Software Announcement September 13, 1999 Manage Your Software Budget with IBM Software Subscription for AIX Overview Software Subscription for AIX enables a single-site or worldwide enterprise customer to maintain software version and release currency. The offering, which includes base license, users, and additional license upgrades, is a one-year term agreement that helps you better manage your software migration strategy at a known cost. You are billed annually with automatic renewal unless IBM is notified in writing. With this subscription you can easily acquire and manage selected AIX software upgrades and better manage your software budget. Software Subscription for AIX replaces the IBM Software Upgrade Protection Plan for AIX and UNIX Operating System Based Software (5692-ADV) for new and expired contracts. Highlights Include Agreement with no signature required No minimum contract value One-year contract Automatic notification of program upgrades Automatic renewal and invoicing Ability to order multiple media supply types with quantities on the same order Guidelines for IBM development laboratories that release products under this program Clarification of area and customer responsibilities Key Prerequisites Original licensed program eligible for upgrade protection Planned Availability Date September 17, 1999 At a Glance The Software Subscription for AIX includes: Either one agreement for the entire enterprise under one customer number or an agreement at the machine level Predictable budgeting for upgrade maintenance Annual billing with automatic renewal For ordering, contact: Your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL Reference: RE001 EXTRA! EXTRA!... Subscribe to IBM isource, your electronic source for customized IBM information! Description Software Subscription for AIX is a one-year contract that enables you to maintain software product version and release currency for selected AIX- and UNIX-based software products at a predetermined cost. You can receive all software product version and release upgrades announced during the contract period. You can also include in the plan contract coverage any number of currently installed software product licenses covered by the offering. Software Upgrade: An upgrade is either a new version (2.x.x to 3.x.x) or a new release (x.1.x to x.2.x) of an IBM program announced as eligible for which you enrolled under Software Subscription for AIX. Software Subscription for AIX entitles you to future upgrades from only the latest announced version or release of an available eligible product. Upgrades do not include programs sold separately from the enrolled program, but enhance the performance of that program, or are considered add-ons or utilities. Programs that perform the same functions as the enrolled program but are installed on a non-aix platform are not considered upgrades. Note: Software maintenance releases x.x.1 to x.x.2 (modification level changes, updates, or refreshes) are released under 5692-SSO but only when a supply feature has been announced. Supply features are only announced when there is a version/release change. Example: Product A is offered under 5692-SSO, and three months later PTFs are incorporated into the program package. This is considered an update that would not be obtained under 5692-SSO. Using the same example above, three months after the PTFs were incorporated into the program package, IBM announces a new version of product A. At that time, a supply feature is announced for product A under 5692-SSO. This allows customers who purchased 5692-SSO for product A to order the upgrade through 5692-SSO. IBM may announce a product that can be substituted for an enrolled product. This product is neither a new version, a new release, nor a maintenance release of that enrolled product. In most cases, this product has a different architecture, more function, and a higher license charge than the enrolled product. IBM may provide those customers enrolled in the Software Subscription for AIX access to this product at a discounted rate. The terms of this transaction will be included in the new product announcement. Eligibility of Upgrades: Only unannounced software product upgrades are eligible for coverage under Software Subscription for AIX. If the upgrade is announced before the effective contract date, you are not entitled to enroll the software upgrade. If the upgrade for an enrolled software product is announced during the contract period, you are entitled to the upgrade even if the product does not become generally available until after the end of the contract. Contract Duration: The Software Subscription for AIX contract is initially for one year. During that time, the contract cannot be canceled. After one year, the contract can be canceled with 30 days written notice to IBM. When you cancel the contract, the 5692-SSO record in the ordering system is marked inactive. Feature #2222 is added to your customer record and billing is discontinued. Payment Options: You pay for the plan: At initial enrollment of the contract period Annually thereafter Software Subscription Prices: The Software Subscription for AIX price is based on the published price of the software program at the time of the contract preparation. Minimum Contract Value: None Notification of Upgrade Availability and Ordering: You can register to be notified by e-mail when products are upgraded. To register, visit: http://www.rs6000.ibm.com/support Choose TechSupport Online, then Subscriptions. When you are ready to take receipt of the upgrade, you can fill out an online shipment request form for your upgrade at: http://www6.software.ibm.com/swdelivery/ You can also call Software Delivery and Fulfillment (SDF) at 800-879-2755. Upgrade Deliverables: Entitlement includes: Media supply based on the number of licenses purchased Softcopy publications Hardcopy entitled publications The total number of combined media supply features can be no greater than the quantity associated with the billing feature for which you are eligible. Adding New Licenses to an Existing Software Subscription for AIX Contract: You can add new software licenses to an existing contract; however, the full price is charged. No proration is allowed. Adding Previously Installed Licenses to an Existing Contract: You can add installed product licenses to a contract that were not initially covered by an existing contract. These licenses are charged at the full contract price as if they were enrolled initially in the contract.the protection expires when the originally dated contract is not renewed. Year 2000 This product does not have date dependencies and is Year 2000 ready. Euro Currency This program is not impacted by euro currency.
