Important Information READ THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for purchasing the breathable wall light trap and blackout shutter kit. When properly assembled and maintained, this product will provide years of reliable service. These instructions include helpful hints and important information needed to safely assemble and properly maintain the kit components. Please read these instructions before you begin. If you have any questions during the assembly, contact Customer Service at 1.800.245.9881 for assistance. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Wear eye protection. Wear gloves when handling metal parts. Use a portable GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) when working with electric power tools and cords. REQUIRED TOOLS The following list identifies the main tools needed to assemble and install the breathable wall light trap and kit components (if applicable). Additional tools may be needed. Tape measure and marker. Variable speed drill (cordless with extra batteries works best) & 1/4" drill bit. Small hammer and gloves. Level (length depends on kit dimensions). 7/16" wrenches and a socket set containing 7/16" deep-well socket. Wrench set and pliers. Rivet gun. Opaque caulk or duct tape. ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE Following the instructions as presented will help ensure proper assembly. Steps outlining assembly process are as follows: 1. Verify that all parts are included in the shipment. Notify customer service for questions or concerns. 2. Read these instructions and all additional documentation included with the shipment before you begin. 3. Gather the tools and assistants. Assistants are needed to lift and hold assembly when attaching to building frame. 4. Assemble kit components. Read this document to determine what pages apply to your kit. 5. Read the care and maintenance information. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Proper care and maintenance is important. Check the following items periodically to ensure breathable wall light trap components are secure and functioning properly. Check all fasteners to verify they remain tight. Never climb or stand on any part of the light trap and its frame components. Ensure nothing blocks either side of light trap. Inspect all electrical connections and wires. Repair or replace as needed. Repair or replace loose or broken wires. For replacement or missing parts, call 1.800.245.9881 for assistance. Assembly Instructions: Vane Kit Components 1 ASSEMBLE LIGHT TRAP VANE KIT COMPONENTS ATTENTION: If kit number ends with letter A, light trap is preassembled. Skip Procedures 1 & 2 and continue with Procedure 3. Depending on size, vane kits are identified by one of these numbers: 113397, 113411, 113423, 113439, or 113450. Gather vane kit components. Review part descriptions for additional information. Complete these steps: 1. Unpack vanes keeping them in the same order as packed. 4. Slide a tube spacer onto each rod and add another vane. 5. Repeat Step 4 until all vanes are used. 2. Place one (1) rod cap nut firmly on one end of a rod. Use a nut driver (or similar tool) and a hammer to seat cap on rod. Repeat to install a cap on one end of each remaining rods. 6. After installing all vanes, install a cap nut on the end of each rod to secure final vane. 3. With assistance, stand rods upright with cap nuts at the bottom. Place one vane over all rods. Vane Spacer ATTENTION: Before installing cap nut, determine if a 3/8" spacer is needed. Vanes should be tight once final cap nut is installed. Cap Nut 7. Finally, turn assembled vane kit so vanes are vertical. 8. Continue by assembling vane kit frame. Assembly Instructions: Vane Kit Frame 2 ASSEMBLE LIGHT TRAP VANE KIT FRAME Gather parts: ATTENTION: If kit number ends with letter A, light trap 116139 rivets is pre-assembled. Skip Procedures 1 & 2 and continue with Procedure 3. Light trap frame top/bottom panels (2) Complete these steps: Light trap frame side panels (2) 1. Use diagram below to assemble frame. Secure frame using rivets and customer supplied rivet gun. B Light trap aluminum angle (sides) (2) Light trap aluminum angle (top/bottom) (2) 2. Attach aluminum angles to top and bottom frame panels first using rivets. NOTE: Aluminum angle for top and bottom panels will extend beyond panel edges as shown. A A 3. Next attach aluminium angle to side panels in place using rivets. 4. Attach light trap to building. 2 3 B 1 ATTENTION: Bottom aluminum angle includes a grommet hole for the cable to pass through for motorized shutter applications. Install 113392 grommet into hole. Assembly Instructions: 115426, 115427, & 115428 (including A kits) 3 INSTALL MOTORIZED SHUTTER & LIGHT TRAP Complete Procedure 3 to install shutter assembly and light trap. Consult instructions that shipped with the shutter and shutter motor to install those items. See alternate location on next page for shutter installation before following the manufacture's instructions. Complete these steps: 1. Measure shutter. Frame rough opening accordingly. Tek screws are to secure to metal framing. Contact your sales representative to purchase different fasteners for framing that is wood or other material, or purchase fasteners locally. 2. Install end wall cladding and cut opening in cladding for shutter installation. Tek Screws FA4484B 3. Apply a bead of sealant around shutter opening. See dashed line above. 3 INSTALL Assembly Instructions: 115426, 115427, & 115428 (including A kits) MOTORIZED SHUTTER & LIGHT TRAP continued 8. Attach cable to shutter as described in the instruction included with shutter and shutter motor. 5. Carefully lift assembled light trap up to shutter position and align light trap with shutter. 6. While holding light trap against frame, have an assistant test the operation of the shutters to ensure they do not contact light trap vanes. ATTENTION: If shutter contacts light trap vanes, mark light trap mounting flange position on frame and add frame material to jamb out the opening to allow for proper shutter operation. 7. Attach shutter motor and pulley to frame below shutter assembly. Construct additional framing as needed to provide a mounting surface. Light Trap Jamb Material (if needed) AS5075 Pulley Cable Shutter Motor Shutter as seen from inside building. ATTENTION: Use cable included with shutter and blackout kit to judge motor and pulley positions on frame. Ensure all pulleys align with center arm of shutter where cable attaches. Ensure shutter operates smoothly and does not bind or contact frame. Secure pulley and motor using FA4482B Tek screws for metal frame. ATTENTION: Allow free end of cable to hang freely from shutter. Drill a 7/16" hole through bottom panel for shutter cable. Use hole in mounting angle as a guide. 11. With assistance, carefully lift light trap assembly up to frame where it will be attached. 12. Have an assistant thread the free end of shutter cable through grommet. 13. Center light trap over frame. Use a level if needed to ensure light trap is level and square on frame and over shutter assembly. Top Top Attach this side to frame. Install 113392 grommet in hole drilled in previous step. 113392 Grommet 14. While light trap is held in place, have an assistant pull shutter cable to ensure shutters operate freely. After confirming smooth shutter operation, secure light trap to frame using FA4482B Tek screws. 16. Contact an electrician to connect shutter motor to power.
