MANAGING MAPLE DOCUMENTS Worksheet or Document mode SAVING A MAPLE DOCUMENT These steps apply if you are saving a Maple document for the first time. Otherwise, see NOTE below. Either: From the menu bar, click File to open the File menu, then click Save, or Click on the button in the toolbar. A dialog box appears similar to that below: To save a Maple document, follow these steps: Next to Save in:, choose the location in which to save the document (drive, folder). IMPORTANT: If you are on a WebFX lab computer, change the location in which to store the files to the H: drive (network drive), e.g., x2010abc$ on juno (H:). If you have portable storage (e.g., portable or external hard drive, USB Flash Drive, etc ), you may also save to those locations if you wish, at your own risk. DO NOT store them in My Documents or elsewhere on the C: drive on a lab computer because the files will be deleted once you log off). In the white bar next to File name there should be a " " cursor blinking (if not, click on the white bar). This is where you enter a filename for the worksheet, e.g. LAB ASSIGNMENT 5, LAB1. You may use long filenames with spaces if you like. Next to Files of type:, Maple Worksheet (.mw) should be displayed. In the Standard interface, Maple files are saved with the extension.mw by default. This applies to files saved in both Worksheet and Document modes in Maple 13. Click the Save button to save the file. NOTE: If you have a previously saved worksheet currently open, then selecting File Save will overwrite that worksheet with the current worksheet (no dialog box appears). If you want to save the worksheet under a different name, you should select File Save as... then follow the procedure above.
NOTE: If you have multiple documents open in the Maple window, the Save procedure only saves the active document. You will have to save each document individually. AUTO-SAVE FEATURE You can manually save your work to a file and have Maple automatically save your worksheet(s), in case something goes wrong (e.g., Maple crashes or freezes). The worksheet must first be manually saved with a filename before the auto-save feature will work: Auto-save is usually activated by default. To check: Go to Tools Options 1. Select General tab 2. Check Auto save every 3 minutes (change the frequency of auto-save if you like) 3. Then click Apply Globally
AutoSave saves a copy of the worksheet in the same directory as the worksheet file. The filename is the worksheet's filename with _MAS appended to it. When the worksheet is manually saved, the _MAS file is deleted. When you open a _MAS worksheet that has been automatically saved, the worksheet is read-only. Therefore, you must use Save As to save the _MAS worksheet as a Maple worksheet. AutoSave does not save the worksheet under the following conditions. 1. The worksheet does not have a filename associated with it, i.e., the worksheet has not been initially saved manually with a filename. 2. The worksheet has not been changed. AutoSave will save all open worksheets within the Maple window, provided each worksheet has a filename associated to it. OPENING A SAVED MAPLE DOCUMENT To open (retrieve) a saved document, either
Go to the File menu bar, then click on Open..., or Click on the button in the toolbar. A dialog box appears (similar to the following). The file name(s) of the saved Maple worksheet(s) should be listed. If not, select the drive/folder in which the file(s) are located (Next to Look in:). Click on the name of the file you want to use. The name will appear in the white box next to File name. Click the Open button to open the worksheet. All Maple worksheets are listed, regardless of the interface that was used to save them. You should re-execute the commands in the worksheet after you retrieve it to refresh the worksheet and put the results back into memory. This is done by selecting Edit Execute Worksheet from the menus, or by clicking the button if it is visible. Multiple documents can be open in the Maple window. Each document has its own tab (by default). Switch to another document by clicking its tab at the top of the worksheet area. EXPORTING MAPLE DOCUMENTS TO OTHER FORMATS Maple documents can be exported to other formats, e.g., HTML, PDF, Latex, allowing you to access your work outside of Maple. Open the document you wish to export, then from the File menu, select Export As. The Export As dialog opens.
Choose a location in which to export the document (next to Save in:), enter a file name, and select a format in the Files of type: dropdown list. Click on the Save button. You may need to provide additional information depending on the format chosen. CREATING A NEW MAPLE DOCUMENT To create a new document in Document or Worksheet mode, either: Open the File menu (click on File in the menu bar), then click on New, then either Worksheet Mode or Document Mode, OR Click on the button. Depending on which is the default document, either a new Document mode document or a new Worksheet mode document will be created. Note that you can have multiple documents open at one time.
