Software Announcement January 28, 2003 IBM Software Maintenance for AIX Operating Systems Entitles You to Remote Technical Support Plus Current and Future Upgrades; New H5 Processor Group Added to Selected Programs Overview Each new configured IBM pseries system with an AIX operating system includes one year of Software Maintenance for AIX Operating Systems (SWMA). This support is also available for customers with existing AIX operating system licenses. SWMA offers: Software upgrade entitlement within coverage period for eligible AIX operating system software Access to IBM remote technical software support Processor-based pricing based on number of active processors running AIX per system Entitlement beginning with your new pseries hardware installation date Coverage options: One year or three years All new configured pseries server purchases with an AIX operating system selected comes standard with a minimum one year of SWMA. A three year coverage option is also available and will be the default for orders placed in the configurator. SWMA replaces the existing IBM Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription (5771-AIX and 5773-AIX) offering. Existing AIX subscription customers can: Continue with existing contracts until expiration Renew by ordering the then-current IBM SWMA offering IBM also announces a new H5 processor group for the pseries High Availability Geographic Cluster and Geographic Remote Mirror for AIX (HAGEO/GeoRM), V2, High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing for AIX 5L (HACMP), V4, and Parallel System Support Programs for AIX (PSSP), V3 licensed programs. Description Software Maintenance IBM SWMA with one- or three-year contracts helps you to maintain software version and release currency. In addition, SWMA provides voice support during normal business hours. During the contract period you can receive all software product versions, release upgrades, and product refreshes announced including voice support. If you allow either the one- or three-year software maintenance offering to expire without renewal, a Software Maintenance After-License Fee option can enable reinstatement in the IBM SWMA offering. SWMA combines software subscription and technical support, formerly (Support Line). The price of SWMA (either one year or three years) will appear on ordering configuration tools as two priced program numbers (one covering support and the other subscription). In addition to the two one-year program numbers and the two three-year program numbers, there will also be a program number representing after-license fee, which needs to be ordered in addition to the regular two program numbers if subscription coverage lapses. One year of SWMA is included with each new AIX operating system license. Since SWMA includes software subscription and technical support, existing customers should purchase SWMA if they want AIX operating system software upgrades or remote technical software support for their AIX operating system. The components that make up SWMA (technical support and software subscription) will not generally be offered separately. SWMA is not transferable outside of the customer enterprise or country. Existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Software Subscription, Support Line, and ServiceSuite contracts will not be required to migrate to SWMA. All existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Software Subscription, Support Line, and ServiceSuite contracts will be honored through their termination date. However, customers are offered a transition discount that takes into account the remaining time on existing support contracts. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the transition discount while it is available. Customers will then have the latest offering available to them. SWMA covers all currently marketed and supported releases. For clarification or special requests related to the content or pricing of SWMA, contact your IBM representative. Definition of Software Upgrade: An upgrade is either a new version (4.x.x to 5.x.x) or a new release (5.1.x to 5.2.x) of an AIX operating system announced as eligible under the IBM SWMA offering. SWMA entitles you to upgrades from withdrawn AIX operating system versions and releases to currently available and future AIX operating system versions and releases. Software upgrades will not be shipped to you automatically. You must order upgrades you are entitled to through normal channels. Refer to the Ordering Information section for details on how to order. Note: Software preventive maintenance releases x.x.1 to x.x.2 (modification level changes, updates, or refreshes) are available under the one-year or three-year SWMA subscription program numbers when supply features are announced or when content of an existing supply feature is changed. Preventive maintenance releases can be obtained by SWMA customers in the same manner as non-software Maintenance customers. Refer to the Ordering Information section for details. IBM may announce a product that can be substituted for an enrolled product. This product is neither a new version, new release, nor a preventive maintenance release of that enrolled product. IBM may provide those customers enrolled in the IBM SWMA offering access to this product at a discounted rate. The terms of this transaction will be included in the new product announcement. IBM will not offer stand-alone upgrades as a standard product offering. Contract Duration: The IBM SWMA contracts are offered for one or three years. The one- or three-year prepay option can be selected or purchased respectively, at the same time a license for an eligible AIX operating system is acquired. Refunds do not apply if cancellation occurs during a oneor three-year contract period. Customers are not required to renew under either the one- or three-year offering when the contract expires, but must use the after-license option should the contract expire and you want to acquire a new version or release of an eligible AIX operating system. If the one- or three-year contracts are not renewed, the one- or three-year contracts will be removed from IBM administrative systems. Contract transfers within an enterprise are allowed. IBM SWMA Prices: The IBM SWMA program prices are processor-based with price times quantity of active processors utilized. No proration is allowed. As new AIX operating system licenses are added, a new one-year SWMA contract will be included with those licenses or a three-year SWMA may be purchased. If additional processors are activated or added to an existing system, a new AIX operating system license (and the included one-year or optional three-year SWMA contract) must be ordered to cover those processors. 203-015 -2-
Adding Previously Installed Licenses to an Existing Contract: You cannot add installed product licenses to a contract that were not initially covered by an existing contract. These licenses should be added using the Software Maintenance After-License Fee program number plus new and separate SWMA contracts. The subscription and support expires when the originally dated SWMA contracts are not renewed. Transition from Existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription Offering Until July 31, 2003, as existing one-year contracts for IBM Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription (5771-AIX) under which you purchased subscription for AIX become eligible for renewal, you are encouraged to move to the new SWMA offering. You will be allowed to move to the new offering by ordering the subscription/renewal and support/renewal features under the SWMA subscription and support program numbers without having to order or pay a penalty under the Software Maintenance After-License Fee program number. However, if required, you can renew your existing Enhanced Software Subscription for AIX offering contract for an additional one year or three years. To facilitate the transition to SWMA, discounts are provided. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of these transition discounts while they are available. After July 31, 2003, as existing contracts for IBM Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription (5771-AIX or 5773-AIX) under which you purchased subscription for AIX become eligible for renewal, you must move to the new SWMA offering to ensure continuation of entitlement. As long as the existing contract has not expired, you can move to the new offering by ordering the subscription/renewal and support/renewal features under either of the one- or three-year options using the new subscription (5771-SUB or 5773-SUB) and support (5771-SPT or 5773-SPT) program numbers associated with SWMA. Remote Technical Software Support Technical support is included as an integral part of SWMA. It can supplement your support staff with telephone support for routine installation, usage (how-to) questions, and code-related problems. This support applies to IBM entitled software only. This new offering is called IBM Software Maintenance for AIX Operating Systems (SWMA) and offers customers one- or three-year one-time-charge () subscription and support. Subscription and support cannot be purchased separately under the SWMA offering. Customers ordering new licenses for AIX V4.3, AIX 5L V5.1 or V5.2 with a new pseries hardware system must order IBM SWMA. Examples The SWMA charge is based on the processor group for the system and the number of active processors running AIX. If a customer has a system that is LPAR capable like the p630, p650, p655, p670, and p690, then the customer must specify the number of processors that will be running AIX. For example, a customer could order a 16-way p670 and have a Linux partition with four processors dedicated to the Linux operating system and the remaining 12 processors running AIX. In this case, the number of active processors is 12 for calculating the SWMA price. If the customer increases the number of processors dedicated to AIX, then the customer needs to notify IBM for a new SWMA contract to cover the additional processors. If the customer chooses to reduce the number of processors running AIX, there is no credit. The same thing is true for systems that have Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) (p660-6m1, p670, and p690). If a customer activates inactive processors and the processors are running AIX, the customer needs to notify IBM for a new SWMA contract to cover the additional processors running AIX. If a system does not support LPAR or CUoD, all processors are assumed to be active. Upgrades Upgrades from previous versions of AIX to AIX 5L V5.2 are only available through IBM SWMA (5771-SUB and 5771-SPT or 5773-SUB and 5773-SPT) or, if entitled by contract: IBM Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription (5771-AIX or 5773-AIX) IBM Software Subscription for AIX (5692-SSO) Software Upgrade Protection Plan for AIX and UNIX Operating System Based Software (5692-ADV) Upgrade charges under IBM SWMA are based on processor groups and the number of processors activated within a system, including SP systems that are based on the number of processors to be used in each node. Eligible customers are encouraged to order MES upgrades by visiting Web site: http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/ nav?fetch=supn Additionally, eligible customers may request upgrades by calling 800-879-2755. Before you call this number, IBM Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) requires all AIX licensed programs installed on any RS/6000 or pseries hardware be installed for your appropriate hardware and software serial numbers on AAS. If these conditions are met, SDF will enter an order and will process the installation of the MES. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. mountain time. SDF requests the following information from the caller: Verification of customer name and number. Verification of ship-to address (for a permanent address change, the local IBM office must be contacted). Examples of changes that SDF will make are: Number of software shipments to be generated RS/6000 or pseries hardware and software systems serial numbers Expected shipment/receipt date Expedited software delivery requests The local IBM office is responsible for: Permanent address change New chargeable software order requests Contract discontinuance If SDF is unable to fulfill a request, SDF will refer you to an IBM representative or to contact your IBM Reseller and request that an MES order be processed to add the applicable media supply feature numbers from the tables below under your existing 5771-SUB or 5773-SUB record. These discounts apply to the purchase of SWMA only. The following terms and conditions apply: 1. When purchasing a one-year or three-year SWMA contract, a discount may apply if you are migrating from a qualifying existing IBM Enhanced AIX Software Subscription contract, which includes: 3 Year: 5771-AIX 1 Year: 5773-AIX 2. The discounts, when eligible, will apply to the subscription and support charges that make up SWMA: 5771-SUB Software Subscription for AIX 1-Year 5771-SPT Software Support for AIX 1-Year 5773-SUB Software Subscription for AIX 3-Year 5773-SPT Software Support for AIX 3-Year 3. The discount amount will be calculated based on the migration of a single IBM Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription contract to a single new SWMA contract. For consolidation of multiple existing contracts into a single new contract, submit a special bid request. 4. When a discount is applied to the purchase of a new SWMA contract in consideration of the remaining term of an existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Subscription contract, the existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Software Subscription contract will be cancelled upon installation of the new SWMA contract. This will establish a new contract anniversary date for SWMA. It will not be possible to maintain the anniversary date of the existing Enhanced AIX Operating System Software Subscription contract. 5. ServiceSuite contracts that are cancelled or adjusted as a result of migrating to SWMA contracts will be credited separately. 6. The discount of converting a Enhanced AIX Operating System Software Subscription contract to an SWMA contract cannot be used in combination with other promotions or discounts (such as IVO).
