Using Toolbars Overview This section provides an overview of the features available within the Standard, Align, and Text Toolbars. Using toolbar icons is a convenient way to add and adjust label objects. The Standard Toolbar The Standard Toolbar provides all the functions you may need to create a basic label format. Click the buttons on the Standard Toolbar to execute the following actions. See Figure 1: Figure 1: Standard Toolbar To create new labels, open existing files, and save files, use: New: Create a new label. Open: Open an existing label file on your computer. Save: Save the currently opened label file to your computer. To set or adjust the label format and send labels to print, use: Label Setup: Define the label dimensions and set the printer parameters. Preview: Preview label before printing. Print: Open the Print dialog box to begin the printing process. To add objects to your label, use: Barcode: Add a barcode to the label. Click and drag the barcode to adjust the position. Text: Add a text object to the label.

Line: Click, drag and drop the mouse to draw a horizontal or vertical line. Double click the line to adjust the length, thickness, color and position. Oblique line: Click, drag and drop the mouse to draw an oblique line. Double click the line to adjust the length, thickness, color and position. Rectangle: Click, drag and drop the mouse to draw a rectangle. Double click the rectangle to adjust thickness, color, shape and position. Picture: Insert a picture to your label. Compatible file formats include: BMP, TGA, TIF, PNG, HPG, GIF, PCX and WMF. To connect your label to a database, use: Database: Connect to a database. Compatible with text files, Excel, and ODBC Data Source. The Align Toolbar The Align Toolbar provides all the functions you need to align, rotate, and move objects on the label. Click the buttons in the Align Toolbar to execute the following actions. See Figure 2: Note: Select objects to align by holding down the shift key and clicking the item. Objects will align to the last object selected. Figure 2: Align Toolbar

Align Left: Aligns all selected objects to the left edge of the last object selected. Align Top: Aligns all selected objects to the top edge of the last object selected. Align Right: Aligns all selected objects to the right edge of the last object selected. Align Bottom: Aligns all selected objects to the bottom edge of the last object selected. Align Vertical Center: Aligns all selected objects to the vertical center of the last object selected. Align Horizontal Center: Aligns all selected objects to the horizontal center of the last object selected. Rotate Left: Rotates all selected objects 90 degrees counterclockwise. Rotate 180 degrees: Rotates all selected objects 180 degrees. Rotate Right: Rotates all selected objects 90 degrees clockwise. Same Height: Adjusts all selected objects to the same height, applicable to Rectangle and Line. Same Width: Adjusts all selected objects to the same width, applicable to Rectangle and Line. Both Same: Adjusts all selected objects to the same size, applicable to Rectangle, Line and Oblique Line. Label Vert. Center: Places all the selected objects to the vertical center of the label.

Label Horiz. Center: Places all the selected objects to the horizontal center of the label. Horizontal Space: Distributes all selected objects equally in the horizontal direction. Vertical Space: Distributes all selected objects equally in the vertical direction. Move to Front: Moves the selected object to the front of other objects. Move Forward: Moves selected object to the next higher layer. Move Back: Moves selected object to the next lower layer. Move to Back: Moves selected object to the back of other objects. Label Vert. Top: Aligns selected objects to the top edge of the label. Label Horz. Left: Aligns selected objects (as a whole) to the left edge of the label. Label Vert. Bottom: Aligns selected objects (as a whole) to the bottom edge of the label. Label Horz. Right: Aligns selected objects (as a whole) to the right edge of the label. The Text Toolbar The Text Toolbar provides all the functions to change font, font size, basis formatting and text alignment for text objects. Click the Text Toolbar icons to execute the following actions. See Figure 3: Figure 3: Text Toolbar To adjust font styles and effects, use: Bold: Applies a bold effect to the selected textbox. Italic: Applies an italicized effect to the selected textbox. Underline: Applies an underline to the selected textbox. Reverse: Reverses out the text within a textbox.

Color: Assigns a color to the font used. To adjust the alignment of the text, use: Note: The Text display option, found under the Text tab of the Print Dialog box, must be set to Multi Line for the alignment tools below to take effect. Align Left: Aligns the characters in the selected object left. Align Center: Aligns the characters in the selected object center. Align Right: Aligns the characters in the selected object right. Full: Distributes the characters equally in the full range of a barcode object. See the next section, Setting Page & Label Dimensions, to learn how to format the page and label size of the label media you will be using.
