Lab 5: Access Control Training Station Learning Objectives At the end of the lab, trainees should be able to: 1. Understand the functional block and hardware of an access control system. 2. Understand the function and operation of exit push button, emergency break glass and EM lock. 3. Wire up a single door access control controller. Tools, Equipment and Materials ASIS Access Control Training Station. Task 1: Understanding the Access Control System Hardware. 1. Sketch the functional blocks of an access control system. 2. Based on the ASIS access control training station provided, identify the components of each functional block. SY3005FP: Intrusion and Access Control Technology Page 1 of 7
1. Indicate on the following picture, which one is the ENTRY and the EXIT side of the door. b c d g h a e f 2. From the above pictures, list the components labeled a to g. Match them to their functions below. Label Component name Functions b Provide door status, either open or close. Read access card of outgoing card users. Read data from reader and door accessories status, decide whether to open the door by controlling the EM lock. Request system to open the door in a normal authorized manner. Emergency exit. Force open. Read access card of users. To lock/unlock the door. 3. In the following picture, identify the following components: ASIS access control controller (ACU205) Backup battery Step down transformer Fuse Warning : The transformer input is AC 230V! Once power on don t touch it!! SY3005FP: Intrusion and Access Control Technology Page 2 of 7
Features of ASIS ACU 205 Controller: Reader interface : 2 Inputs : 8 (supervised/non-supervised) 2 Fire and Enclosure Tamper Outputs: 6 (2 relay and 4 open collector). As a 2-door controller, 4 inputs and 2 relay outputs are reserved used for reader. The other 4 inputs and the 4 open collector outputs may be used for intrusion monitoring application. IDS ACS ACS ASIS ACU 205 Controller INPUT connection. When ACU205 is configured as access control and intrusion system, the following default input settings applies: SY3005FP: Intrusion and Access Control Technology Page 4 of 7
ASIS ACU 205 Controller OUTPUT connection. ASIS ACU 205 Controller DIP switch setting. Bit 1 5 : For address setting. Bit 5 -> MSB, Bit 1 -> LSB. Example 00000 = 80h (decimal 128), 1111 = 9Fh (decimal 159) (You need to enter the decimal address into the software) For your info, do not change the following bits Bit 6 : ON -> input 1 8 in Supervised mode. OFF -> non supervised mode. Bit 7 : Not defined at the moment. Must always set to OFF. Bit 8 : OFF -> Normal mode. ON -> For factory default 1. Refer Fig 6.1, ACU 205 wiring diagram. While terminating cables from termination block to controller board, do not unscrew or remove any cables from top most and bottom most row. 2. In the ASIS access control cabinet, connect controller power supply (P2 top arrow) from step down transformer. Connect power for BF-450M converter to P2 bottom arrow. 3. Identify the cable labelled contact at the termination block. Use cables to connect contact to controller board connector P7. 4. Identify the cable labelled push button at the termination block. Use cables to connect push button to controller board connector P7. 5. EM lock and break glass connection. Identify the cables labelled EM Lock and B/G (break glass) at the termination block. Connect one point of the B/G to controller board connector P4 (lower connection point). Connect the other point of the B/G to + input of the EM lock (RED cable). Connect the - input of the EM lock (BLACK cable) to controller board connector P4 (upper connection point). 6. IN and OUT reader connection. Identify the cables labelled Reader In and Reader Out at the termination block. Connect RED cable of Reader In to right most connection point of controller board connector P8. Connect BLACK cable of Reader In to the connection point to the left of RED cable of controller board connector P8. Connect GREEN cable of Reader In to the connection point to the left of BLACK cable of controller board connector P8. Connect WHITE cable of Reader In to the connection point to the left of GREEN cable of controller board connector P8. Repeat steps b to e for Reader Out connecting to controller board connector P9. Connect IN reader brown cable to P8 Red LED. Connect IN reader orange cable to P8 Green LED. Connect IN reader yellow cable to P8 Buzzer. Connect Fire Alarm and Tamper Alarm (P6) to GND.
