Operating System MS Windows XP (any) Service Pack 2 MS Windows Vista (any) Service Packs Service Pack 1 recommended Please note that OLI no longer supports Windows 2000. If you are still using Windows 2000, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to either Windows XP (Home or Professional) or Windows Vista. Also, if possible, it is advisable to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7.0. This has the side-benefit of making sure that your Windows system has the latest support DLLs for Microsoft s COM subsystem. 2 Installation There are two security options available from OLI: 1) workstation security using a Hardlock key or, 2) network security using the OLI Network License Server. If you have received an OLI Hardlock key then follow the instructions in Section 2.1 and then proceed to Section 2.3 to install the software. If your organization uses network security then start at Section 2.2 and then proceed to Section 2.3. 2.1 OLI Hardlock Key (Workstation Security) OLI Systems, Inc. If you downloaded the installation package from the OLI Systems web site, you will need to contact OLI (973-539-4996) to obtain a Hardlock key and associated serial number. To install the USB Hardlock key, simply attach it to any available USB port. Note: OLI no longer ships parallel Hardlock keys. If you do have a parallel Hardlock key, you can install it by attaching it to your computer s parallel port. If you have a printer connected to the parallel port, then unplug your printer, connect the key and then reconnect your printer to the Hardlock key. The Hardlock key will not interfere with your printer. Also, if you have a parallel port security key for another software product, please make sure that the OLI Hardlock key is connected directly to the parallel port and is first in the chain of keys. 2.2 OLI Network License Server If your organization uses OLI Network License Server then you will need an application client serial number and the IP address/hostname of the server running the network license service. Your site administrator should be able to provide you with the information you need. 2.3 Software Setup The setup uses a Windows Installer wizard to lead you through a typical Windows installation process. The installation is available in two formats: A windows installer package named OLI [Product Name] [Version], for example - OLI Analyzer 3.0, available for download from the OLI Systems web site. A product distribution CD available from OLI Systems. Regardless of the installation medium, you would need to locate the Windows Installer package and double-click on it to start the installation process. Please note that the setup process needs Administrator privileges to be able to perform software installation. OLI Systems, Inc. A Guide to Installing OLI Software Page 3
The installation starts with the following dialog: Click Next to review the license agreement: OLI Systems, Inc. A Guide to Installing OLI Software Page 4
If you agree with the terms of the license agreement, select the I accept the terms radio button and click Next to proceed to the Customer Information dialog: You will need to complete all of the fields on this dialog. Enter the serial number that you received from OLI Systems or your network license administrator. If you enter a network license client serial number, you will be prompted with the Network License Server configuration dialog: OLI Systems, Inc. A Guide to Installing OLI Software Page 5
The default license server configuration option is Automatic. If you know the license server IP address/host Name, you can enter it by selecting the Manual checkbox. You can specify the Port number if the license server is running on a custom port. You can enter a Binding String instead, if one is provided by the network license administrator. If you do not have information about your license server simply click on the Next button, you will be able to configure the settings after Analyzer Studio is installed. On clicking Next, the Choose Setup Type dialog will be displayed. You will be able to choose between a Typical or Custom installation. A typical install will install all licensed features and create an application shortcut on the Desktop. If you would like to select the features that are installed, you can select the Custom setup option. A custom setup will also allow you to change certain installation directories and control the creation of the Desktop shortcut. Click on the desired setup type to continue. If you chose the Typical setup option, you will see the Ready to Install dialog where you can proceed with the installation process by clicking the Install button. In case you chose the Custom setup, you will be prompted with the feature selection dialog where you can select the features that are installed. OLI Systems, Inc. While the drivers are being installed, the Windows Operating System might display some notifications regarding installation of hardware drivers. Windows may prompt for authorization to install the Hardlock OLI Systems, Inc. A Guide to Installing OLI Software Page 8
drivers. Installation of the Hardlock drivers is required for the product to work if workstation security (standalone mode) is being used. After all application components are installed, you will see the following dialog: Simply click Finish to exit the installation. 2.4 Verify Installation To verify the software installation click on the Start button and navigate to the OLI Systems program group in the program menu. You should see a folder named [Product Name] such as Analyzer 3.0 with shortcut icons (depending on the options that you have licensed), such as: Analyzer Studio 3.0 Analyzer Studio 3.0 Help Data Locator 3.0 You will also see the application shortcut on your Windows desktop if you chose to install desktop shortcuts during setup. 2.5 Application Security Settings for Network License Server If you are using network security and the OLI Network License Server is installed and running, you need to provide correct network information about the license server. The setup wizard would have already prompted you for that information when you installed the program. If for some reason you were unable to provide the network information or if you would like to change your settings, you can do so using the Security Settings and Test utility. The Security Settings and Test utility makes it easy to test and update security related settings. You can launch the security settings utility by selecting About [Product Name], where [Product Name] may be Analyzer, ESP, etc., from the Help menu while the application is running. Please note that the security settings utility is automatically launched if the serial number/license server settings are invalid or if the license service is not running. As an alternative, you can launch the security settings utility by clicking on the Windows Start button and navigating to: Programs\OLI Systems\[Product Name]\Security Click on the Security Settings and Test item to launch the utility: OLI Systems, Inc.
