based on citations compiled from the Science Citation Index Expanded(SCIE) and the Social Science Citation Index(SSCI). Journal Title by IF Results table updates with those journals categorized as Agricultural engineering. Initial ranking is by Journal Impact Factor. The Journals By Rank page enables you to see the relationships for journals in a selected subject 33 category as well as specific indicators relating to each title, displayed within a customizable table.

Federated Search tool - Discovery Search Discovery Search (EBSCO Discovery Service ; EDS) is a Federated Search tool that allows you to access the majority of the Library's resources using a single search. This includes article databases, e-books, and records from items in the Library's catalog like books and DVDs.. Basic Search Discovery Search -Search Bar 1. On the Basic Search Screen, enter your search terms in the Find field. (Keyword is the default.) 2. If desired, select to restrict your results to a Title search or an Author search using the drop-down menu beside the Search box. Advanced Search If you want to use any of the optional Limiters or Expanders, click the Search Options link. 35

Discovery Search - Refine Results To revise your search, you can apply any of the limiters under Refine Results. There are several ways to refine your search from the Result List. Apply limiters under Limit To or use the available facets (such as Source Type, Subject, and Geography) all found in the left column 36

Bibliography Management -Endnote Home > E-Resources > Endnote What is EndNote? EndNote is a citation management software package, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles. References can be imported directly from library catalogues and article databases into the software. Database Search Tips Phrase Searching There is no need to place quotation marks ( ) around just one word. This search tip only applies to phrases. Examples: digital learning computer organization and design Keyword Search Keywords are words that can appear anywhere in an article including the title or somewhere in the article text. A keyword search is the default search in most databases. Limiting a Search When searching a database look for the options listed under LIMITERS to determine which options are available. Common limiters that may appear in the Limit your results area include: Full Text Peer Reviewed Date Published.. 38

Database Search Tips Boolean operators Boolean logic defines logical relationships between terms in a search. The Boolean search operators are and, or and not. You can use these operators to create a very broad or very narrow search.the three basic boolean operators are: AND, OR, and NOT. For example: Java AND Oracle For example: programming language NOT php Truncation To use truncation, enter the root of a word and put the truncation symbol at the end. The database will return results that include any ending of that root word. Examples: child* = child, childs, children, childrens, childhood For example: child* AND education 39

Users who violate the law shall take full responsibility. Limit uses to non-commercial, educational, or personal research purposes, the downloading for business purpose is not permitted. Users are not allowed to use robots or any other intelligent agents to conduct systematic, bulk or automatic downloading from the library databases. Systematic downloading or printing of entire journal issues or volumes, or large portions of other e-resources is not permitted. 41
