Low Maintenance Alternative Mailbox Post General Information If you were not able to attend the meeting on September 11, 2014 that introduced the new alternative mailbox post and you are interested in ordering a post for installation please be sure to read the fact sheet that follows. It describes the post and the materials of which it is constructed; it describes what is included in your purchase and the installation process. To order an alternative post for installation please complete the order form that follows. Please give the completed order form and a check made out to ORMA for $380 to Gail Miller in the POL office. If you have any questions regarding the post itself, installation or cost please direct those questions to Hugh Carano (910-575-1063) or Ralph DiVito (910-579-2435)
Low Maintenance Alternative Mailbox Post Fact Sheet Mailbox Post - Manufactured from extruded High Density Polyethylene the alternative post is solid (not hollow) and is impregnated with black pigment throughout the material. This same material is used in posts in playgrounds. The alternative post is low maintenance, durable, machine notched and custom constructed to match the existing wooden mailbox post. The newspaper tube and the decorative brace are made from ¾ HDPE board, which is manufactured from the same material. The entire alternative post unit weighs approximately 85 pounds and as a result it will be mounted in cement in the ground. Installation includes the following Removal and disposal of old wooden post Installation of new alternative post including the necessary cement Transfer of existing mailbox to the new alternative post New numbers Cost for alternative mailbox post and installation as outlined above ORMA anticipates that most property owners who wish to replace their wooden posts with the new alternative post will place their orders in the days and weeks after the initial introduction of the alternative post. This will assure the availability of the current $380 cost/installation price per post because of the volume being ordered for installation. In the coming months and years if a single property owner wishes to make the change to the alternative post they may be subject to a higher cost/installation price. In that event ORMA will try to stockpile such orders for a reasonable length of time in order to obtain a lower cost/installation price per unit. If an order is placed by ORMA for installation of 3 or 4 posts at the same time the cost will be $440 per post If an order is placed by ORMA for installation of 1 or 2 posts at the same time the cost will be $480 per post At this time there is no change to the mailbox that is required to be used. We have been unsuccessful to date in finding a maintenance free mailbox that is close enough in appearance to the existing mailbox to be acceptable to the Architectural Standards Committee. At installation Carolina Streetscapes will transfer your existing mailbox to the new post. If you want a new mailbox at the time of installation (same model as currently required) that can be ordered at the time you order the post for an additional cost of $60. The total cost would then be $440 which would have to be remitted by check with your order.
