Alpha Tally Developer Installation An Introduction Tally.Developer 9 installation is a simple procedure which will be explained in detail. On successful installation of Tally.Developer 9, a shortcut is placed on the desktop, a folder titled Tally.Developer 9 is created in the selected drive and all the files required to run Tally.Developer 9 are stored in this default folder. Alternatively, one can also specify another path, if required. The installation of Tally Developer 9, can be done in various ways based on the requirement as follows: Pre-Installation Installing Tally.Developer 9 on a standalone machine Installing Tally.Developer 9 on a Multi-user environment Installing Tally.Developer 9 License Server Installing Tally.Developer 9 Application 1. Pre Installation Before installing Tally.Developer 9, please ensure that basic operational rights on the system i.e., read, write access is available. The hardware requirements and operating system required for a Client Server and a standalone computer are as listed below: 1.1 Minimum Hardware Requirements for Tally.Developer 9 Processor Memory Intel Pentium IV or above and Equivalent 256 MB RAM (Recommended 512 MB or more) Free Hard Disk Space 40 MB Minimum Monitor Resolutions 800 x 600 (Recommended 1024 x 768 or Higher) 1

1.2 Operating Systems Supported Single User Multi-User Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/2003/2008/XP/Vista License Server can be installed only on Windows NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista 2. Installing Tally.Developer 9 on a Standalone Machine You can install Tally.Developer 9 using the following method: 1. Double click the install.exe icon. 2. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.Developer 9. The Tally Developer 9 Setup Wizard screen is displayed as shown: 2

3. Click Next to proceed with the installation. On clicking Next, the following screen appears: In the Programs section, ensure that Tally.Developer 9 is selected. New Installation appears as Title for fresh installation or installation in a new folder. If Tally.Developer 9 is already installed on the system, the header is displayed as Upgradation. In the Application Directory, you can either Accept the directory that appears by default i.e., C:\Tally.Developer9 OR Click the browse button and choose an existing directory OR Type in the Path as required If the specified path is not found, Installer creates a new folder as specified by you. 3

Tally.Developer 9 can be installed in two different environments. Single user environment and Multi user enviroment. If it is a single user environment, it is not required to install License server. Select Don t use License Server from License Server Details section and specify the License Directory path as shown in the following. If the system is in a multi user environment select the option Use License server from the License Server Details section and specify the license server details, ie Name/IP and Port, which the license server is installed. 4. Select the option "Use License Server" and specify the System Name or IP address and Port as shown in following screen: 4

5. After specifying the required path, click on Install button. 6. The Setup Status screen appears as shown. 7. The installer screen, now displays two buttons, Continue and Finish. Select Continue to install the License Server and Finish to complete the setup. 5

8. Select the check box "Launch Tally.Developer 9?" and click on the Finish button to complete the set up and start Tally.Developer. 6

An icon named Tally.Developer 9 is found on the Desktop on completion. Double Click on the same to start working with Tally.Developer 9. While installing Tally.Developer 9 on a Single user environment, ensure that you are not selected the option Use License Server. 2.1 Activating License on Standalone machine On installation, next step is to activate the license. License activation on a stand alone machine can be done from the application itself. Please follow the procedures given below: Run Tally.Developer 9 To start the Tally.Developer 9 any of the following method can be used : Method 1: 1. Double-click on Tally.Developer 9 icon from the Desktop Method 2: 1. Click Start from Windows Toolbar. 2. Select Programs >Tally.Developer 9 >Tally.Developer 9 as shown in the following screen: Method 3: 1. Click Start from Windows Toolbar 7

2. Select Run as shown: Type the path in which Tally.Developer 9 is installed, lets say, C:\Tally.Developer9\tallydeveloper.exe in the Open text box. Press ENTER or click on the button OK. License Activation When Tally.Developer 9 is running for the first time following screen appears: 8

Activating License is a two step process i.e., Activate the License and Unlock the License. Activate License 1. Enter the Serial No, Activation Key and the Email ID in the Following dialog box: Serial Number and Activation Key are available in the mail. 2. After the successful activation, the following screen is displayed: 9

The Tally.Developer 9 is now running in Educational Mode as displayed on the status bar. In the Project window only My Workspace is displayed. The Unlock License Key to activate the Tally.Developer 9 license and the Password are mailed separately to the email id provided in the activation form. 10

3. Following screen shows the email format: Unlocking the License Unlocking the License is the second step of License activation. After Unlocking the License the Tally.Developer 9 will be in the license mode. Steps to Unlock the License: 1. Select License > Unlock from the menu bar in Tally.Developer 9 as shown. 11

2. The Unlock License Dialog box is displayed. 3. Enter the Unlock License Key received in the email as shown: 12

4. On the status bar the License and Version information is displayed as shown: In the Project window now Default TDL project is also displayed. If the license activation is done through Proxy Server then the license server should point to the URL of the Proxy Server. The URL of Proxy Server can be specified using the Tally Admin Tool. 13

3. Installing Tally.Developer 9 in a Multi User Environment In a multi user environment Tally.Developer 9 can be installed based on the following scenarios: Case 1: Installing License server and Tally.Developer 9 on the same system Case 2: Installing Tally.Developer 9 and License Server on different systems 3.1 Installing License server and Tally.Developer 9 on the same system Installing License Server You can install License Server using the following method: 1. Double-click the install.exe icon. 2. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.Developer 9. The Tally Developer 9 Setup Wizard screen is displayed as shown: 14

3. Click Next to proceed with the installation and select the option License Server from the programs section. In the Programs section it displays the description about the license server to be installed. In the License Server Setup section its displays the details about the existing license server. 4. To use common License Folder for more than one Tally product, select the check box. 5. Specify the License Server Directory and the Port number. By default it displays the port number as 9999, which can be changed if required. 15

6. Click on the Next button. The list of license servers which are installed on the system is displayed. The user can select the license server to un-install from the list. 7. Click on the Install button. 8. After the installation following screen is displayed: 9. Click on the Finish button. 16

Activating Tally.Developer 9 License Tally.Developer 9 License can be activated using any of the following methods: Method 1: Activate the Tally.Developer 9 License as explained in the section Activating License on Standalone system. Method 2: Activate the license for Tally.Developer 9 License Server using the Tally Admin tool. 1. To activate the Tally.Developer 9 License server go to the folder where the License server is installed. Select the Tally Admin Tool from the folder as shown: 2. Following Tally Admin screen is displayed : 17

3. Select "Tally.Developer 9" from the product list as shown: 18

4. Click on the Activate button from the tool bar. Following screen is displayed. 5. Select the option First time activation for your organization and click on the button Continue. Following screen is displayed : For the further process please refer to the section Activating License. Installing Tally.Developer 9 Tally.Developer 9 Installation is same as explained in the section "Installing Tally.Developer 9 in a standalone system". After the Tally.Developer 9 installation is complete the following screen is displayed. 19

The installer screen, now displays two buttons, Continue and Finish. Select Continue to install the License Server and Finish to complete the setup. Select the check box "Launch Tally.Developer 9?" and click on the Finish button to complete the set up and start Tally.Developer 9. 20

3.2. Installing License server andtally.developer 9 on different system In this scenario the Tally.Developer application and the License server are installed on different systems. Only the Tally.Developer 9 License Server is installed on one system and all other systems, which have the Tally.Developer applications, access license from this system. On the Client system only the Tally.Developer 9 application is installed. The steps that are to be followed are as follows: Installing only the Tally.Developer 9 License Server New Installation Upgrade Activating license for Tally.Developer 9 License Server Installing only the Tally.Developer 9 Installing Tally.Developer 9 License Server New Installation From the Setup screen, in the Programs section, the License Server is selected as shown: 1. To install only the Tally.Developer 9 License Server select the option License Server in the Programs section of the Tally.Developer 9 Setup screen. 2. For the further process please refer to the section "Installing Tally.Developer 9 in a standalone system". 21

3. Accept the default License Server Directory and Port Number or enter the required License Server Directory name and Port Number in the Tally.Developer 9 setup screen. The Port number provided during installation is captured and displayed as a parameter to LicenseServer in the Developer.ini file. Installing Tally.Developer 9 License Server Upgrade The installation process differs a little if the license server is installed in the same folder as that of previous build. Tally.Developer 9 License Server installation process is same as explained in the section "Installing Tally.Developer 9 in a standalone system". 1. The only change is that, after clicking on the next button the following screen is displayed: 22

2. Click on the Yes button as the old License Server won't support the Tally.Developer 9 build 38. Tally.Developer 9 build 38 requires the new Multi-Product License Server for serving license. The old license server i.e.tally License Server 2.0-TD won't support Tally.Developer 9 build 38 onwards. The new Multi - Product License Server will only support Tally.Developer 9 build 38 onwards. For the previous builds use Tally License Server 2.0-TD license server. Activating License for Tally.Developer 9 License Server Activate the Tally.Developer License as explained in the section Activating Tally.Developer 9 License Installing Tally.Developer 9 Application Tally.Developer 9 installation on the clients which access license from the system where the License Server is installed is same as explained in the section "Installing Tally.Developer 9 in a standalone system". 23

The only change is that the option "Use License Server" is to be selected as shown in the following screen: The license server IP address or name of the system and the Port number is to be specified. On the successful installation of Tally.Developer 9 Help manuals and samples are available in the Tally.Developer 9 folder. The help manuals are also available in the Help menu of Tally.Developer 9. 24
