THE APPLICATION SUITE RVS-COM LITE 4 The Application Suite RVS-COM Lite With your Auerswald USB device comes an application suite which fully utilizes the features of the integrated USB interface. All important functionality of modern data communication (fax, telephone, answering machine, data transfer, the Internet) can be used in a professional way on the PC. Minimum Requirements for your PC PC with Intel Pentium 166 or compatible processor 16 MB RAM memory, 24 MB recommended 25 MB minimum free disk space before installation; for proper use, at least 16 MB disk space for virtual memory (swap file) should be available Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 USB interface according to USB specification 1.1 CD-ROM drive mouse or compatible pointer device SVGA graphic board with 640*480 resolution and 16 colours/grey scales Getting started 1st Step: Connecting the Auerswald USB device to the PC Connect the Auerswald USB device (e. g. COMfort 2000) to the PC as described in the device manual and switch both devices on.

5 2nd Step: Install the Auerswald USB driver If Once you connected the Auerswald USB device to your PC, the Add New Hardware Wizard of Windows 98 will be launched automatically (Plug and Play). You will be assisted to install the necessary drivers. Continue as described at label. the Auerswald USB driver was installed before (e. g. because you used the USB interface with your Auerswald USB device and with the configuration program before), the Add New Hardware Wizard will not be launched. Continue with the 3rd Step on Page 7. The Add New Hardware Wizard of Windows 98 was launched automatically. Click on Next. Select the Search for the best driver for your device. Click on Next. Insert the CD (Auerswald Mega Disk) into the CD- ROM drive.

6 Select Specify a location and click on Browse.... Search on the CD for the directory \Treiber...\. Click on Next. Once the driver is found, you will be asked to continue. Click on Next. The necessary files will be copied. Wait and click on Finish.

7 3rd Step: Install the Auerswald CAPI 2.0 Driver Insert the CD (Auerswald Mega Disk) into the CD-ROM drive. If the Setup program does no launch automatically, start the command line with Start...Run. Click on Search and open the CD-ROM drive. Select the application Setup in the root directory by double click. Then click on OK. Follow the instructions on the screen. You will find the Auerswald CAPI 2.0 driver near the software for the attached device (e. g. for the device COMfort 2000 under Software for the COMfort 2000 ). 4th Step: Installation of the Application Suite RVS-COM Lite Insert the CD (RVS-COM Lite) into the CD-ROM drive. If the Setup program does no launch automatically, start the command line with Start...Run. Click on Search and open the CD-ROM drive. Select the application Setup in the root directory by double click. Then click on OK. Follow the instructions on the screen. 5th Step: Settings in the Configuration Wizard The Configuration Wizard will usually be launched after the installation of the application suite RVS-COM Lite. If this is not the case, you can start it with Start...programs...RVS-COM Lite.... Select in the first dialog the User defined Configuration and carry out the configuration of the individual Auerswald USB devices as described in: Configuration of the Auerswald USB device COMfort 2000 (Page 8) Configuration of the Auerswald USB device COMpact 2104 USB (Page 13)

8 Configuration of the Auerswald USB Device COMfort 2000 Please check your area code in the dialog Location (Important: without leading 0 ) and in To dial out, I use: the access code 0 of your PBX, that is connected to your COMfort 2000. If these are not correct, click on Change, and carry out the changes in Location Setup and accept these with OK. Activate the check box My ISDN adapter is used in a.... Click on Next. The check box My ISDN adapter is connected to a PBX with... in the dialog PBX System must be deactivated! Click on Next.

9 For the settings in the dialog Phone Numbers it is necessary to have knowledge of the configuration of the COMmander Basic. It might be necessary to modify this configuration. PBX number 1 usually is the internal number of the telephone which is the MSN configured in the COMfort 2000. In the entry field to the right the same number should be reentered. PBX number 2 and 3 should be assigned to two internal numbers that are reserved for this special purpose. These numbers have to be configured with COMmander Set in Internal Numbers with the device type ISDN PC controller on the internal S 0 bus of the telephone. (It might be possible to drop the 3rd number; see label on Page 10.). The call distribution must assign each of the three internal numbers a different exchange line number. Click on Next.

10 In the dialog Call Charges the check box Deliver charges information... should be activated. Enter the charge price per unit and click on Next. In the dialog Outgoing Call Number the check box The phone number you are going... should be selected. If you selected no MSN in the PBX configuration this has priority. Even then the setting No phone number... is not recommended in this dialog. In the dialog Autoanswer Phone Numbers the already registered telephone numbers will be distributed to the various services. In Answerphone, phone MSN1:... will be selected. That means the telephone number with which you can also reach the telephone. No other service must use this telephone number! If some of these services will not be used (e.g. because you would not like to use the PC as data file transfer server) please select <none> by all means. Click on Next. <none>

11 In the following dialog Faxes and Voice Mail you should use the selection RVS Inbox.... Then you click on Next. In the following dialog Fax you will have to make some personal data for the use on your fax cover pages. Then you click on Next. In the following dialog Answerphone you enter the time after that your calls should be taken. Then you click on Next.

12 If you do not like to use your PC as data transfer server, please deactivate the check box in the dialog File Transfer Autoanswer. for Enable autoanswer for file transfer. Then you click on Next. The configuration is finished. Click on Finish.

13 Configuration of the Auerswald USB Device COMpact 2104 USB Enter your area code (Important: without the first 0 ) in the dialog Location. Do not enter any preceding 0. Therefore click on Change, make the changes in the dialog Multiple Subscriber Numbers and confirm these with OK. Deactivate the check box My ISDN adapter is used in a private.... Click on Next. Enter the external telephone numbers which you have got from the service providers in the dialog Phone numbers (Without area code) Here you enter the external telephone number of the subscriber whose call should be taken by the answering machine under Phone number 1. Then you enter two further external telephone numbers which you would like to use as fax number or as telephone number for the data transfer. Enter them under phone number 2 and phone number 3 (Perhaps you can drop a third telephone number; look at point 5 on page 10). Click on Next.

14 In the dialog Call Charges you should activate the check box Deliver charges information.... Besides this enter the price for one unit and click on Next. In the dialog Outgoing Call Number you should select The phone number you are going to set up....

15 In the dialog Autoanswer Phone Numbers the telephone numbers which were registered will be assigned to the various services. Under Answerphone, phone MSN 1:... will be selected. This telephone number must not be used by any other service! If some of these services will not be used (f.e because you do not like to use the PC as data transfer server), you should enter <none> for these in any case. Click on Next. <none> In the following dialog Fax there are some personal details requested for the use on your fax cover pages. Then you click on Next.

16 In the following dialog Answerphone you enter the time after that your calls should be taken. Then you click on Next. If you do not like to use your PC as data transfer server, please deactivate the... Enable autoanswer for file transfer in the dialog File Transfer Autoanswer by all means. Then you click on Next. All settings are entered. Click on Finish.

17 6th Step: Check proper Function in the CommCenter After the configuration the CommCenter of RVS- COM Lite will be started automatically. Click on the symbol for the CommCenter in the Windows task bar in order to open this overview. Here the communication services with the corresponding telephone numbers will be shown. With the Auerswald USB device COMfort 2000 you have external telephone numbers (as you can see in the example above) With the Auerswald USB device COMfort 2000 you have internal telephone numbers here. The activated services must have a green hook! If not and if there are only red crosses the Auerswald CAPI driver was not installed correctly. Please review this installation (see Page 7).

CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET Connecting to the Internet 18 You can connect your Auerswald USB device and a PC with the internet. In the following you can read how to connect them and which kind of preparation will have to do in order to realize the essentials which are necessary for the internet access. Requirements for Internet access First contact a Internet Service Provider (ISP) of yor choice in order to get the following information: your user name and your password your ISDN dial-up number Protocol characteristics like Host name, domain name, address of the domain name server, IP address, Gateway address. Some Internet Service Providers requires a registration in order to get an internet user account there. The connection between PC and Auerswald USB unit must be contacted and the installations described in paragraph The Application Suite RVS-COM Lite on page 4 must be done. Internet access with Dial-Up Network 1st Step: Check available Network Components Carry out the order the command Start... Settings... Control Panel in the task bar. Then you click twice the symbol Network. In the dialog Network you activate the register card Configuration.

19 Check the entries in the list. By all means the following two components must be installed: 1. Dial-Up network adapter and 2.TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter * * (or only TCP/IP). If both components needed are already installed, continue with the 3rd step: Installation of a Connection in the Dial-Up Network on Page 21. Click on Cancel. If the necessary components as shown in the picture opposite do not exist you will have to install the Dial-Up Network first. See on Page 20. Click on Cancel.

20 2nd Step: Dial-Up Network Setup Carry out the command Start... Settings...Control Panel in the task line. Then you click twice on Software. Activate the register card Windows Setup in the dialog Software. Select Communications in the list components and click on Details then. Select the component Dial-Up Network in the dialog Communications. Click on OK. (If you installed Windows from a CD ROM, you will be asked to put the Windows CD into the disk drive.) Check once again the already existing network components. (see Page 18).

21 3rd Step: Installation of a Connection in the Dial-Up Network Click twice on the symbol My Computer on the desktop. Click twice on Dial-Up Networking. If you have already configured a Dial-Up Network connection, click twice on the symbol Make new Connection in order to build up a new connection. Otherwise the here shown dialog will appear and you will have to click on Next. Name the new connection (e.g. the name of the internet service providers). Select the unit RVS ISDN Internet PPP out of the list. Click on Next.

22 Here you enter the ISDN dial-up number of your internet service provider under Area code and Telephone number. Take care that you enter the area code without the leading 0. (Some internet service providers offer different dial-up numbers for the analog or the ISDN access. Therefore take care of entering the number for the ISDN access.) Click on Next. Click on Finish.

23 4th Step: Configure a Connection in the Dial-Up Network Double click on My Computer on the desktop. Double click on Dial- Up Networking. Click on the symbol for the new created connection with the right mouse key and select Properties out of the opened popup menu.

24 Activate the card Server Types. Select PPP: Internet Windows NT Server, Windows 98 under Type of Dial-Up Server. Activate Enable software compression under Advanced options and deactivate the other options. Activate the selection TCP/IP under Allowed network protocols and deactivate the other protocols. Click on OK. If your internet service provider assigns a static IP address, you will have to enter this under TCP/IP Settings.

25 5th Step: Dial-up to the Internet If you have got a CD from your internet service provider, put it into the CD disk drive. If necessary, the here described process will change. The RVS CommCenter must be active for the dial-up to the internet. Normally this happens after the PC has started (yellow-blue-red symbol in the task line). If you closed it, you can activate it again: Execute the order Start... Programs... RVS COM Lite... CommCenter. Click on OK in the next dialog. Click twice on the symbol My Computer on the desktop. Click twice on Dial- Up networking. Click twice for the newly created connection on the symbol.

26 Enter the user name offered by the internet service provider (if it exists) under User name. Enter the password offered by the internet service provider (if it exists) under Password. Click on Connect.
