REMINDERS WHEN GOING LIVE WITH FACEBOOK LIVE: 1) START BY TURNING YOUR PHONE Horizontal to shoot in LANDSCAPE MODE (so that your broadcast will be horizontal vs vertical). This is crucial for when you want to repurpose your content on other channels. 2) TO BROADCAST THROUGH YOUR PROFILE, tap to update your status, and click on the Live icon. 3) CREATE A COMPELLING TITLE / WHAT S THE FOCUS?: Write a description about your Live Stream. This will be displayed in peoples news feeds / and notifications. Tease your Live Stream in advance and Let People Know What it will be ABOUT. 4) HAVE A PLAN: Know what you are going to talk about ahead of time. 5) SELECT YOUR AUDIENCE BEFORE GOING LIVE. *If this is your first Live Stream, I suggest practising and selecting ONLY ME so that you can get comfortable before going LIVE before an audience. 6) DURING your broadcast, you ll see the number of live viewers, who have tuned in and comments in real time. Invite those viewers to tap the SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. This way, they ll get notified the next time you re live. 7) *AFTER YOUR BROADCAST, your live video will be saved on your timeline like any other video you upload. 8) STRIVE FOR GREAT AUDIO (SEE MELISSA S AUDIO FAVS). Use a microphone, and speak loudly and clearly. Avoid broadcasting anywhere that has a lot of background noise. NOTE: You CAN NOT play music that is not YOURS on a Live Stream you will be SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. 9) TEST DIFFERENT BROADCAST LENGTHS AND TIMES: Facebook recommends you go live for at least 5 minutes. Also try going LIVE at different times of the day, to see what resonates best with your audience. 10) END WITH A CALL TO ACTION: Make the most of your opportunity. Include a simple call to action at the end of your video, such as a visit to your website, or to private message you for information. 11) EDIT YOUR VIDEO: Once your video is on your wall, you can go back and edit it. Click on the date of the post in your timeline to access it and select edit. Choose a suitable THUMBNAIL Select a Category Add a Call to Action (Match the call to action you gave during your live stream) Add a URL 12) GET MORE VIEWS: Repurpose Your Video SHARE THIS Video on all your social media profiles. Write a Blog Post with some of the highlights and embed the video. This will show up on your Facebook view count and you may also get new fans and subscribers.
WONDERING ABOUT EQUIPMENT? Regardless of budget, you can produce live videos that engage your audience and help you stand out from the competition. #1 START WITH YOUR SMART PHONE it s FREE! Turn your smartphone camera on yourself and instead of taking a selfie, start streaming LIVE! *NOTE: Picture quality will be most optimal if you can POINT AND SHOOT (rear camera), rather than in SELFIE MODE (front camera) as you will have HIGHER PIXELS but either way is fine JUST GET STARTED! Using the Front Camera will allow you to see the angle you re shooting from and read the comments. When I shoot using the Rear Camera, I also set up my laptop close by so I can see the comments and online activity. You could... #2 INVEST SOME $ into some AUDIO/VISUAL GEAR for your Mobile Phone Setup If you want your stream to reflect the value that you provide, it s best to eliminate any distractions. To give your live streams a more professional look with better audio, lighting, and stability, you can invest in gear that attaches to your phone. It can make a SUPER BIG DIFFERENCE without emptying your wallet. Use an EXTERNAL microphone to improve the audio experience. There are so many available a couple options depending on your application: I sometimes use the irig Microphone pre amp to connect the Rode Reporter Omnidirectional Handheld or Seinnheiser MKE 600 I like to put these on a table stand for interviewing. Otherwise I would recommend lav mics (refer to Melissa s FAVOURITE TOOLS to TURN YOUR CELL PHONE INTO A VIDEO CAMERA)
Put your phone on a tripod or even attach a grip such as an IOGRAPHER to a tripod, which allows you to attach additional audio / lighting also. It s all about providing an optimal, professional experience for viewers. A microphone that I like to use on top of the Iographer is the RODE VideoMicro DON T FORGET! To connect the RODE VideoMicro to your Cell Phone you will ALSO NEED a RODE SC4 TRS to TRRS Adaptor or it won t work! MEVO THE LIVE EVENT CAMERA DIRECT YOUR STORY You can use additional tools to boost your LIVE STREAM and have some fun with it! TRY OUT THE MEVO CAMERA, that will enable you to edit while you are filming using multiple camera angles. Zoom, Pan and Cut with ease. With the MEVO you can stream live or share later. Stream live to your audience from virtually anywhere via WIFI. Record HD videos directly to your SD card or stream to Livestream, Facebook, Periscope or Twitter. GETTING MORE COMPLICATED you can also broadcast from your Computer, OR Build a Dedicated Studio Setup. Going live from your computer allows you to bring in guests to interview, add pre-recorded video, graphics, title keys (supers), and more! interested?
