Procedures If an ipad is going to be given to a different user, the ipad must first be given to the technology department. A trouble ticket will need to be submitted so that it can be tracked accordingly. The TRM s spreadsheet will also need to be updated. If the user of the ipad will be switching schools and wants to take their ipad with them, the Technology department will need to be notified to determine if this is allowed or not. A trouble ticket will need to be submitted. ipads are not allowed to be synced with any computer. The software we use to manage and track the ipads come preinstalled and must remain on the system. When an ipad is synced with a computer the certificates used to manage and track ipads will be removed. Broken ipad: If an ipad has a cracked screen, will not power on, or has any other form of damage, a trouble ticket will need to be submitted to the Technology department. DO NOT TAKE THE IPAD TO THE APPLE STORE FOR REPAIR Requesting a New App: If there is an app that needs to be added to Self Service then a detailed RTP will need to be sent to Sandy Rowlette. Every other week app requests will be reviewed and determined if the apps are needed. We will not be adding any free apps to Self Service. For free apps you can go to the App Store to download. Naming: The ipads will need to be named correctly. The naming scheme is: [School Initials]-[iPad]-[Property Number] Example: MC-iPad-55555 Eagle Studio has a different naming scheme The # is the number that is written on the back of the ipad in sharpie [MS]-[iPad#]-[Property Number] Example: MS-iPad16-44444 3
ipad Setup 1. When you receive a new ipad the user must first enroll using the ipad. To do this open the Safari App. 2. In Safari open the bookmarks 3. In the Bookmarks open the OTA Enrollment. You will get a pop-up saying that the Server Identity Cannot be Verified. Tap Continue 4. Next you will be prompted to put in your user name and password. The username you should use is the last name, first initial, middle initial. The password will be the same that you use to login to the computer. 4
ipad Setup Cont. 5. Next you will get a screen wanting you to install certificate. Tap Install Certificate 6. Next the Install Profile page will come up. Tap Install 7. Tap done and you will be redirected to another certificate page. Tap Install Profile 5
ipad Setup Cont. 8. Tap Install then tap Install Now 9. You will then receive a warning saying that the Technology Department will be able to manage your ipad. Tap Install the Tap Done 10. The initial setup of the ipad is now complete! 6
Apple ID Creation Open the App Store on your device. Find a free application on the App Store. Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install the free application by tapping Free followed by tapping Install App. Tap Create New Apple ID. Choose your country, and then tap Done 7
Tap Create New Apple ID. You'll need to read and agree to the itunes Store Terms & Conditions. Tap Agree located at the bottom of the page to continue. Enter your email address, security questions, birthday, and create your password. You also can enter an optional rescue email address. If you frequently change email addresses, it is recommended that you add a rescue email address. Learn more about the rescue email address. Once you are satisfied with the information entered, tap Next. Select None as your payment option. Continue to fill out the required email, address, and phone number fields. Tap Next. You'll then see a screen that says "Verify your Account." Tap Done, and check your email for a verification email from itunes Store. Open the email, and click the link enclosed in the email to activate your account. Once you tap the link, the App Store should automatically open and prompt you to sign in with your account name and password. 8
Setup Email Account 1. Open the Settings app and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars 2. Choose Microsoft Exchange 3. Put in the information that is required Email: County email address Domain: Madison Username: County email address Password: Computer login password If asked the server is m.outlook.com 2. When the pop-up appears, tap Continue Continue. On the next screen just tap Next 5. The next screen allows you to choose what items you would like to have synced to your ipad. Make sure that these all are turned on. 6. Now you can go back to the home screen and tap the Mail app. Once the mail app is opened all of your emails will be pulled from the server. 9
Backup overview icloud icloud automatically backs up the most important data on your ios 5 device. Once you have enabled Backup on your iphone, ipad, or ipod touch in Settings > icloud > Backup & Storage, it will run on a daily basis as long as your device: is connected to Internet over Wi-Fi is connected to a power source has the screen locked You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > icloud > Storage & Backup. What is backed up You get unlimited free storage for: Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the itunes Store, App Store, or ibookstore. Some previously purchased movies may not be available in itunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in itunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the itunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the itunes Store, App Store, or ibookstore. You get 5GB of free icloud storage for: Photos and videos in the Camera Roll Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts) App data Home screen and app organization Messages (imessage, SMS, and MMS) Ringtones You can select which applications back up their data and see how much storage space each application is using: 1. On your Home Screen, tap Settings 2. Tap icloud 3. Tap Storage & Backup 4. Tap Manage Storage 5. Select the device you want to manage 10
icloud Setup and Backup 1. Open the Settings and tap icloud 2. Put in your Apple ID and password and tap Sign In 3. Allow icloud to use your location, and then tap Storage & Backup 3. Make sure that you are connected to Wi-Fi, and turn on icloud Backup then tap Backup Up Now 11
icloud Restore 1. Once the ipad has been wiped by the Technology department, you will need to go through the new ipad setup 2. When given the option choose Restore from icloud Backup 3. Put in the Apple ID that was used to back up to icloud 4. Follow the on screen instructions and accept the Terms and Conditions 12
Self Service The Self Service app will be installed after the user has enrolled the ipad using the bookmark in Safari. This app allows us to distribute other apps that have been purchased by the county. If you have a recommendation for an app or think that a app should be added to Self Service, view the Requesting a New App section on page 3 Usage Open the Self Service app Put in your county login information Tap the app that you would like to install Tap the green install button Once the download is complete you can go back to your home screen and open the app Updating To update an app that has been installed using Self Service Open the Self Service app Login and tap Updates at the bottom of the page Tap Update All 13
Upgrading to ios 6 To download the update, open Settings and navigate to General -> Software Update. There, you see some brief information about the update and a button to install it. (If you know an update is available, but your device isn t yet showing it, you can force ios to check for an update by navigating to the Software Update screen.) You don t want your device to shut down before installation is complete, so make sure that it has 50 percent or more of its battery charge remaining, or is connected to a power source, before you start to install an update over the air. 14
