CHAPTER 5 Word More Skills 11 Draw Tables and Convert Tables to Text Tables can be drawn or inserted into documents. As tables are created and modified, the size of the columns may need to be adjusted to accommodate the new data. Word provides tools that can adjust cells so that the data is distributed evenly across rows and columns, split cells, align cell data, and change the overall table layout. Word can also convert table data to text data formatted with tabs. To complete this document, you will need the following file: 05_Tickets You will save your document as: Lastname_Firstname_w05_Tickets 1. Start Word and open the student data file w05_tickets. Save the file in your Word Chapter 5 folder with the name Lastname_Firstname_w05_Tickets Add the file name to the footer. If necessary, display the formatting marks. Display the ruler. 2. Press C + e to move to the end of the document. 3. On the Insert tab, in the Tables group, click the Table button and then click Draw Table. 4. Using the rulers as a visual guide, drag to draw a table that is approximately 6 inches wide by 1.5 inches tall. The table will start at 0" on the horizontal ruler and extend to 6". The table will start at 3" on the vertical ruler and extend to 4.5". 5. At approximately 3.5" on the vertical ruler, click and drag inside the table to the right to draw a horizontal line in the table. Repeat the previous technique to draw a horizontal line at 4" on the vertical ruler inside the table. 6. At approximately 2" on the horizontal ruler, click and drag down inside the table to draw a vertical line in the table. Repeat the previous technique to draw a vertical line at 4" on the horizontal ruler inside the table. On the Layout tab, in the Alignment group, click the Align Top Center button. 11. With the second table selected, in the Data group, click the Convert to Text button. 12. In the displayed Convert Table to Text dialog box, under Separate text with verify that the Tabs option button is selected, and then click OK. 13. With the converted text still selected, on the horizontal ruler, drag the first tab marker to the 2.5 inch mark and the second tab marker to the 5.0 inch mark. Compare your screen with Figure 3. On the Layout tab, in the Cell Size group, click the Distribute Rows button, and then click the Distribute Columns button. Distribute rows adjusts the row height so that all rows have the same height. Distribute columns adjusts the column width so that all columns have the same width. 15. Drag to select the last row of the first table. On the Layout tab, in the Merge group, click the Split Cells button. 16. In the Split Cells dialog box, in the Number of columns box, replace 4 with 6 and then click OK. Compare your screen with Figure 4. Select the formula field with the value $104.00 and then drag to move the field into the last cell of the table. 18. Drag to select the first column of the first table. On the Layout tab, in Alignment group, click the Align Top Center button. 19. Select the entire first table. In the Merge group, click the Split Table button. When the Split Table button is clicked, a blank paragraph is inserted above the table. 20. 21. For the title just inserted, apply Bold and then Center the paragraph. Change the Font Size to 14.
